    My biggest tip is don't wait to edit when you get back, you will have a mountain of footage to trawl through and you'll never get to it. It's best to do it as you go, and you will be happy you did because you will have videos to watch and remember the amazing times you had on your tour. I only wish the gopro 8 existed when I cycled across Canada in 2016, the stabilization in that thing is AMAZING! Also don't be afraid of the camera, talk to it about what is going on, it keeps it interesting, scenic shots are great but varity is even better!

    • @MatHall
      @MatHall  4 года назад +1

      Love it! Great tips. Ones I certainly picked up on as we carried on cycling and the footage amount grew and grew! Once you're on top of it and do a little each or every other day, it feels amazing. Stabilisation is getting better and better too. It's hilarious how bad my first videos were on gopro 5-10 years ago!!

I'm currently editing the trip into a full hour long ish film on my laptop, to contradict everything I said in this video ha! But simple is best when edting on the go :)

    Ah cool PowerDirector will have to check that out some time. Just started using Da Vinci Resolve on the Mac thats pretty cool software too for editing - got tired of Adobe software so the hunt began for something different, something faster and equally as free.

    "Just grabbed it out my trousers" xD nice one mate. It is an all round comprehensive video, nicely done! Actually I was carrying my laptop all the way, but that is just me, I like to have my tools with me, however this is a lot lighter. How does the dji mini work for you? The spark stated to be really disappointing for me so I'm thinking about to switch over.
    Oh and one last thing : as far as I know, after you cancel your ES subscription, you are not entitled to use the music in future videos, so you won't be able to monetize it. Meaning, you will still get copyright claim, but no copyright strike, so your video can stay in RUclips, without you getting money from it and having ads.
    Great video, take care! :)

    • @MatHall
      @MatHall  4 года назад +1

      Ah that is very interesting about the copyright once you dont have subscription. I will look! At the mo I am not looking to make money so it's ok. I think even if somehow I get to 1000subs, and say 5k views, you only earn a few cents! Thanks for the comment tho bro! Re:spark I found it ideal for our need to be honest. I haven't thought the mavic mini but I know it's just an improved, lighter version of spark basically! Great to finally get another video up. Next one will be out mini cycle tour on honeymoon! All the best mate! PS... I had a 'best of examples' section to the video with you in it, but I didnt realise I had to stick below 15 minutes.. next time... think I will stick make a 'best of vlogs' mini movie!

    Something worth noting about Epidemic sound, it's the date the video is published that matters, so if you publish a video and you don't have an epidemic sound subscription that month they will put a Copywrite claim on that video. Downloading a bunch of music to use later won't work with their subscription. www.epidemicsound.com/personal-subscription

    • @MatHall
      @MatHall  4 года назад

      So I just found out recently that even without subscription you can use Epidemic sound music that you downloaded whilst on a free month trial... a copyright note will occur but the video won't be pulled down.
      But to eventually monetise, you cannot do with any copyrights si you must buy membership again, which I've now done. Now I have to wait a few months to see if I make more than 10 dollars a month to make it worthwhile..! Thanks for your comment. It made me investigate! :)

    Finding your film/edit video really helpful as I try to move on from Moviemaker. Your films are much more professional than anything I've been able to achieve. But I'm not interested in the sophisticated photographic equipment. Content of your films not unfamiliar to me as my cycling journeys have taken me to Istanbul. I'm making a start using Powerdirector

    • @MatHall
      @MatHall  Год назад +1

      Glad it can help! Same method still applies now, but perhaps with a better tablet 4 years it on itd be quicker. I agree, it doesnt really matter about super fancy equipment. A phone would still do a great job and easy edit on something like powerdirector. Glad it helps! Did you document your Istanbul tour? Do you have any tours planned for 2023? Thanks for watching and saying hi Tom!

      @@MatHall Istanbul is included in my pilgrimage to Jerusalem completed in 3 sections spread over a few years. This was my effort at recording it as a video ruclips.net/video/ItEOAMmkmok/видео.html
      This year I cycled a journey through Arles to link up my journeys to Santiago de Compostela and my journeys to Rome. And it's what I'm now looking at recording in a video, using Powerdirector.
      My age is against me completing many journeys but I have plans ...

    A tab 2? That is pretty old. I've been stressing out about getting the S6. Would you upgrade your tablet if you went on another tour?

    • @MatHall
      @MatHall  4 года назад

      Honestly, no! It doesn't lag at all for basic editing and storage. Amazing really how well its lasted! Of course if I had a sudden flow of cash I'd replace the drone that flew away, get a better tablet and camera but ultimately, it's the places you go that makes the content and this old tablet still works quickly enough for me. I think I could get another few years out of it to be honest. Battery life isnt great anymore but its weirdly a blessing in disguise.. it means I can edit for about 2 hrs before it needs to go on ful charge overnight, this making sure I get the balance right of editing and enjoying (although editing is always fun of course!)

    why do u wear a cap under your helmet ?

    • @MatHall
      @MatHall  3 года назад +1

      Hey! Its mainly for sunshade but also keeps any rain drops going into your face. And a lot of the time we're cycling off the road on quiet cycle paths so didn't need a helmet and just had cap for shade too. Plus my little bro bought me the hat as a gift! He lives in Melbourne! :)

    hey guys! so you prefer using a camera vs. a gopro? any reason why?

    • @MatHall
      @MatHall  2 года назад +1

      Hi andrew. Well the more cameras and sd cards = longer to edit etc and more stuff to carry! It all adds up. If we went today i might just take a new gopro as the stabilisation and sound and battery seems to be so much better. But, i love this canon g7x still as it also works wonders on timelapses and still photos without the slight fisheye effect. Plus you can zoom in on the camera for a wider range of shots. Also, with gopro, the temptation is to 'wear' it and often that footage is very boring!

    • @averteramoful
      @averteramoful 2 года назад +1

      @@MatHall I see. Having the camera will give you more options than a gopro would. I do have the Canon EOS M100 that would be perfect. And I have to say your videos came up on my suggested watch on RUclips and watching them has changed my whole dynamics of my trip from rail and car to doing on a bicycle, I had no idea that these bike routes existed . I say Thank you for your great content.
