The Arsenal Bird - An analysis of our new enemy in Ace Combat 7

- The Arsenal Bird, also known as “FAS” by the developers, is giant drone carrier - the first of its type in Strangereal, a planet ruled by enormous aircraft. In this video I analyse one of the most iconic enemies that we will fight against in the upcoming Ace Combat title using official information, a bit of theory and, like always, diving into the details of previous games.

imagine a team PvP mode with each team has its own arsenal bird and has to destroy it other.
Maybe like a MOBA, with the drones taking the place of the cannon-fodder enemies each homebase normally sends out?
That would be cool, but we probably will never see that in Ace combat
@@kurofox1247 Infinity had some defend and attack objective based game modes. I wouldn't say it's completely out of the question. It's really just a matter of how much support Bandai sends AC7's way
Oh boy... Here comes the EML spammers...
Oh man, maybe I'm a year late, but imagine having Superweapon Showdowns. With the team leader able to pick the Superweapon of choice! Arkbird is meant for Long Range Tactical Strikes, the Arsenal Bird for Total Area Denial, Agaion and the Support Fleet to rival the Arsenal Bird!
Nagase was right when she said President Harling would build another Arkbird.

That moment when it is reviled that Belka started a NOTHER war between super powers by hijacking flying super weapons. #calling it now

That would be good... But it'll get too predictable.
Dear god, that would be 3 wars started by Belka and 4 wars in Osea! (Circum-Pacific, Aurelian, Belkan, and the new one in AC7)

Imagine a mission with all 4 Arsenal Birds. You've managed to get 2 under your command, and your mission is to bring down the other 2, which are under control by the enemy...
4 Arsenal Birds, 320 UAVs, you, your wingmen and the enemy wings, in one of the most insanely epic battles in AC history...and that's only the halfway point of the game, with an even bigger threat being revealed not too long after (as it usually is).
I want to believe this is actually a possibility.
you could set two of them in the foreground 2 in the background off screen fighting. much less lag.
Well this could be possible considering AC6's Weapons of mass destruction mission and the Improved console platform
I think it will be still more epic if it is Humans vs UAVs and Arsenal Bird. Like 3-4 Nations + Independent mercenaries bonding together to remove this Robot threat once and for all
I am expecting Tom Cruise to face off against the Arsenal Bird in upcoming Top Gun 2
....120 missles wont be enough.....
.....AWACS I request a emergency R&R landing!
The 1945 era Japanese would be proud.
Seriously, 80 kamikaze drones....
only if they had resource
Not really kamikaze, the MQ-101s intercept missiles targeting the Arsenal Bird or space elevator by ramming the missiles mid-flight.
Kamikaze would be ramming the attacking aircraft, not its missile.
Sad to see that there are only 2 ARsenal birds...and we have to destroy both of them
It would've been much more fun if we got a chance to have an ally arsenal bird similar to how the Arkbird once helped us out.
There's a mod making the ADF-11F Raven your own Arsenal Bird.
@@franzicoywhat's the mod called
Nice analysis and it's roots in real-life! I do have some stuff to say though:
1. The Tu-95 Bear had a Top Speed of 925km/h and Cruise Speed of 710km/h, while the Tu-114 had a Top Speed of 870km/h--
which when you compare them to the Arsenal Bird, it's pretty fast. This is sort of odd since the Arsenal Bird clearly has bigger
and more engines, and unmanned. If ACES actually do some relations with the them, the Arsenal Bird might be faster and
more agile than we've seen. Not to mention its hidden armaments too.
2. The X-47B Project was actually cancelled by the US Navy (it's not ongoing anymore). Some of the gripes regarding it was that
it was "too stealthy" and "expensive" for its intended use, though the Navy kept it on a "ready state" instead of an actual
museum piece when they send it to the National Naval Aviation Museum. This is normal, considering its astounding
achievements in completing "The first unmanned aerial refueling" and "The first unmanned carrier landing" in under a year--
so much so that the team behind the X-47B got an award themselves.
The X-47B only hold two weapons though, so I don't think it will be a long-lasting Itano Circus unless ACES decided to go for
the "AC Protagonist" levels of missiles.
3. The "UAV" that launched from the Arkbird was actually the X-47A Pegasus, which is still in the same family as the X-47B.
Unlike most variations though, the X-47B was a design upgrade to the X-47A concept, which made the Pegasus itself
obsolete.
ok this is a very late reply but how is "too stealthy" a bad thing?
I find it interesting that in the dialogue that appears around 7:18 you can see that they talk about "Arsenal BirdS". In plural. I guess we´ll have to fight more than one, or maybe Erusea steals and controls only one of them, idk.
Plus, I´d also like to say that I don´t think the Arsenal Birds will be the main boss of the game, most likely the typical "flying fortress" we see in all AC games. We still have Mihaly and that weird white UAV that looks like a Falken to take the "ultra badass over the top boss" role.
There’s like 8 bosses lol

