In the Saban era, Bama's first LSU game in Tuscaloosa with "his" recruits. And like the Tennessee and Auburn games, this one was a 4th qtr nailbiter but it was a taste of championship caliber football that would define Alabama football for the next 14 seasons.
I remember at the first of that season I thought LSU would at least win the SEC. Alabama surprised a lot of people that season. They were good, no doubt, but I don't think anyone thought they'd end up winning it all.
This was the only game I missed because I was at a drama class competition at another high school on my senior year but heard the rest of the on the radio on the way back home.
First Alabama game my grandfather took me to. Went to the Mississippi state game the following year. His health went down after that, and he passed a few years later But will always remember this. Mainly because before we showed up his dog Dixie ate an entire roast the wrapped in tinfoil. She pooped silver all weekend 😂
This was after our bye week. Two weeks before this was when Terrance "Mount" Cody blocked two field goals to seal a close 12-10 victory over the TN Vols.
I'm not a Les Miles fan but when he Coach LSU this. rivalry was much more competitive and both teams had a lot of respect for each other..but when Orgeron took ovef.. Alabama has own and dominated this rivalry with plenty of Bama blowouts..and the respect has been lost between teams..
McElroy did win a national championship, what you failed to mention is all the great quarterbacks who didn't win a championship..rethink your choice of words....be happy about having a championship..it helped Saban win 7 national championship
The best thing McElroy did in the offense was hand the bold off to Ingram and Richardson and threw 5 yard passes to Julio and Jones would take it the distance..
@@marktastic86 Yes he did. He had a good start to the season in the first 4 games, then struggled in the middle of the season the next 4 games, then did better the last 4 games. He had a great game against Florida in the SEC championship game, then struggled against Texas in the national championship game.
@@bobbywagner67 I don't know about that. JPW was worse. Freddie Kitchens was bad too. Jalen Hurts wasn't too good either at throwing the ball. Bryce Young didn't look too good Saturday night.
You mean in broad daylight? I think the first time they did it in prime time was 7 years ago, dubbed the "Game of the century" when LSU beat Bama 9-6 in OT. Then the two teams played each other again for the national championship, where Alabama won 21-0.
@1 hr 39 minutes #7LsU got punished because he was plotting with #3LsU to get Julio Jones #8 lol.. they were TRYING to injur him..This was the actual game I was at...it was the 3rd year Saban coached....same game I got booed for being an auburn fan in the alabama student section 😆 🤣(jokes on them...I got on the field standing section right behind LSU....i remember seeing him run from the other side i was standing on).....it actually may have been julio that ran it....either him or Richardson ....they're both just as good
Sore looser, you must be a Texas god , Mccoy didn't play, the real God took him out, plus he didn't do anything in the NFL, all he wanted was the money
@Valhalla6257 over used excuses. Been there, heard that, that's the excuse everybody uses when they lose,Mccoy wanted the NFL money, was he NFL caliber, answer 🤔 👎
Julio Jones vs Patrick Peterson was such a great rivalry matchup.

And now you’re getting dominated by Vanderbilt 😂

They lost to Florida in a grudge match SEC championship the year before?
I had forgotten how bad McElroy could be. He missed 3 easy TD's plus an interception just before the 1/2. This game should have been a blowout.
Threw a long TD pass to Julio Jones in the 2nd half though.
He won the game...you are the type of person who has a million dollars and are missed off because you don't have 2 million
He was buns
Alabama got a lot of good fortune that season wire to wire...it was sweet.

It's amazing Alabama was able to win a Championship with McElroy he was a handicapped..

Still remember Patrick Pertterson being screwed out of that int.

Coach Saban waited to use him during the 2nd half ;)
When Les was at LSU these 2 teams had some battles👍
Even though bama won almost a decade vs LSU not a single game it wasn’t competitive. These two teams just don’t like each other and i love it lol
@@kobebean4359 Those games were full of hard hits👍
Julio Jones should've had more TD receptions that year. He had some injury issues.
He had some QB issues. McElroy had a rough middle of the season.

Weird watching an Alabama-LSU game not in primetime

Face mask has a whole new meaning then a football penalty. Only an 8 conference schedule this year. SMH.
Never forget this game. Fresh from Iraq, pocket full of money with my purple and gold and the refs HOSED US
THAT WAS A INTERCEPTION BY PATRICK PETERSON....
LOUISIANA H.B toe barely hit the line actually
Nope
Dummy
No conclusive evidence. Peterson was in and out of the game due to injuries so he was too hurt for it to be conclusive evidence for a pick.
No it wasn’t
Cut it out, foot was definitely was in..
They should've used jefferson the 2nd half
I could not stand Danielson... And Lundquist was just as bad, going along with Danielson.

No way Bama wins the Natty without Colt McCoy injuries McElroy is a mediocre Qb but played well in SECCG

Mcleroy was so ass 😂
Very sad the better team lost this game
Lol
LSU was NOT the better team. The score was a lot closer than the play on the field made it seem. Don’t be so naive.
Very happy the better team won this game
