- Awesome - Homemade car brake bleeder -- Brake Flush -- Free and you can do it one person . Works brilliantly for a free diy project. All you need is a spray bottle and some 1/4 or 6mm clear plastic tubing. You will need to make a connection with the suction pipe from your sprayer into the 1/4 tubing. This can be done with teflon tape or a few inches of 1/8 rubber tubing. If you cant get a tight fit hot glue works well. Once the sprayer is connected to your hose all you need do is open the bleed screw and push on your plastic tubing. Add some brake fluid and start pumping. Cheers Gerry

Awesome Car Brake bleeder 2020 ... Clearer Video ....ruclips.net/video/zvyjS91DWWU/видео.html Cheers Gerry
Bonjour.
I am super impressed, I have been a mechanic for 47+ years, I have owned my own repair shop and have gone and bought all kids of vacuum pumps so one person can do the job, and never once did I ever think to try this, very, very smart, I'd like to see what other tricks this guy has up his sleeve.
...most or all the vacuum pumps aren't worth a crap either...
I like how RUclips like knows your life and recommends a video of something your doing. But right after you've done it. In particular just did a brake job yesterday and today it shows me this brilliant idea.
30 years working on cars and I never thought of this. I can't wait to do my next brake job.
Thanks Joseph. If my wife was around to help with the brakes I would have just pumped them as usual. I am not a mechanic but work with tools all the time. Thanks for commenting Cheers Gerry👍
I came up with this over 40 years ago when i first started working on cars.
@@d1specdrifter so your video must be found somewhere on beta or VHS?
@@highspeedenthusiast6628 ask your mom ,she would know where the video is, when she filmed it of me.lmfao.just be sure to ask for the car video we made, not the others.hahahahaha