It has a plot armor in mission 3...
Next time we meet them, we tear their blades and wings into pieces 🙃
One of my biggest hopes is seeing a space mission.
same to be honest. ace combat 3 is the only game so far with a space mission
ac3 takes place in 2040
ac7 takes place 20 years eariler
i dont think it will be possible .....but who knows
Caleb Tynes but ac7 must have hypersonic planes to travel fast in space or else it will stall
or be carried by a rocket then released once in space
I think it would be cool if we got an alien enemy in Ace Combat 8.
I know I'm jumping the gun talking about an eighth Ace Combat, but if Ace Combat 7 is successful we're bound to get an AC8.
Talk about the Aigaion in ace combat 6.

If the series comes to a close, I want the final boss to be Erusea losing their minds, and reconstructing every superweapon in the series, and all of them are active at once. Stonehenge, Megalith, both Arsenal Birds, etc.
Well at least we now know that that circle is not a laser system, instead
Slight Spoiler
It's a Microwave forcefield that destroys all missiles and planes that enters it. Also the fact that these Arsenal Birds are in fact powered directly through a wireless power transmission from the Space Elevator

Man, I love all of your analysis videos. Excellent choice of music too. Keep it up!
It seems that the Arsenal Bird is also influenced by the NASA 'Helios' solar powered UAV, as evidenced by the placement of the multiple engines, and the dihedral curve of the wings.
Hmmm, I wonder if that is the inspiration for the name of the Arsenal Bird's long-range burst missile weapon.
Please do more of this! I'd love to see all the tech, bosses and planes of ace combat.
The fact they showed this pretty early tells me two things.
1. Similar to AC6 and Aigaion where they were showed early but we'll only be able to destroy them later on
2. The Arsenal Bird is more like a low-mid level boss. AC7 might surprise us by having an even bigger super weaopn near the end
I really do hope it's the second one

It was really cool to hear the Ark Bird soundtrack in the background. One of my favorite soundtracks.
The Arsenal Bird came out to Mission 3. Do not you think it is too early? I wonder if there are any aims
Galm2 pixy yes, but you don't destroy it, you have to retreat and you will probably destroy it later
It's a trope of the series to destroy the superweapon seen near the start at around the midgame (Stonehenge, Excalibur, Gleipnir, Arkbird). But there is always a bigger, much more dangerous (secret) superweapon/boss to be battled at the end (Megalith, Pixy, Fenrir, SOLG).
I have to agree, I was surprised by it. The only time we faced a difficult enemy in mission 3 was in Ace Combat ZERO, when we face the first enemy ace squadron. Interesting to see Project Aces with another take on the story/campaign design.
Pretty sure... the next time you fight the Arsenal Bird, you will fight two of them (just kidding)......
Although I wonder if you will have a branching path depending on whether you shot down the AB in Mission 3...
Orgoi and Spiridus flashbacks...
great job as always !
I already noticed the Arkbird reference in the design itself when I first saw the game trailer. I guess this is a cheaper alternative to Osea rebuilding another another Arkbird that uses expensive combined cycle engine technology but has high altitude capability to closely match the Arkbird's low earth orbit altitude. I wonder if we'll see something like Osea using the Arsenal bird the same way they did in AC5 against the Scinfaxi.
Great video man! 👍🏻👍🏻
Am I the only one who misses the days when Ace Combat superweapons/bosses didn't need to be surrounded by a fuck-ton of UAVs in order to be difficult?
well... one of the THEMES of the game is the focus of UAVs in modern war so....
True. I was just hoping that it wasn't part of a trend that started with Ace Combat 6, then carried on to Infinity (ahem, Butterfly Master).
Actually, technically the only US aerial warships that doesn't have drones are the Sky Fortress, Aigaion, Spiridus, and Gleipnir.
whats wrong with uav?
you know what would be screwed up, if an the Arsenal Bird had Butterfly Master AI
But imagine it also being friendly to you. For the first time in series, you have superweapon as your ally. Imagine battle between two Arsenal Birds. This would be awesome.
@@caav56 well you got the one Mobius One wrecked as your superweapon

