I bought a 2017 Volt PHEV and it has been the best car I've ever owned. I still get up to 55 miles of EV range of city driving. And I buy gas around two time per year. It's very low maintenance also, for example, I have not changed the brake pads yet. They are not used most of the time while braking, since I use the regen brake paddle. Too bad it got discontinued, otherwise I would buy a new one again. Best car ever for this senior citizen!

It's so strange how these news organizations have these fluff interviews with GM/Ford about EV's, but give Tesla such a hard time when they're ACTUALLY producing EV's at scale. One doesn't have to be a "fanboy" or fanatic about Tesla to see that GM/Ford have been making a lot of claims they haven't even come close to materializing about the number of models they would release, the volume they would produce, etc. They're barely making any at all, but yet this "interview" gets produced that is basically just another marketing fluff piece. So odd. They have't even figured out how to make one without losing a ton of money yet.

To the Volt that now has a tailpipe, to the Bolt that went up in flames, and how does that not remind them of the Ford pinto, at least Ford dumped the name and car entirely. Until they fire every electrical engineer at GM, they will always fall short of reliable. Until GM roots out all in their staff and on their bord that are tied to big oil and willing to sacrifice the company for their own profits, GM will always fall short in profits. Most people don’t understand how hard it is to build software. Even the people who are leaders in software industry struggle with it everyday. With the amount of software in future cars, very hard for companies to survive who aren’t software engineering as core competency.

vision? didn't see EV's coming | experience? going bankrupt and losing market share and giving up whole categories of vehicles to foreign OEMs | wisdom? not smart enough to make a tech car
I live with my 19 year old son. Last year we bought a 2015 Chevy Cruze for him and a 2015 Nissan Leaf for me. Both vehicles cost $8500. It would be great to have an EV like that Cruze in terms of size with a range of 250 miles. And have it sell for under $35K.
Now that's something I'd buy. I had a Honda Civic Hatchback. Loved that car. Missed the designs and feel. I would've tried out the Chevy Cruze if they'd kept producing them still. Maybe they'll come out with an EV someday.
We just got a '22 Leaf for our 19-year-old and she loves it. $13.6K and it drives great. In fact I want one for myself. She's in college but lives at home, so I do take it out for a spin occasionally.
I've never owned a new American car, and in my search for a replacement vehicle I've driven several EVs in the last few weeks. The Blazer EV is the one I can't get out of my head. I had avoided it due to the somewhat overt styling elements inside and out (which I'm getting used to). But the content for the money and materials quality as well as the control layout really impressed, as did the strong AC front and back, and the solid, refined feel of the car on the road. I drove the base 288 hp, 279 mi range model. This is the first American-branded car I've considered in years (not counting the occasional thoughts of an F-150 that I really don't need). Great car.
If you like it, I would get it. GM seems to really be sorting out some of the quality issues that plagued them in their past and they really seem to have a much brighter future ahead.
I currently drive a new American car and I absolutely love it. it's a 2024 Acura Integra Type S. It has 60% U.S. and Canadian content and is assembled in Marysville Ohio.
GM looks like to me honestly they are trying their best. their recent vehicle design is awesome! their earnings keep beating quarter by quarter. I hope they keep their best in the future.
Maybe the architecture of the dealerships needs a complete re-Do. Consumers don’t get to see the design center on a daily basis, but they do get to to see their local dealership every day on their way to work. In order to change GMs image I think the dealership network needs complete reinvention, both from a design point of view And from a modern approach.

"GM is up like 12% in the last ten years” - Lots of reasons for that, from overseas markets being unprofitable, to losing money on sedans and compacts for 25 years in a diminishing market, to poor reliability in comparison to Japanese vehicles long ago. Can’t pay UAW workers what should be because $120 billion of debt from the last 40 years. “We’ll go bankrupt…” , yeah because of poor design decisions and quality perception from 1996. I’ll give Mary a break on all of this - she wasn’t making the decisions that led to all of this, and I respect her for recognizing what GM needs to do to turn it around. The buybacks are some evil greed type stuff tho, Mary. So, anyway I look forward to see the new revolutionary vehicle designs and bold moves that’ll make Sandy Munro smile. Move on from the mistakes of the past, like 96 Chevy Blazer, and Lumina or 2002 Monte Carlo or Impala, or the Avalanche - I guess GM isn’t making any sedans anymore but what I’m saying is choose better visually appealing designs, (the new Colorado looks nice) better handling and suspension (teslas doing it) we all want to see GM thrive, you can do it Mary.

