In this video, I demonstrate the bright, tiny, innovative new light from Zhiyun - The Molus X100.
I won't just tell you about the light. I put it through several interior, exterior, day, and night cinematic lighting scenarios to show you the full reach and limits of light.
I really like this format. 🙂
Thank you! So glad it connected
Makes me wish every light/gear review was like this - actually showing it being practically used and all the range you can get from it. Great video and lots of charm to it!
Thank you so much, friend 🙏 means a lot
its actually the lamps that make these scenes look good
No arguments there. When I saw your lamps video I had never felt so seen 😆
New sub! Such creative great work.
Thanks so much 🙏 and thanks for subbing. Welcome to the channel! Hope you enjoy
Sir! Thank you so much! That is exactly what i have been looking for! Thank you so much for so much inspiration! Beautiful work and your time!!!
No problem! Thanks for the kind feedback 🙏🙏
what a great review.
Thanks so much 🙏🙏 really appreciate it
Great video! Glad the RUclips algorithm showed me this. I don’t think I’ll be buying this light, as I have more powerful ones, but it’s cool to see how lighting is getting more portable while still packing a punch. Good work, man!
Glad the algorithm brought you here. Welcome to the channel! and thanks for the kind words.
Thank you for your videos, they are amazing, I really like the color of this clip, could you tell me if you use any LUT?
Thank you! For this one i used a mix of a Film Vision II LUT and Dehancer
Thanks man! Amazing work. Some of your question is blocked by a video card, but I think my answer still stands as Sicaro, skyfall, and the cinematic masterpiece super troopers. How about your top three?
You're the first! Oh man, I love Skyfall. That's a fave for me. Annual watch.
Top three is hard, but probably 1. Raiders of the Lost Ark, 2. Lord of the Rings and... 3.E.T. ? So hard.
Nicely made cinematic.
Your videos are an inspiration for me to try and shoot something
Love that 🙏 thank you!
He is David harbour from stranger things in season 4.
Give us some spoilers for season 5 release date..
I go back to the Gulag
My three favorite movies are: The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and Parasite. What's yours? Flawless video!!
Ayy! Finally someone posting the movies! Great films. I Still gotta see Fantastic Mr Fox. It's so tough to pick three but I'd probably say Raiders of the Lost Ark, Fellowship of the Ring, E.T. thanks for the kind feedback!
You make me want to quit RUclips... I mean, you make me want to get better at RUclips. Great review!
Haha, i make myself want to quit youtube. Always ask myself why i do this, but whenever i finish, it feels worth it. Thanks so much, Phillip! Always great hearing from you.
Wow Real pro quality ❤ what computer did you used to edit so I could look up the specs am looking into purchase one to edit ?
Thanks so much! I recently upgraded to the Apple M2 Max, 64GB, 2TB. It's plenty fast, but don't believe the hype from RUclips. PCs are wayy faster. It meets all my needs though and i've been really happy with it for the price.
This is beautiful, as always! And i plan to buy this Molus soon :-)
Thanks, Vlad! Hope you're well, brother
Great video editing techniques, congrats!
Thank you so much 🙌

