  • Great old amp with lousy old tubes. And some oddities I take care of in the video.

I have a '66 and a '64 (had since new), and neither one sounds nearly as full and dynamic as this one does (they both go boomy when you run up the bass). And yeh. The Tung-Sols. Good choice.

Got one with a 1X15 Weber in it. These are great amps. But get rid of those IC caps!! Good filter caps will last for 20-30 years! Throw that junk!

Would you say the ICs are tone robbers or are they hated simply because their poor shelf life? And what about electrolytic IC caps on the board.. same thing?

@@justin-wz1jw They're just poor quality. A cap is a cap. Tone suck? Nope. Unreliable junk? Reputedly.

Hello. Great video. Why would someone bypass the rectifier tube? There is a 73’ super reverb for sale close by and seller said the amp is all original except the rectifier tube was bypassed. Keep up the great videos.

Cesar Diaz did this mode to SRV. Tighter bass and the amp is more consistent when it gets hot I think.

Did you end up putting a 4.7uf on to replace the 22uf for the speed control on the vibrato ?

I just got a 64 super and the seller unplugged the tubes and packaged them up so they would be safe in transit. The problem is I dont know which tube goes in which socket. Which socket does the rectifier go (when looking at the back of the amp)? Once I plug in the rectifier and 2 power amp tubes, do I have to do anything before turning on and playing? Thanks for the help!

What method did you use to clean the tube pins?

AHH ... "A pack or two of Chesterfields." Anybody else catch that? Smokey bars, I've played more than a few. My mother used to send me to the 7-11 when I got home from elementary school with .35 cents for a pack of those suicide sticks. My mother finally died of congestive heart failure October 2, 1982. I knew, even as a kid, those Chesterfields would kill her; and they did. Beer finally drove my dad insane, so watch your vices. And Jesus saves.
