A complete cornering of the Talent Market! The two greatest voices in the world on stage in a duet. Josh Groban with that rich deep Baritone singing across from a woman that is the undisputed GOAT of all Theatrical performers. Separately they are brilliant. Together they are unparalleled. They should consider doing an extended tour together. LIKE ABOUT TWENTY YEARS!! Too much talent for one stage.
In a further comment, Imagine Lea Salonga as Christine Daae and Josh Groban as Raoul in the actual Phantom production? It would be a Ridunkulous Pairing. A complete Slam Dunk!! Both still have the look of a young couple. With Stage Bearing impossible to duplicate in another pairing. If Groban and Salonga weren't already selling out arenas across the globe, they would mesh perfectly. For gilt edged proof, watch Groban sing Bring Him Home from Les Miserables. Heart Wrenching. Lea goes him one better with her impossible rendition of Memory from Cats. It trumps even the great Elaine Paige. Even Sarah Brightman can't match the Crystal China clarity of Salonga. Had Salonga been Caucasian rather than Asian she would have portrayed every role of her choosing! Les Mis became the Monster it was because they looked past the fact she was Asian. That's why they call it acting!! She portrayed both roles in separate productions of the greatest Theatrical Epic of all time. Fantine and her Daughter Eponine!! Groban is reaching the age where he could play both the Phantom and Jean Valjean. Either or both would be an absolute Grand Slam. A Home Run every time out. Unfortunately, both are so brilliant separately they probably won't pair together. Yet, this great video shows what a pairing we are all missing.
Ms. Dana, I'm glad my wording rated four question marks!! Ridunkulous was meant to convey a ridiculously easy Slam Dunk. A can't miss. That's what Josh Groban and Lea Salonga are. Every time out. Of all the Artists I've heard, none surpass the vocal gifts of Groban and Salonga. Grobans personal best, in my opinion was in a special appearance on the show Ally McBeal. He sings the song "You're Still You." Written by the fabulous Composer Ennio Morricone, with lyrics by Linda Thompson. His rendering of the song is simply exquisite. Whoever is reading this, please watch that video if you haven't already seen it. I had a chance to see Salonga in Bethesda, Maryland last year. A true Bucket List event. What I like about both( and Groban in particular) is how "Fan Friendly," they are. Watch Groban in a concert video and its nothing for him to sit with small children and sing to them. A Gentle Soul whose talent is exceeded only by his Tender Heart. That is what makes this pairing so unique. Fabulous Artists. Even greater people.
As an additional comment, " ANYWHERE YOU GO, LET US GO TOO!! Judgiing by these comments, everybody wants to see more than a cameo by these two icons. I think that is more possible within the next five years as both consider expanding their horizons. Not merely touring solo, but pairing in a Broadway Musucal. Any Broadway Mhsical!! If one song together incites this type of reaction, why not twenty? If not Les Mis or The Phantom, some new production with a great song writing team would light up Broadway. No pairing as talented exists in current Musical Theater. Perhaps not ever.
Watching Josh Groban sing the song "phantom of the Opera was disappointing that their voices didn't have that chemistry that would make that song remarkable to listen to. When Josh and Kelly Clarkson sang the duet together, their voices and their chemistry singing together was just beautiful to listen to and to watch the faces of the audience feel their tone to that song would go right through you and you would remember that song being great. I only hope that Josh and Kelly could sing another remarkable song together.