Ace Combat fan got this right so long ago (5 years ago from when I’m watching)
Disclaimer, he didn’t get everything right, but he go a lot correct
thanks for the analysis dude
Good job for being right on the laser 👍🏾
Pity that we never saw 4 of these. And as people and Project Aces said, I would have loved to have seen the four of them clash, two as allies and the other two as foes.
Of course, this is not the only time a superweapon became an ally. Remember an early mission in Ace Combat 5? The Arkbird's laser damaged a Yuke Submarine.
New to the channel i must say very good job keep it up
the arsenal bird mk2 at the last mission that isnt destroyed by stonehenge uses the arkbird module to fire a powerful laser that can one shot the f22a
I think that you can go down different paths in the story and depending on who you side with, you will have the Arsenal Bird either as an ally or enemy.
The interesting thing about the arsenal bird, is that I can see it being a real thing in a couple of decades minus the lazers. Drone airforces will most likely be a thing in the future and a form of air carrier for them could be plausible.
Good analysis
Game came out and i was thinking this was a Post release.
i know it will never happen but i want to say it too: When history witness a great change....
The Vogel drones are based on the X47A drone.
MQ101 are based on the X47B.
Interesting parallels with real and Stangereal.
having 4 arsenal birds makes sense, if they are all flying around and guarding the space elevator. if they are unmanned, they could pretty much fly forever without having to refuel because you could put a nuclear power plant in it to power the propellers
The advertisement says that the Arsenal Bird uses microwaves to power all its systems.
an arsenal bird would be unbelievably LOUD. those props would be so large, they would each probably be louder than the loudest plane individually....
yea, each one would be as loud as a formation of 50 TU-95 bombers
I'm still sitting here wondering how the bird rearms itself :/
Maybe some supply ships delivers ammo to the arsenal bird after the battle
Belkan witchcraft
In the demo, one of the pilots refers to the Arsenal Bird as 'Big Baby Huey'. I really hope this is a Silent Running reference and the other two are called Dewey and Louie
1:30
Well actually it bears a lot of resemblance to the Pathfinder. An unmanned nasa aircraft test aircraft that used solar power.
AHHH I love so much the song of White bird part II
What if at the space elevator you have to fight 2 or 3 of them? (there was a similar case in Joint assault where you down 1 orgoi and then you have to fight the other 2.)
i think the circular module on the top isnt a weapon itself, but perhaps the same sort radar dish as on an the E-3 Sentry AWACS, seeing as it likely feeds the parasite drones target information using the same method, and having the early warning module built in, would make the arsenal bird far more self sufficient, running for long patrols with little need of checkups
It is an em shield
I'm more fascinated about how much one of these things must cost. The shell and basic structure was probably pretty pricy, add the 80 UAVs, each with their own expenses, the AA emplacements, lasers, literal shield generator, and this thing must have costed an arm and a leg.
Arsenal Bird reminds me of Lockheed CL-1201.
Except that the parasite fighters are controlled by actual pilots.
Project Aces loves to slide a few surprises under the door every now and then. :)
2:10 the lower picture is a YB-49, the natural evolution of the XB/YB-35. This is a common mistake though so no hard feelings! :)

