- Quickly sharing the basics of the mini hoop house design I'm using. Thanks to @jamesprigioni for initial inspiration🔥Material I used for a mini-hoop house to go over a 4ftx10ft (1.2x3m)
3 - 10ft lengths of 2x3 Timber
2 - 10ft lengths of roofing batten 25mmx50mm
2 - 4ft lengths of 2x3 Timber
2 - 2ft lengths of 2x3 Timber
8 - 3m lengths of alcathene pipe 22mm thick
2-3 - Door Hinges
UV Plastic sheeting 16ft x 6ft to allow for plenty of overhang (polytunnel plastic)
80mm nails/screws
40mm nails/screws
Any tape (electrical tape works well)
Thin Wood strips 2.4m 28ft in total (any lengths)
Nails longer than the wood strips
Piece of wood for ventilation
Note - use stainless steel screws and hinge to allow you to easily take the hoop house off one bed and install on another bed 🌿

That is one fancy bit of pleating on the end of the hoop house!
This is an GREAT way to grow lettuce and other greens in the winter time. Most amazing Christmas salads!
Maybe you should actually grow lettuce before commenting on what works well and what doesn't.
@@taitsmith8521 Projection? YOU go grow some lettuce!
Yes you totally can! They've just got to be under cover or in a greenhouse! They grow slowly so you want to plant a bunch, then you just harvest the outside 2 or 3 leaves of each plant once a week or so. You could theoretically plant enough under cover to pick a salad every night.
As long as your winters are mild. This will lose all heat at night and all you will have is a large temperature change which could negatively impact ur lettuce. This is a cute idea for those lucky enough to be in a region with mild winters
@@polandsgarden Correct, this will not work in regions with sustained sub-freezing temperatures. It does work surprisingly well in many zones, though!
I would love to see more details about the build for this mini hoop bed.
james prigioni did a similar raised bed hoop house build a couple months ago, full video with more details
There's now a full video he released yesterday
That is a really cool idea you could also drill holes inside of the hula hoop cut a piece off and attach it to a water hose and you would have a DIY sprinkler
I love these ideas.. I need to get more confident with power tools I’m so useless when I comes to carpentry. But with more projects I’m hoping I’ll become better
Brilliant to show this in such a short video
Thanks!
The most concise instructional on one of these Raised bed covers I’ve ever seen :-) well done Huw!
One of the better ones I've seen. I'll be saving this one
Glad it's helpful! :)
This could also be made with fine mesh instead of plastic as protection for example brassicas. Just what I was looking for 😊
Oooh, good idea! Mesh for brassicas, bird net for strawberries!
@@CWorgen5732 hoping to have two built ready for spring planting 🤞
@@nicholachapman5682 best of luck! Maybe I will too!
@@CWorgen5732 thank you 😊 go for it...
we made two of these but we put agricultural bug screen on the hoops first...its fastened on well, then if it gets super hot...we just throw the shade cloth over them and if it rains too hard...we just throw the poly over each and fasten these on with a few clips.
He clearly got someone else to build that for him. Problem with them is ventilation. Everyday you have to go put it up and down and check it’s not too hot etc
You can automate ventilation with a thermometer Arduino and actuator
Why on earth do you think he couldn't make that? Of course he made it.
huw, what type of plastic did you use to cover it?
Awesome, need some details. 👍🏼
BEST EVER! I've watched many videos on this, and I think your design is the best. THX :)
Awesome, thanks for sharing
Nice job!
Brilliant idea Huw!!!
Nice work
This is so sick
Can you do this on a regular you tube video
Thank you for your simple design
Oh finally found it here! Thanks for all your free material 👍
Perfect!!! 🌱 Thank you for sharing❣️💋💖🦋
This is fantastic! I have two 3x6 elevated beds on my patio and need these! Going to build this weekend.
Yo Huw next time you want a working holiday come to Canada. We can chase bears and build one of these for me!
Super cool 😎 I'm gonna try it
Fantastic!
Love that!!
super idea...!
Brilliant 😊
I was hoping to make something like this for the winter but unfortunately my bed isn’t squared. Im sure I’ll be able to brain storm a solution when the time comes
This is rad, could you show us the building process in a video, particularly that crimping part, wondering how to keep the plastic taught before securing. 🪴🥔🍅🥕🍓
Is it going to stay warm at -20 C? Or should I install some lights + heat mechanics?
only for home usage not for open crops
Beautiful videos! For this build, did you cut down the 3m lengths of pipe to 6 feet to match the 6 ft wide plastic?
What mil is plastic ( where do I get/ name of product?
What kind of pipe it is?
Do you have this in a video on your yt channel? I don't have a phone and this snippet gets cut off at the bottom - would love to see how it is made as I've fumbled along for many years without a frame. thanks
I thought I was the only one where the bottom of "shorts" was trimmed. I have a phone, but it is only for the benefit of my wife and children to keep tabs on me. :)
love it! how do you secure the plastic pipes to the wood?
He drilled holes into the wood the size of the plastic pipes.
Probability metal pipe holders attached to the wood surrounds.
@@saraharclerode6887 He says, "Cut holes along the base frame..." You can use a large drill but or hole saw drill bit.
Awesome!!
Don't need a roofing square. Belter
What is a belter?
I'm betting at least 10 people will see this and have a perfect excuse for why they can't do this.
Can't never could do nothing!
Technically “never could do nothing” means “could do something”
