The boards are Kill Team size, so 30X22. So for Combat Patrol/ Incursion you need two boards, Strike Force is 4 boards, Onslaught is 6 boards. The "pack" of terrain is enough to fill out 1 board. So command ($165) gives you 1 board and 1 pack of terrain, and the Command Edition battlefield expansion ($90) is 1 board and 1 pack of terrain. The Vertigus box ($150) is 2 boards, 2 packs (but fane replaces second thermo-exchanger). SO basically, the Vertigus box is a "good value" in GW-World, but if you got all four you'd spend $400ish to get a field to play Strike Force 2000 point games on. Either way, Command Edition isn't enough for a "real" game, though maybe you could get 2 Command editions...
Hopefully this sticks around for a while, looks like I have to cut off any unnecessary spending for the forseeable future. with luck I can keep my patreon and humble going, since they're not BIG expenditures.
For me the price of GW's scenery is mostly too high to justify the purchase. Considering the amount of scenery you would need in a game these days, one of those boxes just is not going to cut it. For a good filled table you would need at least 2 or 3 of those boxes, bringing you up to 450$. Although they do offer some modularity, there are far better modular systems out there that offer more. Although I have to add that they too ask a steep price more often than not. One of the other problems I have with their newest terrain is that it is too detailed imo. Allow me to explain: For any beginners, who would likely only know they can get terrain from GW, it's going to be daunting to paint something with so much detail. often more detailed than most older models. As a veteran, even I look at that terrain as a challenge to paint up. The worst part are the grating floors. They have detail inside that is hard to reach. sure, Eavy metal team makes it look amazing. And you can too if you take your time with it. But do you want to do that ? Most of us barely get our own armies painted. If you have a hard time spending time painting your mini's, how the hell are you going to convince yourself to paint up all that terrain ? I would prefer they simplified the terrain somewhat, give us simpler but more pieces and lower the price somewhat. Make it easier for us to paint it up, and get a table filled with terrain for less.
Just got it as a self birthday gift. To me it was perfect as it included just the right amount AND right size terrains to pretty much finish my terrain while providing a cheap board until I buy a good mat eventually. Made me ''save'' some money compared to my initial plan. Very worthy box compared to the usual overpriced piece of individual terrain imo.
the $50 is for 2 boards. the idea is you buy them after buying the command edition, so you have 3 boards total which is enough to play any sized game from combat patrol to onslaught.
drawking55 except the stupid printed objective markers on the command edition board. I really wish they hadn’t did that. At least it’s just one side of the board. The double pack of boards I assume is like what comes in Vertigus and does not have the numbers printed on it.
@@danielgeorges3048 correct, the boards sold separately do not have the letters on them. I have the Battlefield Expansion set and the board it came with does not have any letters.
I got both the Vertigus and the sanctum this past week as well as the cards (but not the chapter approved book). Sanctum is really nice. I think Vertigus is a good value. I don’t love the cardboard table mats but I find them useful none the less. One big difference in the mats you get in Vertigus vs. the Command edition (have it too) is that there are large objective points (numbers) printed on the gray side of the mat. These are very unsightly when playing a game that is not one of the scenarios from the learn to play section of the Command book. The 2 mats in Vertigus DO NOT have the printed objectives on them. So if you want to make good on that “pay postage and I’ll send you a cardboard” comment, I’d love one more mat with no objective markings on it. My 9 year old son is learning to play in this edition so we are using them on the kitchen table 😁.

If you'd really give out some cardboard for cost of shipping... (It would be my first piece of 9th ed terrain)
Would be nice if they sold this style of terrain but less destroyed looking. I wish they'd do a return of the old city fight terrain set
I just did the command set. Definitely a good value.I’m just getting into warhammer.

I am in the middle of the painting it from the new box set, it’s a killer to paint so much Detail and so large

Is it just me or has GW really gone all in on not letting you build more than 2 stories with the new terrain? Or am I forgetting something?
Nah, it’s very easy to do multiple stories since the pieces are completely customizable.
I would get it. I would get a game mat tho, cuz I don’t trust cardboard boards durability. Should be enough for a board.
Big Gears of War vibes from this kit. I’ve got to get one
Plastic terrain kits: $60
Plastic terrain with one extra piece and 2 sheets of _cardboard_ added: $150

I preordered that set from my local hobby shop for 100 plus tax
Hmm Cardboard you say, I'll take all the card board.
I mean I'll take one!
I will take one also.
Considering the price for that plastic vs nice resin sets from game mat.eu, I’ll take game mat’s terrain
bought this set! cannot grumble about the amount of scenery, but only 2 boards is pretty pathetic... :(
Pass
As an MTG player I've spent more money than this on cardboard.