Pleasing to watch and informative! Keep it going.👏
Much appreciated, friend 🙏🙏
God! What a great sense of narrative and awesome taste you have ❤
Thank you so much 🙏🙏👊
Looks like a gawx video
Thanks! I love Gawx. I think he's prob the best filmmaker on RUclips. Definitely a huge inspiration
hey scott glad to see your still doing your thing and I can't wait to see a short film like you did for the wrestling brothers lol
Ha itching to make another short soon!
@@ScottJeschke great and you know have a lot of good video equipment for it 😀 👍
You’re the man Scott
Thanks for saying so :)
Awesome video with a ton of great info!
Thank you so much! Really appreciate your comment
Great video! Thanks!!
Thank you so much! Appreciate you watching
Awesome brother
Thank you!
Great mini film review! This is how every gear reviews should be!
Thanks so much 🙏🙏 appreciate the kind words. Although I'm grateful there are folks who get into the weeds on the more straightforward reviews.
@@ScottJeschke this style of review is definitely more creative, and quite enjoyable to watch. Composition, color grading, music, etc.
Keep up the good work 🔥
Thank you so much! Really appreciate the incredibly kind feedback@@quantumstudio4425
Love this thing for its portability and variety of energy options.
Totally agree
I already own this light but this has to be the best review video I've ever seen and would absolutely be sold by it. Spoke volumes in the high quality of shots and cinematography, the diverse range of practical applications shown were not only practical but well executed. Much prefer this format to a "regular" review.
PS the motivated light/outdoor patio scene was magic. What a great use of a simple setup. Amazing work dude
Thank you so much for this thoughtful and meaningful comment! This means a lot to me. And helps me know what's resonating for viewers
Wow man!
🙏🙏🙏
Great video - Would 3 of these lights be enough for a 3 point setup for interviews or would it be overkill?
Definitely would be enough. Although I don't think for every situation. For competing w big conference room windows I think a more powerful light is useful. Because this one needs to be around 100% and it gets really hot
❤
🙏🙏
Just found 1 of your video and start binge watching videos on the channel! Definitely one of my favorite channel, glad to found your channel before 2023 ends 🙌🏻
Thanks so much, friend! That means a lot. And welcome to the channel 👊🙏
Man, I love your videos. So creative and hilarious when appropriate. Well done!
Thanks so much for the kind words 🙏🙏
@@ScottJeschke I also totally dig the film look your always using. I see the grain, gate weave, bloom, and breath! It makes me feel good. Haha.
@@TheRecordist ha good eye! And thank you. It's a shame some of those attributes don't translate well with RUclips compression, but I enjoy them
Bro how much time did this video take? Did you do prepro for this? Or in the moment
Typically anywhere from 30-70 hrs haha. I do pre-pro. Usually I do music and script first. If it's testing like this one I will map out those beats on the script, then write the actual dialogue after I have filmed the beats. Some of them I shot list too
Im not into the market of buying any of these lights but stopped by and watched it all the eay through! Such a great work mate!
Thanks so much, man! Appreciate you sticking around for the video.
What LUT or grading do you use or how are you exposing your scene i love how your footage looks. I really wanna learn how to consistently achieve this look & i just cant figure it out
Thanks! I made an SLOG 3 to Arri Log C 3 LUT + A Film Vision II LUT+ Grading + Dehancer for halation, gate weave, breathing etc. I expose at 0:0 on my meter give or take 1 stop depending on how dark I want the shot. I don't do the expose to the right thing anymore. Just expose to whatever LUT I'm displaying on the monitor, whether it's rec 709 or something custom. On the FX3 the internal rec 709 is actually pretty darn good for exposure. I used to use the Phantom LUT but it would always screw up my exposure.
Yeah, those lights are pretty dope. Got the x100 a few days ago as well.
What do you think about the mini softbox compared to a big one?
It's such a fun light! I think the mini softbox doesn't replace a big softbox by any means. But I found it useful for faking hard light in closeups. So if you had like a hard window source, and then moved in for a close up, it would be a happy medium of looking harder and natural, but also being soft enough for a face. I also thought it was useful in the night exteriors. The reflector was just too harsh and sourcey. I typically bounce for night exteriors, but the mini softbox was nice for some of those medium long shots where it's supplementing practical lamps. So i guess the short answer is it's a nice to have, but it's use cases are very different from a bigger softbox -- at least i found
Best gear review video I have seen to date... fantastically well done my friend.
Thank you so much, Kyle ❤️👊🙏🙏
This content is right up there with Lewis Potts - Amazing way to review a product.
Love Lewis Potts! Most kind. Thank you so much! 🙏
Hi Scott, I stumbled onto your channel by accident... what incredibly cinematic, fresh and unique way to do gear reviews. I'd put you up there with @GxACE. Subscribed, keep up the good work! 👍

Thank you so much, brother. That means a lot!
Hey man - this video is wayyyy too good for a gear review. You’re gonna be a rising star in this space, big time.
Thanks so much, Kevin 🙏🙏 really appreciate this
Great review, what blows my mind is the portability feature
Thank you! Same! So portable. And so quick w workflow because it's bright but also so dang lightweight
I've never thought about cinematic lighting before. Outstanding review. It has given me a new rabbit hole to fall deep into. Thanks!
Thank you so much! Appreciate you checking out the channel.
this style of storytelling and filmmaking is what youtube has been missing, Awesome Video!
Thank you so much 👊🙏🙏
I’ve been so hesitant to get this for weddings but the way you did this review gave me so much ease. Truly beautiful!
Thanks so much! I haven't done long term testing, but it seems like the perfect light for weddings
Duuude so many good lighting setups in this video
Thanks so much, Jeff! Had fun w this one
Really digging the style of your reviews Scott! I really love how small and portable this light looks. Something that would be perfect to have for a few travel jobs that I've got coming up.
Thanks, so much, Ben!
Yeah, man. The advancement and innovation even in the past couple years w these lights is wild. Such a perfect travel light. It's like a 120d that fits in a carry on.
@@ScottJeschke There’s so much choice for good quality LEDs now. As filmmakers we’re spoilt for choice.
@@bseng totally. It's insane that even 7 years ago led COB lights more or less didn't exist
Really enjoyed how you turned a simple review into a unique story.
Thanks so much, Chris! 🙏🙏👊
Love your style, Scott! Great video!

I love this aesthetic and this video style soo much. Thank you for everything ❣️
Wow. Too kind. Thank you so much for this encouragement. I'm so glad my videos are connecting with you and inspiring. Keep after it 🙏🙏. All I know is practice. practice. practice.
@@ScottJeschke by any chance can you suggest me a good budget camera I am thinking of buying fuji xs 20 I want it for film making purpose.
@@selamentor, I don't know the fuji system, but my friends love it. I think the A74, the FX30, Sony A6700, and the Sony A7CII are all good 1300-2200 USD 10bit log cameras if you end up in the sony ecosystem. Two are APSC, the other two are full frame. If I were to get a B cam today I'd probably get an FX30