They said in the interview, they put her in place to be the face of GM for the beginning of its demise as it faced it largest recall and they needed her to go give a testimony.
I crashed my Toyota Echo. It may seem like that has nothing to do with GM or its future, but if Mary and her team don't keep in mind their role in the car market as a whole, they're going to have a tough time in the future. They need to improve their affordability and quality, so that they can have a strong used car market that advertises for their new cars. A strong used car market is what makes Toyota, Honda, and Subaru so successful. The car segment is shrinking every year because GM and Ford decided to focus on crossovers, trucks and SUVs instead. It's only a matter of time before people are no longer able to find an affordable proper car for their daily needs.
it's a cost issue for everyone, people aren't willing to pay $20k more for EV, when a hybrid does 95% of the job, until the price comes down enough, this will continue to be a problem, the automakers need to figure that out

@18:30 he states that manufactures have had similar struggles. That’s not actually true. Tesla has been succeeding at developing the manufacturing to produce EV for a profit, alongside everyone else is losing money, attempting the same. Significant difference in consumer sentiment between Teslas products compared to legacy automotive versions of EV’s. Tesla value proposition is another level above the other manufacturers. primarily because of their superior software and charging network, and Teslas vehicles are more efficient and require less battery to travel the same distance.
I visited Japan recently. All the new cars , no junkers primarily cuz of tough emissions. But Japanese value the newest safety innovations in newest vehickes vs USA customers take style over safety. Tesla makes the safest cars in the world
Tesla is competitive, but they are starting to become dated. GM is quite competitive when it comes to safety, and Tesla is simply no longer innovating or really doing much. Meanwhile, their cars are harder than the industry average to fix.

The seamless integration of charging stations, navigation and maps is the reason GM has moved away from third party systems. Apple Car Play and Android Auto are attractive only because the built in systems are terrible. Tesla and Rivian have cracked the code, GM are well advised to follow. Oh yeah and they're not going bankrupt loll.
My first car was a chevy truck and I LOVED it, sad to see where things have gone..
Chevy Volt is the best car ever made. I have 2 of them. A 2013 and a 2017. Both have done over 125,000 miles. Hardly any maintenance. Pity they stopped it
Wonderful program! Just what one expects from Bloomberg
Just bought a 2018 Chevy Volt, these cars are so underrated, GM need to bring it back, it is a great car.
Sadly China has a new plug in hybrid Equinox
I own a 1976 Chevy Nova even now it rarely breaks and I can fix most things myself with cheap parts. 1 ecu failure for you buys me a whole rebuild engine or transmission.
Ev is the future and friendly reminder gas prices are edging up again . OPEC depends on you the consumer so they will lobby to maintain status quo . Ev’s is our leverage against greed from oil companies.
Sure, soon who is going to beef up the grid for all the added charging stations. How are you stopping the NIMBY protestors for all the new nuke, coal, natural gas he'll even solar or wind plants that will require?
It's so strange how these news organizations have these fluff interviews with GM/Ford about EV's, but give Tesla such a hard time when they're ACTUALLY producing EV's at scale. One doesn't have to be a "fanboy" or fanatic about Tesla to see that GM/Ford have been making a lot of claims they haven't even come close to materializing about the number of models they would release, the volume they would produce, etc. They're barely making any at all, but yet this "interview" gets produced that is basically just another marketing fluff piece. So odd. They have't even figured out how to make one without losing a ton of money yet.
This is the first Mary Barra interview I've seen where she comes across as being genuine, not just mouthing talking points.
I get tired of hearing “the first woman” to do a job. I think she does too. It shouldn’t matter male/ female or black/white. It should be the most qualified for the position. Period
Now do Tesla, by far the US EV leader
Bloomberg hates Tesla and its leader Elon Musk. Bloomberg has a section called Elon, Inc. to troll both along with Space X!😊
Emily wound up and hurled a handful of cotton ball questions at Mary with all her might. Mary responded to her brutal attack without flinching at all.
Mary has been incredibly effective. I trust her more than other CEOs. She represents the future of EVs like Elon represented the beginning.
Yuck, what a sappy (I can’t call it an interview) thing
GM killed every electric car they ever made, from the first EV-1 that they refused to sell at even twice the manufacturing cost, and they were offered 1 million for one of their EV-1's and turned it down. Total Debt(mrq) 124.62 BILLION, Yahoo Finance posted May 1, 2024.

