My brother and I made Chimes for a all of our siblings and parents (and in-laws) many Christmases ago. This year I want to make another for an amazing friend, I was searching everywhere for your video I'm so glad to have found it again. Thank you so much, I truly love hearing the beautiful chimes we have made under your direction, so do our loved ones. May your notes ring loud and clear forever. Your attention to detail on the subject matter is astounding. The Bob Ross of Wind Chimes. Thank you.
Thanks for making the video. My dad asked for a set of Corinthian wind chimes for Christmas. I stumbled on your site when figuring out what exactly a Corinthian chime was. The fact that I can make it myself is that much better. I need to get started only have a few days left to get it together. Thanks again.
I didn’t make it very far before the first issue. I will be making a 44” copper tube type L 1.5” diameter in the scale of C. I see you have listed the notes for the Corinthian in C @ C,D,E,G,A and C. Using your diy calculator for my given tube size it shows if I started at C3 the tube length would be 45 3/4” do I then go down to D in the same octave meaning D would be a length of 43 3/16”? Would that mean the last C in the scale would be a C4?
Love the detail. For center hung chimes, I use the wire part from paper binder clips (you get two from each clip and they come in different sizes). Tie the support string to it, squeeze together and push into the pipe. push it down and rotate until the ends pop into the two drilled holes. It's nice because if for some reason you need to re-hang the chime, the ends just push back in and you can remove and redo it.
Everything about this video instruction is excellent. Not only the presentation and the detail, but the knowledge that you pass on in your spreadsheets is a model for how to instruct. Thank you.

I would do another test with schedule 40 and schedule 80 galvanized steel, I’m guessing the 80 will sound much deeper and the tone will last longer. I saw another gentleman’s video with Corinthian bells, the bells are 1.75 ID. I was thinking about using 1.75 I.D. schedule 80 galvanize steel to make a wind chime, what do you think, sir? Thanks for the video. You did a great job.
Thank you for the kind words and glad you can make use of this information. Making wind chimes is a great home activity in light of the pandemic. Best of success. Lee
Stumbled on this absolute treasure video tonight. Clearly made by a guy who's been an engineer for many years, thank you so much for this amazing resource. I was wondering what sort of effect powder-coating (or paint) may have on the sound quality, if any. I'd like to invest some time into making a really heavy-duty set that is aesthetically in sync with my yard using different colors. Specifically, on large diameter steel. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you for this video. I’m a wood carver and have a request to make a chime with a carved hummingbird on it. This will be my first wind chime. Lots of good information.
I may have missed attaching the tube to the eye on the top plate. Is it tied with a knot or exactly how do you fasten it up. Thanks for a nice video to help us novices. I am working with some gas cylinders from oxygen bottles from cutting torch applications. I cut off the bottom and put in a striker. Seeing this I could probably tune them by cutting them to length but they do sound nice by just removing the bottom couple inches. Thanks again
Thank you Lee, I have been creating wind chimes for all of my family and some local businesses since my retirement. I have been using your suggestions. I have been using a center hang on each chime with an all thread 1/4 20 but I think I have been doing it all wrong? I believe my design needs to change to your threading process. Any way I do appreciate your great in sight into this fun hobby. Mike Kennedy
excellent...downloaded the calculators which are so very helpful...I cannot find the two support points either side of the chime centres when using the calculator...any advice for this dull knife would be welcome.
Lee , your detailed approach to the explanation was extremely intelligent and thorough ; can't think of anything you could have left out . I'm attempting to repair an old wind chime and need a circular striker . The old wooden ball shaped striker has gotten "Flat " on the strike area and seems dead . Can you help ?
Very informative! Is it possible to engrave these tubes and would that affect the tuning? For example, if I want to engrave a poem on each one, would that affect the sound?
Hello master. I have a question. I go to create my 3 octaves chimes xylophone with 3" diameter chimes from F3 to F6. My questions. What chimes diameter 2" or 3" sound better ? What chimes diameter 2" or 3" sound louder to play in a big orchestra with drumset ? and what diameter sound with more "fundamental note" between 2" or 3" diameter ? Best regards Mr. Lee Hite. I go to read all your awesome website. Thank you very much. Prof. Tito Faraut García from Uruguay. 🙂🎶🌎🎶🙂🎹
Thank you. I learn from you many aspect I want to learn many years. mostly about 22.4%, notes choosing, lacking of fundamental notes. Btw actually there is a fundamental note, but pipe seems is not transfering in well to the air. Probably we could take massive pipe and transfer its oscilations into piece of wood?
Yes indeed, the fundamental is always there but the ears cannot hear it because of insufficient radiating surface. Place your ear about 1 inch from the chime tube and "Surprise!" there it is.
Lee, I really love your work…I think I know how to make the notes play in order instead of random notes…I really want to get that info into your website..Can we talk and maybe you could spend some time perfecting it also..?

I'd like to invest some time into making a really heavy-duty set that is aesthetically in sync with my yard using different colors. Specifically, on large diameter steel. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!
This is a fantastic video. Extremely thorough.
Thank you for this video. I’m a wood carver and have a request to make a chime with a carved hummingbird on it. This will be my first wind chime. Lots of good information.
What a wonderful resource. Thank you.
Thanks for this Lee! I just finished my first, and while I can clean it up some, I love it and had lots of fun! I see a drill press in my future...
Super cool video! You are quite the craftsman. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Lee, very comprehensive wind chime information, thanks for making and sharing, big thumbs up!
You're most welcome. This has been on the bucket list for several years now. Nice to get it done :)
You're welcome
Absolutely love this! Can't wait to get started...
Thanks Mike.
Yes, that threading woks well and it took me a while to come across that idea when we were doing the basic research.
Thank you so much for this information and fascinating how-to. Very inspiring, too.
This is so detailed and very informative. Thank you!!!
Absolutely great and comprehensive! Many thanks
Thank you Lee. Great instruction.... I’m gonna build one!
What a great educational video..such an excellent teacher..thank you.
This is great information. Thank you for making this video.
Very very concise and organized instructions.
Greetings from India.Thank you. Regards.
Great instructions and supporting resources.
This was a super informative video. Thank you.
excellent...downloaded the calculators which are so very helpful...I cannot find the two support points either side of the chime centres when using the calculator...any advice for this dull knife would be welcome.
Wonderful. Distant chimes are to love.
A 3 inch diameter chime would be fantastic....
Thank you for sharing.
Sure, no problem. Tell me a little bit more about the problem. Do you want to create a circular disk or the wooden ball?
Thanks for video and for the site! You did a very good work and share it for free. Very few people are doing this.Thank you again!
Amazing video. Thank you for sharing this information.
Awesome instructions and great detail and presentation! Thanks!
Very informative! Is it possible to engrave these tubes and would that affect the tuning? For example, if I want to engrave a poem on each one, would that affect the sound?
This is what you get when you ask an engineer to make you some windchimes.😂😅 Their brains FASCINATE me.😅😂😅😂🎉🎉🎉❤
Hello master.

3" diameter chimes sounds best and louder
This is one of the best videos on RUclips. You will it a lot and f have d work into this. Thank You very much. 👍👍👍👍
Awesome video! Thank you so much for doing it and for the website too.