Tried this myself, worked FLAWLESSLY! I followed another commenter's advice and cracked the fluid reservoir cap as well. Thank you!!
That's great. I am happy it worked for you McSpankyWeiner Johnston. For such a simple idea it's very effective and totally free. Thanks for commenting Cheers Gerry👍
You saved my bacon getting trapped air out of a stubborn clutch with a really inaccessible bleed nipple. The two person method was painfully slow and didn't work well enough. Using your method let me pull about 300ml through the system in 5min. No more air bubbles and much better clutch bite point. This is going to be my standard method now, thank you.
Hi Aidan. Great that it worked for you. It really is a cheap fix. Thanks for taking the time to post a comment Much appreciated Cheers Gerry👍
I took an old 12v tire pump for car tires and JB welded an inlet tube where it sucks in air and connect it to a catch jar with an input and output. Put it on the nipple, plug in the tire pump and watch the catch jar as you open the bleeder and fluid will flow. Easy and powerful.
Hi Rigid Wing. That was a cool idea to create vacuum. I have just remade this video but didn't manage to cure the bubble problem Thanks for commenting 😀 Cheers Gerry
I designed one of those one man "bottle" bleeders over 30 years ago... But you have definitely improved on that idea!
2 tips to make it work better
#1 keep an eye on the reservoir level so it doesn't get too low.
#2 keep the tubing above the brakes so you don't create air bubble back bleed from the loose bleeder valve.
👍👍👍👍👍 5 thumbs up to you!
The tiny bubbles going up are coming from the threads on the valve
Very clever. I should of watched this video half hour ago as I just bled my brakes with my wife pumping the pedal. Your invention is terrific
Hi Nick. Great to see you are on talking terms with your better half 😂 Thanks for taking the time to comment. Cheers Gerry 👍
What a great idea! Over the years I have found that 99.9% of the time, all I need to do is gravity bleed the system. This looks great for the rare time the gravity flow won't start. Thanks!
Hi Saab Rech. When all you have to do is open the bleed nipple and let the fluid flow it's great but like you say for the times it's being stubborn this is a great little setup and free too.😀 Thanks for commenting Cheers Gerry👍
No need for expensive brake tools with this tip. One man job done now ...
Man I don't know if you came up with this on your own or whatever but you deserve a Nobel peace prize for this! Lol. Amazing
This is a fantastic idea, another method is put a piece of tube over the open bleeder then put it in an old bottle of brake fluid then just pump the brakes, no need to open and close the bleeder. It works great. Also a tie wrap around the hose stops leaks.
Thanks for the idea
This man deserves a Nobel prize
I wouldn't have thought a spray bottle head would be strong enough. That's brilliant!
Hi The Mid Engined Legend. Years ago I used a fuel pump off an old ford and hand cranked it and it worked well, I t wasn't a big jump to the Spray Bottle but it certainly makes lots of vacuum. Free to try too which is great 😀 Thanks for taking the time to comment Cheers Gerry
You know I just took delivery of a power bleeder that was $60. Still in the sealed box. Love this idea. So many of those pumps under any sink. Fantastic
I bought a small vacuum pump at a thrift store for cheap and I used it on my last brake bleed and it worked great. But your idea is brilliant to say the least. When my vacuum pump quits I’m gonna try your idea. Again I 👏👏👏👏you.
Very good! Please remember, start the bleeding process at the farthest wheel from the brake fluid source, (tank). The back passenger side first. The back drivers side second. The front passenger side third. Lastly, the front drivers side.
Cheers Gerry!
Bloody Brilliant ! I would like to suggest just little addition to that kit. A small one way check valve check valve! From the brake bleed, use a 1"/25mm hose, then the check and then as long a hose as you need to the stray trigger.
The trigger has it's own stop valve and the check valve will prevent fluid from being drained out of the hose when disconnecting from the bleed screw. At least a very minimum amount of fluid of which a rag will catch. At least, if you drop the hose or lay it down, it won't leak all over the place!
Ohhh and by the way, make sure you top up that fluid in the reservoir before you start and keep an eye on it and keep topping up!!!!
Cheers
Come on RUclips. Why don't you put this in my recommendation of last night.
This is brilliant and simple.
Thanks for sharing.
you need like a billion likes for this, you sir are my hero
That's a wonderful idea, I'm a DIY and i really had problems whenever i work on my car brakes, thanks a million Sir 👍
There should be a 'Love' button.
Brilliant idea. I can’t see how in the hell anybody can give a thumbs down to this but I suppose somebody found something they don’t like about it. I guess they’ve never had to try to bleed brakes alone before😪
I didn't read all the comments. Try Teflon tape on the threads. And janitorial supply will have a high capacity sprayer for rear brakes. Sometimes the bleeder is blocked, necessary to remove and drill out rust blockage. But great hack! Now u don't need to buy another mityvac gizmo for $35! Cheers!!!
Hi CORVAIRWILD Thanks for the suggestion Cheers Gerry👍
This is great thanks. I used plumbers PTFE tape wrapped around the plastic pipe to make up the thickness to match the ID of the rubber tube, works a treat 🙂
After watching so many videos and After 3 days all day of trying different methods on bleeding the breaks I finally did it, I have breaks once again. With new rotors and pads on all four installed and full flush and it's now working better then ever I'm set. I'm glad I don't have to go through this again anytime soon. 👌👇🤘💪
Brilliant. Put a little grease around the threads to prevent air too.
Hi Dictum Factum Good advice Thanks for commenting 👍
I was thinking never seize
Ptfe plumbers tape is best 👍
I would use bubble gum, peppermint, spearmint , wintergreen , which ever you fancy .
teflon tape my guy
The Nobel Prize should be awarded to you! Thank you sir wow
don't you feel guilty robbing the parts store of all them sales.....that is awesome and so simple probably got dozen old spray bottles laying around van put one of them back in service recycling!!!!!!
Hi Joe. The amazing thing is all you need to find is some tubing. The pump already has powerful suction. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Much appreciated Cheers Gerry👍
Parts stores still make money off the fluid, pads, rotors, calipers, and other parts. As a parts store counter person, it really doesn't make me any difference. I'm either going to sell the parts to you directly, or to you via your mechanic.
If you, as a DIY'er, want to do your own work using tools you make from stuff you have laying around, I'll still be here to sell you the parts you need and don't have. By the way, we sell the spray bottles and tubing as seen in this video. Probably 5% of my sales start off with my customer saying I saw this on RUclips. 😉
Yea, RUclips videos are great.
I just did my own brakes last night.
Oh my God, I've never known how easy it is.
Some mechanics wanted $340 to do only the front brakes.
Well I did it myself. Took my car for a test drive. Wow, very nice. Brakes work great.
Mechanics are not losing money though, they still have lots of customers.
@@guesswhomartin9249 welcome to the club. I started wrenching on my own cars 20+ years ago when I first started driving because I couldn't justify giving a mechanic my hard earned money.
@@jjbailey01 .... I agree, Many years ago someone told me, never do your own brakes. Always have a professional mechanic do it, so if anything goes wrong, You can sue the mechanic. Why did I ever listen to that, I'll never know. That was stupid advise.
I never knew how easy it is to do your own brakes.
Thank you again for your comment.
Have a great day.
Having a huge brake problem on my old bronco, changed pads and calipers and got a ton of air in the lines, and every time I bleed the system it did not get better, this method got it back to a ok” state, will try more when I get a chance but at least I don’t need two people. Thanks a bunch
This is what I call REAL help for the common man. Thank You, and God Bless.
Hi Davey It's just a simple little setup but works great. A spray pump with an adjustable nozzle would be better as you dont have to atomise the brake fluid when sprayed. Free and the possibilities of recycling the sprayer off an old bottle of something are great too. Thanks for commenting Cheers Gerry 👍
Yes, imagine every garage and DIY mechanic keeping a sprayer in their toolbx😊@@GerrysDiy
I used this method today and it worked a treat 👍👍👍👍👍
A large veterinary syringe for oral use works well as a cheap vaccum bleeder and can also be used as a reversed bleeder. I paid less then $3 at my local farm store.
This spray bottle seems like a good idea as well. Thanks for sharing.
Dude I'm STUPID. I have plenty of syringe type w/o needle saline. I could have used those w/a piece of hose. Thanks man..
@@beetlejuiceonsyte1945 no problem. Happy to pass on things that i find useful.
and you can push the fluid up on a bike/ATV. so much easier than try to pump smal brake systems
How many CC for the syringe? And how much should you draw out?
Did a pressure bleeder with a £ shop garden sprayer, hooked up to the master cylinder (well sealed, fitted gauge max of 15 psi!). Worked a treat, no pedal pumping required either. This is a very good alternative idea, using vacuum instead of pressure, that i will remember and try one day for sure.
I’ve just done this - it’s brilliant ! Thank you Gerry !
Just put a spray bottle in the bin, ran down before the garbage truck came now in the shed and getting parts to try your invention Thanks and yes I have subscribed Great stuff.