Most people don’t understand how hard it is to build software. Even the people who are leaders in software industry struggle with it everyday. You can’t design it, you can’t prototype it, it’s continuously evolving, hard to maintain, becomes obsolete in matter of months.
With the amount of software in future cars, very hard for companies to survive who aren’t software engineering as core competency.
Tesla is leaps and bounds ahead of these dinosaurs. But atleast they are trying so A for effort!
Then there's the resources problem.
Is Bloomberg not the PR division of GM?
Many years ago my shares ofGM disappeared when they have reversed stock split. It ate all my shares of GM. I can't forget what GM has done to me
All my shares disappeared.
3:24 "Google changed the game with autonomous driving"
Ok 🤣
8:07 The biggest reason for safety is so we won't feel bad if someone dies. Pain and suffering of the victim and their family are lesser details.

... And your insurance?
Tell Mary Barra to bring back the Bolt EUV. 😇
they're bringing back the Bolt next year after retooling for the new Ultium platform
Is Bloomberg an investor in GM?
They are a trading platform that uses media to manipulate for trades.
Drove a Toyota Hybrid as a rental last year for two weeks. I was sold on it. If I had a second car perhaps I would go EV but I only have one vehicle that I depend on for everything. Not that comfortable with the range and availability of charging stations yet.
Genuine question: How many miles do you need to drive in a single day (excluding a once a year event)?
Well I would certainly wait until at least 2025, when virtually every major car company is switching to the Tesla charging standard.
Emily Chang is a great journalist. ❤
Love driving electric and technological advancements! Keep going! Looking forward to see more affordable EV products!🙏
I'm no GM fan, but there's at least some design and soul in contrast to the Cybertruck.
Hillary Clinton did consider Mary Barra as her running mate.
Anything else you need to know?
Vision, Experience and Wisdom...That's the key to keeping a 100+ year old company alive. Great interview and congratulations to Mrs. Barra on a job well done all her sucess!
goverment money
BK again soon
She did nothing but pretend.
vision? didn't see EV's coming | experience? going bankrupt and losing market share and giving up whole categories of vehicles to foreign OEMs | wisdom? not smart enough to make a tech car
@@ChickensAndGardening I love the appearance of the Leaf after the 2018 model refresh. It looks like a normal car with sharp lines.
2:42 This is so cringe...
Stellar journalism. Lol.
Great car.
One of my supervisors has the non EV Blazer. All I hear is they love it.
I get a funny feeling that 60 minutes is behind this whole thing.
GM looks like to me honestly they are trying their best. their recent vehicle design is awesome! their earnings keep beating quarter by quarter. I hope they keep their best in the future.
I love it!! Go Mary! 💪
Tell Mary we need sunshades in the glass roof EVs. The UV tint won’t cut it here in the Southwest.
Totally true. Buying a car from a dealer is a terrible experience. At least from a GM dealer. Never again.
I dare for GM CEO to have a conversation with Scotty Kilmer
"you electrified the whole auto industry....you led, and it matters"....what a joke. and how is she in the automotive hall of fame and elon isn't...insanity.
People should give her a break. How many of us can step up to run a 100 year old car maker? She inherited a mess but the company is in a better place now.
She is a bigger mess.
Bring the Bolt back!!!!
They are, next year.
Consumer : give us cheap reliable cars like Toyota
GM: we have expensive and unreliable EVs
Buybacks are not evil, not sure where you heard that
@@Nick-gj6je
1. yes, they are
2. didn't hear it anywhere
3. with the one exception being guarding against acquisition, share buybacks are using company profits to prop up share price short term and add nothing of value. Spend that money on R&D, capitalcapital expenditures, pay off debt
They said in the interview, they put her in place to be the face of GM for the beginning of its demise as it faced it largest recall and they needed her to go give a testimony.
@@nickwulf why are you against buybacks?
I crashed my Toyota Echo.
It may seem like that has nothing to do with GM or its future, but if Mary and her team don't keep in mind their role in the car market as a whole, they're going to have a tough time in the future. They need to improve their affordability and quality, so that they can have a strong used car market that advertises for their new cars. A strong used car market is what makes Toyota, Honda, and Subaru so successful. The car segment is shrinking every year because GM and Ford decided to focus on crossovers, trucks and SUVs instead. It's only a matter of time before people are no longer able to find an affordable proper car for their daily needs.
it's a cost issue for everyone, people aren't willing to pay $20k more for EV, when a hybrid does 95% of the job, until the price comes down enough, this will continue to be a problem, the automakers need to figure that out
@@danielzhang1916 The average sale price of a car in the US is over $47K. Some Tesla Model 3 and Model Y are below the average sale price, before the $7,500 rebate. Tesla has already figured it out, since Tesla is the only US manufacturer making a profit from EV sales. Tesla even opened up their patents so that other car manufacturers can use them to accelerate EV manufacturing to lower costs, but US manufacturers have not followed.
I love my Chevy BoltEV - except they should have named it the ChevEV
or just ChEV?
Destroyer of Worlds... ev
12:42 The revamped Chevy Bolt? They stopped making it last year. I can't tell you how many people want a Bolt and not an Equinox or Blazer. Is this an old show?
Its due for a new redesign with the newer battery tech. If you did some simple research online you would see it.
She's a horrible CEO, she needs to get fired
She won’t because her dad got her that job
For last ten years, GM stock price only went up 10%. GM lost European market. GM is also losing money and market share in China. At the same time period, Mary Barra's yearly compensation went from $15millions to $29millions. She has been top paid Auto CEO in the world. How does that work?
GM should buy Rivian

