    As a Norwegian, I was thrilled when the plot suddenly went to Norway. Lots to enjoy here. I don’t think the wolves scared away the rabbits, dude. There aren’t wild rabbits here. Painaway MAX is my favourite brand of painkillers. And I also speak English with a Norwegian accent in my own home of course. Except the curse words. Can’t say those in English, that would be improper. (For those who want to know what the curse words mean, Fitte = cunt. Dritt = shit. Jævel = devil, though tone-wise I’d probably translate it to fucker or piece of shit or something here. Faen is basically just the typical ‘fuck’, though literally it originally means ‘the devil’.) (Oh, but ‘are you fucking serious’ is fine? Idk why I’m even expecting them to be consistent.) Also the name of the place is literally just The Silent Valley. Silentdale? Sounds like the name of a place from a children’s book tbh. ‘Lille venn’ means ‘little friend’, but is a common way to refer to children. Though, this guy uses it to an excessive degree. To begin with I felt like maybe this was written in Norwegian first and then translated very directly, but now I’m not so sure. The dialogue is so stilted throughout it’s hard to say.
    Folklore nitpick. A nokken would’ve dragged her into a lake in the woods and drowned her, so I don’t think it was that. At least use a being that was actually said to enter people’s houses.

    To me the most hilarious thing is that everyone told me that I was a grumpy OG fan that couldn't let go that Kojima didn't do PT and that Konami was good because they changed.
    Flashforward a year later, actions speaks by itself: Konami has learned jackshit and they're exactly the same as the last 2 decades: scummy people who are trying to make a quick buck hiring low level studios to make the most amount of money possible.
    They rejected many studios not because they were incompetent, they rejected them because they offered no money. Genvid knew how to sold their idea and I assume that the CEO + board leaders got hard when Genvid told them that it's mobile monetization.

    • @theMaxTero
      @theMaxTero 9 месяцев назад +9

      @@electricfishfan7159 I am a huge fan since 99 and around 2008 I started to notice Konami's pattern until the thing about Book of memories happened (the dungeon crawler one). I think like a year or 2 later PT happened and that helped to expand the fanbase because even tho SH was beloved, it was kinda niche. That brought a new wave of fans that have very wild takes and ideas of the game (like Kojima working in OG games/creating SH) and one of the worst is people who got upset when you mentioned why SH is in the current state it is and why we dislike Konami.
      For reals, there was a long period of time (I would say for abour 3 or 4 years) that out of nowhere, a bunch of Konami apologist appeared out of nowhere deluding themselves that the reasons where many but Konami's fault (or they were tired of hearing the pachinko situation) which is annoying because it's the truth lmao.
      Anyhow my point isn't to bring division into the fanbase, my point is the same: proving that Konami hasn't changed in the slightless and ascension is a great look into what Konami wants. In other words: expect nothing but much worse with the other games.

    As I am watching Ep.1, it was mentioned in the recent Castle Super Beast podcast:
    People assume that this is just all AI-generated. All of Silent Hill Ascension.
    The company and the whole staff on LinkedIn is somehow very much into narrative story-driven AI content, said that "maybe the series will end before all of that, we don't know", as if they had no involvement, plus some of the recent episodes look super janky with characters snapping into places where they should be - i.e. no human would animate it like that.
    The company denies any AI involvement, but HOT DAMN does it smelly fishy. I mean, LOOK at it, wowee

    • @PotionSmeller
      @PotionSmeller 9 месяцев назад +66

    • @Dlark17
      @Dlark17 9 месяцев назад +33

      Idk - I've said this on the 2BFP subreddit, but from my experience with AI writing, this feels less like "I had ChatGPT create an entire script for me" and more "Somebody asked ChatGPT to give them some bullet points and rough content, and our writing team was given 5 hours to hastily make it work." My point being - there's a difference in tone and style between fully AI-rendered and AI-assisted (handicapped) writing.

    • @PotionSmeller
      @PotionSmeller 9 месяцев назад +17

      @@Dlark17 The thing is, due to how the show works there's no real coherent script, just a series of scenarios strung together, supposedly dictated by player choices. Genvid themselves don't know where it will go or when it will end, and the CEO himself was calling the show a "simulation" with thousands of variatons per scene.
      The show structure, the company's and CEO's stance on AI, the actual quality of the writing and bizarre npc behaviors, everything points to AI being heavily involved.
      Anyway, debating how much AI writing was used is a bit pointless if we're on the topic of their statement. Genvid CEO has come out and denied it all, saying "Every word in Ascension was written by real people, many of whom have long-running careers in writing including Telltale titles, Pixar titles, [God of War] Ragnarok, Resident Evil Village and more. Across our 100,000+ words, zero are authored by LLMs or AI, and all are from [the] dedicated work of a talented team."
      This is a classic corporate tactic: as an exec, when you get caught doing dubious shit, just say "our very talented team consists of honest hard-working people, they'd never do that". You shift the blame onto your employees while appearing as if you're vouching for them, throwing them under the bus with a pat on the back.