This is something I never thought of. I have this in my garage from an empty weed killer container or from Armor All. I will try this method.
Was doing a full brake pipe replace, have a vacuum pump which lent to friend, (was stuck )looked on RUclips found your video made one up , worked a treat ,thanks mate 👍
Absolutely amazing! What a simple, yet obvious way to do it. Nice one, thanks!
Great accent. Then again, I'm part Irish. . . I made a bleeder system years ago using a marine gas can primer bulb.
☝️one thing...
You should just cut bottom part of original bottle of the sprayer so you got:
1. Better handle,
2. Room to store your bleeding lines.
Cheers

Oh my lord..thanks for sharing us the ultimate way how to do that..i'm sure that almost people around the world doesn't thinking how this genius old man created this method..
Salute!!! 😌😌😌
A good way to keep air from seeping through the base of the bleeder valve is to apply a layer of grease, it will plug the cavity between the threads as you apply vaccume preassure to the line.
So this hack helps with not even getting in the car yourself and pumping the breaks that's really brilliant
The PURE SIMPLICITY of this has caused a face palm moment for me...TYVM!

Sir, great simple idea , awesome
This is flipping genius, I will be using this technique the next time.
Good idea, I did a similar thing without the squirty gun, I just put a long tube on the bleed nipple and up to the inner wing ran into a plastic container then pumped the brake pedal and topped up master cylinder, as you pointed out as long as the tube runs high up any air runs up the tube, when no more bubbles close nipple job done. No need for second person.
Cheers Gerry, I love these little tricks! Brakes was a job I was dreading, now I'm looking forward to it.
I've been using an Eezi-Bleed for years but have found it struggles to push fluid through ABS systems. So, I've been looking for a way to create vacuum to suck fresh fluid through. I considered using a vacuum cleaner and even the car's own vacuum assist pump. Now though, I feel like any video I put out about brake bleeding will always be eclipsed by this one 😂. You Sir, are a genius 👏👏👏👏 🖖🖖
Oh, and additionally: two tips:
i use a small tie wrap to secure the hose to the nipple
and
apply a couple of drops of brake fuid to the threads of the nipple to provide an air seal (grease and oils may contaminate the brake fluid).
Hi Cyclone Cyd. Thanks very much for taking the time to comment on this video. It's a simple little procedure now and pulls the air and fluid with no difficulty at all. I love the free part too 😀 Cheers Gerry👍
Add a tad of super glue or sealant to the tubing if using insert to make air tight. Awesome idea

