This is awesome. I just got a set of hollyland mics for interview work and was wondering if people are using them in narrative work. The band aid trick is so simple and genius definitely usung this. You've inspired me. Haven't made a short for a few years.
Very happy to inspire. Yeah, I love those mics! They aren't the best sound quality, but they are so darn convenient. Once they are 32-bit, everything's going to change
Mate, excellent tutorial of a really well made short film. You clearly know story and the cinematography here is on point. Thanks for breaking it all down in such a concise, useful and inspirational way. Subbed 👍

Loved seeing how you brought this to life. Great job with the audio. I've been wanting to do more narrative as well. Have a sci-fi short I plan on making by myself soon. Followed you on IG too. Don't want to break the rules.
Haha, thanks, Chris! Always appreciate that you watch to the end :) re your scifi short, awesome. do it/ let me know how it goes! I've been finding narrative stuff doesn't usually get the dopamine hit of getting lots of quick "content" views, but there's something much more deeply fulfilling about it even if it doesn't get the same appreciation. I had a blast w this, and will probably do a lot more
Awesome breakdown. Sci-fi is my thing (with my other account) so I’m always interested in how others are making theirs. You gave me a lot of food for thought . You should do more short films and breakdowns. The gear reviews are so over saturated
@@ReelMovieNetwork Thanks so much! Glad to hear. Yeah, my cinematic reviews have been good for engagement, but there's been a good number of copycats popping up, which makes it a little less novel. And I don't really love the idea of basically making long-form commercials for brands who aren't paying me. This format was really fun. Integrating gear into a narrative piece, then breaking down the narrative piece. I'm definitely hoping to do more
@@ScottJeschke You are more than welcome. Just because of your work ethic, I am working on a narrated short horror film. You're short influenced me big time brother 🫡✊

I love your creativity. That UFO was pretty amazing. It’s too bad there’s not more of a “Let’s make a cool movie today” community… seems like everyone needs 6 weeks heads up and usually money and crafty. Well, if anyone in the PDX area wants to hook up and do something like this, HMU.
It always pains me to see short films gets zero views. Any video of feeding pigeons in the park on RUclips will be ten times more popular. Love the tricks of using ai for assets.
Appreciate it, friend. Yeah, it's tough. People inherently watch content for how it serves them, unless they are a fan of the artist. The ratio of views between a film, and a films behind the scenes is pretty staggering. I'm guessing with this one though, part of it is because I initially embedded the short in one of my videos. So I posted it again here as a stand-alone piece, since I also got into an online fest
0:15 why not ? Glorify it! There's nothing wrong with that. It isn't about saying that something is better than other it's about being inspired, motivated and doing it without saying oh I can't at the moment because I don't have this or that.
Yeah, fair point. I'm more trying to convey that I'm not one to be like "I don't need help. I can do it all myself". I think solo work for practice, inspiration or even expression is great, but I'm not crazy about it when it's a "screw you" to collaboration -- if that makes sense.
Thanks! haha, no way! I'm not surprised. The real event had a sci-fi feel. When it happened, I kept thinking, what if there was like a mother ship right up there.
@@ScottJeschke yeah it definitely had a Spielberg feel to it!! I went more the Romero route where I asked the question what would happen if the eclipse stopped moving and just froze the earth in darkness… it would wake the dead !
@@evanvine2335 thank you so much! The lenses are definitely super high quality. The anamorphic lens in particular as a very strong movie Look to it. @@RyanBartonGrimley I used it for the anamorphic shots, but just for remote focusing. (Left it on for the slider shots, But it wasn't engaged with the lens). I did not use the lidar though.