      The divide is Slent Hill 2 vs the other three where they mostly focused on the cult.
      Personally I prefer the storyline of SH2. The cult is barely mentioned there, because the problem with the cult
      is ruins the fear of the unkown. But somehow Western fans want the cult to be the ultimate force behind Silent Hill and its mystery...in fact it ruins it.
      The joke the comment the person posted above, is for this, that divide that fans have with what they prefer from the Silent Hill Franchise...
      Regardless. One thing is for sure SH2 and some ideas from SH4 revolutionaze the horror video games as we know them today.

I love sh2 so much, but the cult represents religious beliefs as a whole:, self-delusion, pain, pacification and ascension.
      The lore is so inconsistent in SH concerning the cult that I don’t think the details are actually that important, but they serve to let us explore very personal ideas that go beyond the mundane.

When we tried to play fetch with him he just ran to the ball and stood there waiting for us. He wouldn't just chill out if you were petting him. He had to crawl on top of you and put his face directly against yours. He ripped the tail off a lizard one time. He pissed off any other dog who didn't live with him. Wouldn’t be surprised if at least part of the story/writing was also AI generated. What with all the sudden and out-of-nowhere tone shifts (example: look at the scene where the girl finds her deceased mother and confronts (?) her father about it), and the stunted and weirdly generic dialogue (example: when the two cultists (?) talk about the inciting incident. They sound like they’re apart of an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting), or just the general speedrunning of each and every single even semi-interesting plot point, and it’s over-reliance on *telling* us what the characters are like, instead of showing it. A lot of stuff that tends to come up a lot in AI writing.
      It could just be a consequence of the whole CYOA aspect. Like they couldn’t account for all the possible outcomes, so this was the result. Maybe there is some alternate version of events where everything‘s just completely coherent, well delivered and so on. Still feels weird though

    I remember when I was a little kid I decided to write a novelization of Pokemon Blue. The way I chose to go about it was playing the game and writing about what was happening. This meant that my story frequently stopped to have me explain how Red's Squirtle used Tackle on a Pidgey 5 times, or how he fought Bugcatcher, who had 2 Caterpies, each of which Squirtle Tackled 3 times. I'd try to make it exciting, but even if I wasn't very little it'd be impossible to not make those breaks incredibly jarring.
    This feels like that, like it's adapting a game beat by beat, including the bits where monsters show up for no reason other than gameplay... But it's not adapting anything, it's an original story that's just... Written that way.

Buddy would bite the shit out of you if you tried to pick him up and he hated every single fucking person. He had asthma so if people were around he'd freeze in place and make these goblin wheezes. Guy hated being alive and I hated him at first, and then eventually just felt bad for him. The moment I felt love was when me and him were alone one day, he let me pick him up and we hung out on the couch for a long time. Whenever we were alone after that, me and him were friends.

    • @hanonondricek411
      @hanonondricek411 9 месяцев назад +8

      Usually in this type of interactive narrative, the branches are completely planned and written out in advance. The trick with audience "voting" is that any choice will mostly be cosmetic or will change the "tone" of a scene and any seemingly different story branch is designed to bottleneck back to the planned narrative. If someone can actually "die" it's usually a choice between two characters and the story is written so either character can be removed from the narrative and the other fills the role going forward. Or if a character dies for good, there will _seem_ to be a way to save them but all choices are fatal and the death is planned - there might just be a different animation if they die by fire or spikes or whatever. Since this looks like a one-off where you can't re-play and try different choices, the plot is likely going to be pretty rigid ("every choice is canon!") only with the illusion of branching and choice. The audience might get to choose which color shirt a character wears and that asset switch is planned for, but they're not going to let the audience actually control or majorly change the story in a way not planned for.

    The worst is that there is a version of this idea that is actually cool. A show where the audience can influence the outcome by watching and spending points, sure, a little gimmicky, but it's interesting! Problem is that you need really, really, REALLY good writing for something like this to work. Production value aside, if the writing was good this could work. But seeing how bad it is from the start and how the monetization is clearly the focus, it just comes off as a gimmick to make money, not an actual idea they wanted to realize. It's clearly just a product.