So cool to have a female ceo who literally grew up in the company and has done every job from the bottom to the top. She knows hard work and isn't some big wig external hire who knows nothing about cars coming in and taking over the company
The AV market is a potential Trillion $ market for the winners. I'm glad to see Mary and the team going for it.
As an Indonesian, I have more confidence in the quality of Chinese electric vehicles 😊
Tesla is in Chinese
Their electric vehicles are junk, why do you think they are so cheap?! Low quality parts + + Gov subsidies + Bypassing QC standards = Chinese EV
@@MyUniversalUniversity that’s faults. Ford & GM must be Mexican then to you.
1:17 "she is going all in on EVs" selling gas cars does not seem very all in
I visited Japan recently.
That is also because of draconian tax and license laws to force people to buy new cars from politically tied zaibatsu, Mitsubishi, Isuzu...
leaders of the EV race right here folks!
that's why they had to ban chinese evs
Go EV's!!!
in 10 minutes I've seen the same ATT advertizement 3 times...Get real and be reasonable. It makes Bloomberg look greedy, it doesn't do well for the GM brand, and it's frustrating as a RUclips user.
Mary, please, please, please don’t abandon Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. When you are a two car family and both of your vehicles have Android Auto and Apple CarPlay it makes switching between them effortless and relaxing. We are the proud owners of two Bolts and we love what you’re doing except for abandoning Android Auto and Apple CarPlay 😊
The seamless integration of charging stations, navigation and maps is the reason GM has moved away from third party systems.
Apple Car Play and Android Auto are attractive only because the built in systems are terrible.
Tesla and Rivian have cracked the code, GM are well advised to follow. If they are able to which is the $64,000 question.
GM don’t even have $280 billions , which bank would lend such a sum to them ?
They just don’t have the battery supply chain needed to build EV. Also exterior design doesn’t matter much compared to interior function.
The are losing huge amounts of money.

Ev1, 1996. Was a groove retro, car and electric. Hearts broken to see it destroyed!!! Lost opportunity, for retro style, and environmental conscious. ICE vehicle prices are outrageous because GM, Ford & Stellantis can't manufacture EVs at a price the vast majority of Americans can afford... they're subsidizing EV production with ICE profits to the burden of the American consumer. Well done Mary.
Why can't the electric motion motor be an alternator fire for the batteries
All these manufacturers jumping on the bandwagon cause Tesla proved electric could be profitable. Hybrid is the way to go.