I think the Arsenal Bird started the war. The flight path takes it over Erusean territory. It could've some how attacked Erusea and "Remorsefully, Injured countless innocent civilians"
So how did they launch the thing? By land? By air? By sea? Did they build it mid-flight?
I like how that tweet came out and we were never even close to fighting along side an arsenal bird
Ooh, Innocent Aces was a GREAT game...
There is a caption in english and indonesian, great!
Do you think it could carry non-conventionnal weaponry, like, i don't know, railguns, laser, electrolaser, the fenrir micro-wave system or some kind of?
It would've been sweet if I could fight along side Mihaly and an arsenal bird but oh well.
Yeah id like to see something similar in the next ac game(two playable characters one on each side)
So this guy has pinned HIS stonehane against HIS Arsenal Bird... And I also think they are hiding another two arsenal birds...
well the main body and control surfaces are as close to the arkbird as you can get so probably an athmospheric version after ac5
qich would mean ac zero, ac2, ac4, ac5 (as the x02 is seen in a hangar and they still makin ´em), ac6 or 7
8:23 Aaaaaand it’s the largest super weapon in the ace combat universe
There are 2 and they are hugeeeee
The xb-o seems to be the biggest since it was made by the belkans in their prime
I kind of wish they went ahead and made Arsenal Birds more like this and you got to fight with an arsenal bird on your side

Well the contra rotating propellers aren't the cause of the noise. The reason is because the blades spin at supersonic speeds. Causing countless sonic booms every second as the supersonic air they push comes into contact with the subsonic airplane. The reason they aren't seen often is due to their design complexity. That makes them both expensive to make and hard to maintain. They do have the advantage of high power for relatively low drag and they work well at higher altitude than traditional single propellers would.
However for relatively high speed planes that fly at high altitude generally jet engines are preferable. They are both cheaper to make and since they have fewer moving parts they require a lot less maintenance.
My bet is on three superweapons, kinda like 5. Arsenal birds are just like the subs but later on we will see something like arkbird and eventually solg.
Wow 4 ?!!? Nice deduction acecombat fan, you truly blew my mind! One question I do have in my mind is why is the location of the space elevator very close to Erusia? Which country made this elevator unless there was a joint operation of two or more countries to build it which would make sense but why in that particular location? Osea and other countries already know the history of Erusia and how they have damaged other country like Usea so wouldn't be stupid to build it right next to it? I am not a hardcore fan like you or every other fan so apologies if Im missing other information which I didn't know.
One Arsenal bird is enough for me, but four? I say f*** that! One is bad enough as it is with those s*** ton of uavs!
are there any timeline videos of each game and how they fit into the wprld of ace combat (not the history of the game "physical" (eg release etc ) but actual story history
Well we know that ace zero is the first canonical game
Hello
What music was used in the first quarter of the video?
daym this thing is huge
It would be more effective to put the drones on top since the top of the wing needs slower airflow to create lift, thus taking less power to fly and less wing space to lift more mass.
Yea but you would need power to force out the drones upwards
@@charlesuzozie5747 dock them on rails, pull up air brakes and watch it slide backwards off the carrier.
What if...the MQ-101s are just slightly modified Vogels? They both have a similar deployment method, similar shape, and similar function. I wonder if the MQ-101 is a direct descendant of the Vogel...

