A lot of disney sequels were originally intended to be shows. Disney would animate the first couple of episodes in a series before scrapping the idea. Rather than throwing out all of that work, they would connect the episodes through some sort of narrative frame (like flashbacks) and release it on VHS as a sequel. That's why Cinderella II and Tarzan II and I'm pretty sure Aladdin II are Like That.

Honestly, Aladdin 3 is one of my all time favourite movies ever, it's like somebody wrote a fanfic and the producers loved it so much, they decided to make it canon
Unironically I liked it more than the original, it felt like it had so much more unique of a plot compared to the rest of the princes and princesses focused disney catalogue to me.
Fun fact: they got Robin Williams for the third movie but not the second, so Dan Castellaneta voices Genie in Return of Jafar. Yes, the Dan Castellaneta who does Homer, and a multitude of other Simpsons voices. In one scene, he legit does the Krusty laugh.

The Aladdin sequels where my entire childhood. I will love them forever, even if they aren't the best. I watched them on VHS tapes I got from goodwill when I was younger. Hearing you say "straight DVD" hurt a little, I won't lie.
I saw the two sequels to Aladdin when I younger. And somewhat recently I found out that the first sequel was setting up the Aladdin TV show, and the second sequel is the finale to that TV show. This is also the same reason for the first and third sequels of Lilo and Stitch.

When I was like 5, I lived exclusively off of this Disney Princess short story films in which Iago was Aladdin’s mate. For the first 10 years of my life I didn’t know Iago was the bad guy.
i remember seeing trailers for an aladdin sequel on the Disney channel when i was a kid but it didn't look like the one i watched years before that and then one day i remembered both of them and was completely baffled as to which one of these movies was real and whether i just thought one up until this day
I'm clearly an old man, cause I can't express how much it bugged me hearing them called "straight to DVD sequels" when..... both of these are old enough they were on VHS. I actually had both as a kid, since Aladdin was my favorite. lol End of the day though, yeah, a few of these are... alright, most served as pilots for their TV series in the day as I understand, which you'll REALLY see in other sequels that are literally 3 separate stories mushed together. The third Lion King you're thinking of is Lion King 1 1/2, which worked as a bit of a prequel and went through the first movie from Timones point of view.
Everyone but me prefers the third one. I think I was won over with Return of Jafar simply because Jafar gets his own song when he only got the Prince Ali reprise on the original and I like it when villains get that moment to shine.

I did know these existed, they just left my mind for whatever reason... by the way, there are 3 little mermaid movies. Yeah, the original, ya know, the good one, a sequel, and a freaking PREQUEL where literally nothing significant happens other than Ariels mom dying. The only really good sequel was lion king 2, that was my jam

When I was like 5, I lived exclusively off of this Disney Princess short story films in which Iago was Aladdin’s mate. For the first 10 years of my life I didn’t know Iago was the bad guy.
The little mermaid 2 Slaps. Also the song "where do I go from here" from Pocahontas 2 is a great song. The movie is Meh. But the song. 👌

i remember seeing trailers for an aladdin sequel on the Disney channel when i was a kid but it didn't look like the one i watched years before that and then one day i remembered both of them and was completely baffled as to which one of these movies was real and whether i just thought one up until this day

I'm clearly an old man, cause I can't express how much it bugged me hearing them called "straight to DVD sequels" when..... both of these are old enough they were on VHS. I actually had both as a kid, since Aladdin was my favorite. lol
End of the day though, yeah, a few of these are... alright, most served as pilots for their TV series in the day as I understand, which you'll REALLY see in other sequels that are literally 3 separate stories mushed together. I've gotta sub just to see you go through these things.
You too, eh! lol I was like, "don't you mean, straight to video?" lol I liked Aladdin a lot too and had the home videos of the sequels. The Return of Jafar was practically just the pilot for the show, which I also religiously watched during its original run.
@@ssjup81 We owned the sequels in video tapes as really young kids, but I only find about the show as a young adult. I mean years later we got a DVD for Christmas with like 4 Jasmine-episodes too when I was like twelve, but I did not realize it was a show, I thought it was just a special, since they named a DVD "Jasmine's tales" (Maybe marketing-reasons). The Garden, Rat, Siren episodes stuck with me.

Edit:I have heard from the internet about Mulan 2 and lion king 2(and I think that there’s a third),I have also watched Cinderella 2+3 and little mermaid 2(at around 7).
The third Lion King you're thinking of is Lion King 1 1/2, which worked as a bit of a prequel and went through the first movie from Timones point of view.

Well, the title is a bit weird, since I think many know the Aladdin sequels. As for my favorite, I gotta go with the third one.

The third one is actually good, unlike return of jafar. And they got Robin Williams back for the third one!
Everyone but me prefers the third one. I think I was won over with Return of Jafar simply because Jafar gets his own song when he only got the Prince Ali reprise on the original and I like it when villains get that moment to shine.
Between 2 and 3, 3 is my favorite, I just don't like the animation of 2, but Aladdin (1) will always be my favorite!
And little did we and Seamus know that it would all start from here.

ive watched all the Aladdin sequels and like, peter pan two and stuff, just cause my grandpa had tons i mean like 4 shelves full of various vhs tapes that we would watch at his house

I'm generally surprised how many people haven't heard or even watched the Disney sequels. I have watched and honestly loved a lot of the Disney sequels. Also my favorites are cinderella 3 and the little mermaid 2.
Why have I seen every one of those sequels? Well my favorites are Mulan 2 and Lion King 2. I actually liked Lion King 2 more than the first one when I was a child

Also Robin Williams didn’t voice the Genie in Return of Jafar.
Did he in the King of Thieves? Because in finnish dub, there is a different voice actor for Genie in the last two and he was not as good as the first one.
