I bought a highend ASUS gaming laptop for my son. The ROG eye came with it. I was blown away by the Sound quality, build and the image. So I went hunting for this in the market. In India when I ordered this device I got the ROG Eye S which I originally thought would be the same as ROG Eye. Unfortunately its different despite the specs being same....the quality is way lower. The sound is good but image is quite saturated, grainy and artificial. Also there is no software/driver/firmware available on the ASUS website for the S version. Have you encountered ROG Eye S. Is there a solution?
The ROG Eye sacrifices quality for portability, while the Logitech C922 is focused on streaming at one place, not on the go. Unless you are one of those pro gamers who carry around a Razer Blade or a lightweight gaming laptop everywhere, you're better off with the Logitech. Asus sacrificed literally everything to make a modular 60fps webcam, specifically for livestreams while away from home. I would like to see a review of both webcams being tested while on the go, like taken out and used in a car while it is moving or something, or any outdoor conditions or which webcam is easy to setup and pack. Sadly, Coronavirus made people stay at home and not move anywhere, so that would be impossible. I can say that the Logitech C922 is for pro Twitch streamers/startup streamers, while the ROG EYE is for budget VTubers/budget streamers (VTuber cams require any 60fps cams), and during the pandemic, the ROG EYE is looking pretty appealing to the budget streamers.
My ROG eye seems to have a bad lighting. when opening camera the lighting is much brighter but when using apps like messenger and zoom it looks darker. do you nkow how to fix that?/
A small update to the ROG eye. I ordered it a couple of days ago and the cable provided is LONG. Way longer than what he has here, mine comes in at about 6 feet. I find this as a negative because it is marketed towards laptops so a long cable is unnecessary and cumbersome. I now have a rats nest wherever I set up my webcam and laptop. The quality is also definitely not 1080p, but I'll be damned if I have to pay for a Logitech from scalpers right now.
Exactly bro, I got this for the MSRP. All logitech c920/922s are overpriced rn or will take up to a month to deliver and I need a damn webcam ASAP at the moment.
@@mycomputergl0wsblu Amen lol. This is my first standalone webcam though. Is it just me or was the quality kind of disappointing. It looks as though I'm getting 480p quality.
Asus 1080p on their camera is shit I guess.. I'm using rog phone 1 and the 1080p camera is horrible as well (not sure if phone 2 & 3 got better camera quality or just some paper specs..)
I thought I was the only one who's having some issues with the quality of the webcam. Long cable, marketed as 1080p but in reality it's only about 480p

hi sir kevin, the price of c920 is php5.5k plus and c922 is 6k plus, then the rog eye is 3k plus only. would like to ask if rog eye is good enough for video chatting like skype. i'm on a tight budget right now. thanks
I kind of like the portable webcam but it falls off my screen because it’s so thin. It’s an okay webcam and less grainy than my Microsoft Life Cam I bought during lockdown 😂 I use a separate microphone to record since the sound quality is better.
i lost my cable for rog eye s, what alternative cable can i use? i used a random usb cable and it is not detecting it, is there a special cable i need to look at? thanks in advance
It doesn't look like it-- it's been a while since I've inquired with my contacts at ROG about their plans on making a webcam, but their latest effort (the ROG Eye S) is just 1080p60. I'll try and ask the next time I meet with them again!
got this webcam free with a Zephyrus. Really sucks for what is advertised. 1080p 60fps barely works even with powerful LED lights and everything looks so grainy that it reminded me of my 2011 Toshiba's built in webcam.
Yes, it has been determined to be an issue with the sample given to me. The ROG Eye I used in this video was an engineering sample, and such had non-retail drivers that messed with the audio. It has since been replaced with a retail one by ASUS ROG, and the new unit works properly. :)
ROG Eye also gets disconnected everytime you adjust it on top of your monitor. It's annoying. I'm using it for a year now and will be giving it to my girlfriend once I bought another (c922)
Thanks Kevin - good review. I recently purchased the C922 and while I think overall I like it and from your review it tops ROG Eye for reasons you cover well, I discovered a really annoying feature. I have a docking station set up and when connected via USB to the docking station and I turn off my Surface Pro, the LEDs each side of the camera blink constantly and brightly. Lights up my study like a disco. Contacted Logitech and they said no configuration option to turn this off and only solution is to unplug each time I shut down my laptop. Mmmmm - very annoying feature.

Well, I tried using this for miniature painting, and the biggest issue is actually the weird colour rendition in the camera. Somehow maybe because of lighting or my settings (since Asus doesn't have a ROG Eye-specific proprietary software to go with), magenta actually appears blue in my monitor?
Ok, for real. Why are there no proper 60FPS, good quality 1080p (or even 1440p) webcams out there? Do you really have to turn to a real camera?! It's silly, we have the technology, surely?!
I think it's an issue because of USB 2.0. Most webcams nowadays are still made to be compatible with USB 2, which is a very slow and relatively low-powered standard. Don't forget, camera sensors are power hungry. And not only do you have to power that camera sensor, you also have to transfer data at almost real-time, and perform on-board computing on it like focus, IR depth scanning, and automatic gain, etc. Take the Logitech Brio for example. It requires USB3 to power because it can do 4K capture at 30, or 1080p at 60. It simply cannot run on the low bandwidth and power afforded by the outdated USB2 standard. The sooner we drop support for USB2 and adopt better standards (like USB3.2 and USB-C), we will start to see drastic improvements in consumer webcams. Unfortunately, gamers are only part of the market for webcams. The market majority of webcams are still the schools that use them for educational purposes, and offices that use them for work (internet conferencing), two webcam uses that don't really need high resolution 60fps quality. I still have my eye on this segment of consumer tech. As soon as we get some interesting improvements, be sure to check back on my channel because I'll do everything I can to discuss it here! :)