hey ace combat fan I have a theory about arsenal bird:
1.About who control the arsenal bird.Maybe nobody control it like it was programed to attack any nearby aircraft?
2.The heavy command cruiser are more than1 in fact the member of Gault squadron escaped to Estovakia to build the second heavy command cruiser:Aigaion.
3.althought we know that the definition of cruiser was a ship that operating alone but we can see such Aigaion must be accompanied by ut's fleet.Maybe the arsenal bird was the true heavy command cruiser?
that's all, just a theory thought I hope you read it.
the arsenal bird looks like NASA's helios prototype
Literally the biggest bird
7:54 that would have been so cool if we fought with the arsenal birds
Ace combat is like a premonition to current and future real life wars. I mean, those words, "Yet, what is a nation?" in one of these game scenes, it made me think of Syria and/or the other countries of the refugees. When I watched this, that's when I knew that the Arsenal Bird drones are inspired from the experimental drones built in real life. It would be real chaos if these things are secretly made and are already combat-ready.
With X-45-like UCAVs, this is gonna be a challenge. Especially when there's 80 of em
But even that won't be a challenge if there is NO actual simulation of G-forces and atmospheric pressure and altitude limits in the game. That's my biggest concern. One of the biggest worries of combating UCAVs is the fact there is no need for life support systems and the airframe can then be designed to be as unstable as possible while heavily reinforcing the G-force tolerance. And with that the ability to develop engines and propulsion systems for higher overall speeds. Not to mention there will be concerns about power usage for the entire suites of systems and components, in addition to the computational system required for maintaining the exceedingly complex self-learning A.I that's bound to be installed in it.
Overall what I'm saying is that, I can understand if Project Aces can't even create that kind of self-learning A.I for a game since the computational requirements are immense and the paradigm shift in coding for A.I needs to change, but at the very least they MUST implement G-force simulation or all this talk of "self-learning A.I in UCAVs is the future" is going to be completely pointless and hollow if people don't know how physically futile it is to combat those things without pushing your organic body to its near-fatal limits. In that sense, even though it's just a story within a book that then got animated, Yukikaze is easily the best depiction of this very unnerving struggle. So yeah, while all the fans are dying for crazy boss battles, I just hope that the story is good enough and that they include adequate simulations for G-forces, atmospheric pressure and layers. I mean, they're already doing a good job with the clouds so that's something. Indeed, who cares about 5000 missiles or having to monitor and manage your interface, all we want is to thoroughly experience how flight is really like in combat situations even if it's just a simulation
I would actually argue that the majority of the fanbase would not want to experience what combat flight is really like... flying two hours in a straight line, then being pushed into crazy combat that is just like you said, basically impossible, then flying two hours back if you survived... plus, if all the physics such as G forces and G-LOC, atmospheric pressure, turbulence, airframe damage, the combat itself becomes incredibly hard, even doing basic manuevers is hard. Ace Combat has always been an Arcade flight sim, leaning more towards arcade than sim.
While there is totally something to be said for the satisfaction that learning difficult tasks, or getting close to something most of us only dream of, there's a reason games like DCS are very niche, and Ace Combat is much more accessible and popular- a lot of us only want to feel like unstoppable death machines single handedly turning around a war... or atleast I do, lol.
I would totally play a simulator mode though. The more Ace Combat, the better.
What nah man, I never mentioned the whole simulation of everything related to flight procedures and all (God those would be major drags), I meant the simulation of the key basics which like I've said were the G-forces, atmospheric pressure and layers, also increasing the combat-ceiling to real-world limits. Don't need exact emulation of these factors, more like a basic simulation that focuses more on the 'handling' and 'maneuvering' aspects of flight. I mean, they got it right in AC6 with the G-force, and now they're doing the same with simulating clouds. And when it came down to max speeds, handling and maneuvering (also stall), AC3 did it really well according to what fits a more arcade experience- call it 'semi-realistic' simulation if you'd like.
Heck, they even managed to do a basic simulation of space flight in AC3, so you see they've actually done all these things well, they just need to 're-introduce' them so to speak. Part of the glory this time around is in winning against an aircraft that doesn't come designed with 'organic-friendly' features. As for the A.I, well I guess we'll just settle with the new version of Project Aces' A.I system at Ace difficulty for now, if people really want a tough fight.
Also now that even turbulence has been simulated to a basic degree, I guess it's the perfect moment to turn on Vibration again lol
If you want G-force management and hyper-realism, play War Thunder.
Although I'm not opposed to a simulator mode in Ace Combat.
Woah shit Jeff be zis doing sm crazy shit
It would be cool If they show them taking off
Man, i cant wait for ace combat 7 and silent Hill P. T.!
