The music, the bikes, the what-the-fuck-is-going-on atmosphere, the megacity about to e-x-p-l-o-d-e... For that reason, it will always be special. That, and also because it's fucking awesome.
my favorite part about Toonami on Adult Swim is that every December they show movies and Akira happens to be one of my favorite movies so I literally wait an entire year just to watch Akira the wait is worth it

You must check Geinoh Yamashirogumi - Gaia album (1990). Track "Disco" blow up my mind!!! I now very surprised that anime AKIRA don't have this track! Anyway, album is absolutely brilliant!!!

The hand drawn animation of old anime is sadly missing and it just makes me hate modern stuff more and more because it all looks so cheap and filler...