@@GerrysDiy i'll see Your videos!
God Bless you sir!! And your wife for making you think of an alternative genius solution!!
A good idea as a poor mans substitute for a $19 hand vacuum pump, but:
1. Air is more compressible/expandable (stretchable) than fluid. A shorter tube makes the work go faster.
2. Most of the air is being sucked in around the threads of the bleeder screw. Put some silicone grease/Silglyde around it and this hack is more effective.
... anf find a piece of tubing that fits, so you have no tubing joints, there is probably more air coming in where small tubing is sleeved into bigger tubing, than via the threads.
Catheter is what I used for the tubing ....this one was clean.
No buddy.. Liquids can't be compressed.. Physics..
@@TR4zest those hoses fit tight, no air was getting around there
I'm thinking a bicyle pump with the plunger(?) turned around so it sucks instead of blows. Could do a brake line in one pump and nip up bleeder towards the end to gurantee that no air gets in.
WOW...and to think I spent 40 dollars for a tool...this is a great idea..Thanks

Great idea! Thanx for sharing. I'll never forget that awesome easy way.
Very helpful. I just did my motorbike using a piece of clear plastic tubing and a smaller diameter rubber hose inside of that to fit tight over the bleed screw. But I used the old school method of a jar half filled with fluid. It works but there's always a danger of spilling it and on a bike I could reach the levers to pump fluid through. However, I've just mad up a 'squeezy' version for next time. Great vid.
As Soon as I seen what you were doing I said genius 👍
Just did mine sprayer not enough volume used a softsoap hand cleaner pump worked great Insulation form co ax for a tube the pump has a clear straw 👌
Very simple but Great idea buddy!! CONGRATS !!!
I wish I would have thought of this before dropping $20 on a bleeder kit. I had a method similar to this 20 years ago but I couldn't for the life of me think of how it went. Thanks for the tip!
Hi Maingun07. This was the first time I bled the brakes with a sprayer but it really does a great job and for free too which is a big bonus. Cheers Gerry
Great alternate use for the spay bottle pump, however I noticed that the brake fluid was creating mist. Care should be taken, since brake fluid has a tendency to bubble painted surfaces.
Exactly brake fluid is very cancerous and by spraying that into a dish you do not want to breathe that crap in that will cause lung cancer! That's no joke! That guy should be wearing a dust mask!
@@Eurospec73 That's brake *dust*.
I noticed that too. That it is a big concern. Maybe you should use a sprayer that has an optional screen in front to spray foam instead of mist. You could use a piece of fabric
there is a solution - destroying a nozzle
without nozzle spray pump will generate stream of fluid without creating mist (optionally put pipe on destroyed nozzle and put other end of pipe in eg. bottle)
@@andreit3582 the spray foam is from the product, break fluid wont foam you idiot
All because the wife wasn't there....are ya sure she doesn't want any credit? Pure definition of desperation makes inspiration ! A +
Clever idea. Maybe I can apply it to my motorbike which has an air bubble somewhere in the lines.
Zły pomysł!!! Zawsz będą bąble powietrza wchodzące przez nieszczelność gwintu odpowietrznika!!!

YOu can also put a greased rubber O-ring at the threads on the rotor to help stop outside air coming in. G>
Simple and it works. Do yourself a favor and go buy a few feet of smaller diameter tubing at the local hardware store to avoid the tube-in-tube that lets in air.
Thx a lot smart and easy best way on RUclips I found
A little bit of grease around the bleeder valve threads would eliminate those pesky tiny bubbles. Awesome video. I love it when simple solutions can help thousands. Thanks from Vancouver, Canada.
you need to take the spray nozzle off the end of that thing so it doesn't spray all over your paint or anything like that. It just unscrews. other than that it's genius
