  • I got hurt at the end of the summer with whats called a Lisfranc Injury which required 2 surgeries and 6 months of healing. At my first appointment I asked if it was reasonable to go snowboarding in December. Everything would have to go perfect and as luck would have it did ! It was difficult to get my foot into the boot but after some struggle and a larger boot, success. I was glad that after the first day my foot felt better than ever from all the movement.
Sugar Mountain Ski Resort, situated in Banner Elk, North Carolina, has a storied history that spans several decades. Established by Sidney J. Spencer, a Florida real estate developer, the resort opened its doors on December 20, 1969, with a vision to create a winter sports destination.
In its early years, Sugar Mountain had limited facilities, featuring a single chairlift and a handful of ski slopes. However, as its popularity grew, the resort underwent expansions and upgrades. Additional ski lifts were installed, and more slopes were developed to cater to the increasing number of visitors. Over time, Sugar Mountain diversified its offerings, introducing activities like snowboarding, tubing, and ice skating.
The resort's terrain is known for its diversity, accommodating skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels. Beyond winter sports, Sugar Mountain expanded its attractions to include year-round activities such as golf and scenic chairlift rides during the summer months.
Ownership changes occurred in the early 1980s, but the commitment to providing a quality winter sports experience persisted. The resort continually invested in modernizing its infrastructure, including chairlifts, snowmaking capabilities, and grooming equipment, enhancing the overall guest experience.
In the 1990s and beyond, Sugar Mountain evolved to meet the demands of a changing market. The resort's offerings expanded beyond the winter season, making it a year-round destination. It actively engages with the local community in Banner Elk, participating in events and initiatives that contribute to the collaborative spirit between the resort and residents.
Today, Sugar Mountain Ski Resort remains a premier winter destination in the southeastern United States, blending tradition with modern amenities. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, it continues to attract outdoor enthusiasts seeking a memorable mountain experience.

Just went there today! Such a good ski resort. Me and some family members come together and ski there once a year. This was my 3rd year skiing there. Had so much fun!

Best place to learn for boarding/ski imo. For about $50/day in 2016, you can do both for the same price😅

It’s hard to say it really just depends on if a storm comes through. Somehow we always seem to have good luck. Hopefully you will too.
