Reason Malta never attempted to expand: It was a crusader state of doctors that was wiped out by the ottomans in the early 1500’s. Aragon ruled the island of Malta at this time & was in personal union with Castile (these 2 merging created modern day Spain). The pope of the time was from Castile & the knights of St Johns we’re back in Rome after the seizure of Rhodes by the ottomans. Only 8 years later the pope decided to grant Malta to the military order. However, the papal state decided to lease the land for basically $1 a year So the military order of Malta doesn’t technically own Malta lol Occupied by napoleon & have never attempted to be recognized in a massive scale since then
When the government of an autonomous entity is a monarchy it's tended to be looked on as a mini-state rather than just an administrative part of a larger federal state. The United Arab Emirates and the Federation of Malayasia are made up of individual monarchies. The individual states that make up the United States of America are sovereign, but between the United States Constitution and the local thirst for federal funds each state has ceded many of its sovereign powers to the Federal Government. Beside the USA, a lot of republics call themselves "federal", but the provinces and states that make up such republics usually have pretty feeble powers compared to that the central government, and nobody thinks of them as mini-states.

5:19 As a New Englander, I can confirm that this describes us perfectly.
More videos like This and in general just More videos pls, Mr Cat
I live in dubai and the way I describe the emeriates to non UAE people is they are basically states, just like the US has 50 states which are basically "countries", the 7 emerites are different but also united under the UAE government
During most of 2021 you needed a covid test and vaccine to enter abu dhabi but neither was required for Dubai. Even when traveling between the emirates. It was like border police at an non existent border.
If you don't own any territory you can't be attacked ;)
Modern problems require modern solutions!
3:58 'Ich bin ein Berliner' translates to 'I am a donut'. Lmao
stimmt
Other " independent" countries with dubious independence:
- Micronesia Marshall and Belau are linked to the US by a " compound of free association"
- Nauru is linked very closely to AUS by several treaties
- MC is considered part of France at many levels ( football for instance)
- same thing for the Vatican/ Italy
-Liechtenstein is associated with Switzerland. Its currency is the Swiss Franc.
-Andorra's rulers are the President of France and a Spanish bishop representing the Vatican
Bro your confusing Micronesia the Subcontinent & Micronesia the Country.
MC? Monaco?
@@shonenjumpmagneto Right

Judging by the borders of Best Kebab I think it could classify as a US state
Ah cause it's a square
You can just sit at the airport pub and watch the planes land. It’s easy to get to from the tram stop as well i believe
The Maldives can perhaps become a cleanfill tip for a while if they sink.
If there is a map of what country uses states (US), provinces (Canada), prefectures (Japan), etc.
Sealand - look at the history.
I still think you need to make it a mission to visit Sealand. You could probably do it in a day trip from your house.
Plot twist: the Maldives has already sunk but they don't want to tell anyone.
I was having a real shit day. Thank you for a little respite from it all.
He literally said "have a bad day bye" at the very end of the video right after i read this within 5 seconds man lmao

Reason Malta never attempted to expand:
It was a crusader state of doctors that was wiped out by the ottomans in the early 1500’s.
However, the papal state decided to lease the land for basically $1 a year
So the military order of Malta doesn’t technically own Malta lol
Occupied by napoleon & have never attempted to be recognized in a massive scale since then

So how can I get citizenship in Best Kebabia?
6:58, so, if you want to walk along the coast of Croatia, you need to walk along the coast of Bosnia too,
Otherwise, it’s impossible...,
Also, why are there two Virgin Islands right next to each other
Yep, it's actually super annoying if you're travelling there since you have to pass border checks which cause traffic jams and delay. Hence Croatia is building a huge bridge around it with support of EU for the past few years
This may be a stupid question, but could you swim around it?
Exactly, why two? I mean if I’m in the Caribbean on some island(s), why stop at two virgins?
@@theboxygenie Haha, technically you can but it's at least a 2km swim through some random sea waters around boats
They're too shy to ask each other out xD
Didn't drew do this? Still a good video idea 👌🏻
Here in the faroe Islands we have our own currency, flag, language, culture, economic policies, unique landscapes etc. But not a country. I imagine there must be a lot of places like this in the world that people just generally gloss over.
Faroe Islands is a Constituate Country of Denmark so in a way you are! Lol.
@9:50 which is ironic since unlike greenland curacou is an independent nation under a crown

Each time I see a video from this channel recommended, I think, maybe this is an interesting video? And each time I watch it and again, he has no idea what he is talking about, he just moves air around aimlessly.
I have no idea what his main channel is

20:31 fun fact: the airport code for Perm is PEE
Yeah the Sovereign Military Order of Malta def wins the title here.
Tho tbf isn't this more of a government in exile situation?
How is 'foreign minister' even a position in a non-country? Seems like whoever created that position in the first place should be demoted
You know in some countries ministers are more common
What country are you talking about? I'm very sure it is one whatever it is I can already tell but what is it?
What if, because we can get computers to do it now, instead of countries being thought of in immediate spatial sense, we make a list of like 150-200 uhhhh parameter thingies like
Group A, land within 75km of ocean, group B, land classifiable as desert, group C mountainous
And then
Land 76-200km from ocean, land near a sea or great lake or bay
Land at sea level, land at _____ above sea level
And so on until every beach in the world is one country, and there are 150-200 "countries" with similar concerns based on geography, climate or whatever.
Because what if we did cultural things online and in church or whatever and this was a totally separate thing from nationalism or patriotism, which would be a thing that reminds everyone that we live on a planet and if A bombs B bc of a mean tweet, the bees will die and then we're fucked.
Maybe there would still be war, river dwellers vs hill folk, I dunno
But at least then we would definitely know that humans are no good and Earth is well within her rights to shake us off like a Taylor Swift ex
Ayeee he showed my current home. Shoutout from Oahu.
I have now just realized how remarkably bouncy this man is throughout this video.
I'm unsure if he's just super excited or really needs to pee
LOL when you were talking about switzerland, you said Je ne sais paz, Which means I do not know.
Am from the United Arab Emirates 🇦🇪 and i can conform this, there are 8 governments in this country and one of them called the union government that does everything out side the country or mega projects in the country it sulf or controlling ministries, but the rest of the seven governments are doing things on their own without interfering with the other like Dubai government cant build anything in Sharjah without the Sharjahs government approval, soo when you walk from Sharjah to fujerah let’s say you will notice the difference, and there are other things too but I don’t have much time to talk about it but in the end of day all governments are working together for one thing is to improve this country
in arabic an emirate is a princedom and an amir (or emir) is a prince; meaning UAE actually translates to 'The United Arab Princedoms'
