Thank you Darius, this is really a rare treasure. I feel the late emperors still knew about the Flavian origin of christianity, and I would love to take my time with these mosaics and discover the kind of shenanigans that they already pulled in the gospels and Josephus' companion books.
@@DariusAryaWell although Julian doesn't seem like the most rational emperor ever, he may have had something to add. I suspect these works may fall to the lost parts though. Thank you for your work!
I had the good fortune of visiting this church complex and the catacombs beneath it several years ago but our guide didn't point out the pre-Christian mosaics which are magnificent. Thanks, Darius, for highlighting them and for bringing us this enlightening video.
Thank you, we have visited this place, it isreally amazing. What a pity that the part of mosaics was destroyed in XII c. And additionaly bonus: there are really a few popeple visiting this complex (St,Constanza and church St Agnese), so you can sit and admire mosaics in silence.
Thank you for this video Darius! I cannot help thinking of Ravenna. Costanza must have been not only a transition from the Pagan world but a precursor and influence for Ravenna.
This is awesome and fascinating, even for Darius's videos! I had to rematch it over and over. The mosaics styles are almost like the artists who created them gave a continuous set of signposts showing us how imperial tastes changed as the empire contracted and Christianity started to dominate over the older religions, and educates us 2000yrs later that in Rome itself the end of the empire and rise of the new religion wasn't a textbook sudden stop, but evolved.
Amos 5: 25-26: "Have ye offered unto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel? But ye have borne the tabernacle of your Moloch and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves." See "images...which ye made to yourselves"? This is a transgrassion of a commandment, Exodus 20: 4: "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:" "Jesus" means "Jehovah is salvation". This is the name of Christ real christians are hated for. "HalleluJah" means "Praze Jah" (Jehovah). Psalm 83: 18: "That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth." The problem is Devil runs the world. He is lier and murderer. That's why we've got the Gospel about the God's kingdom. Jehovah would put everything in order. The dead will be resurected and we'll meet our beloved ones again! :-)
I visited both the church of St Agnes and the Constanza monument my last visit to Rome. wonderful hidden treasures! The mosaics and porphyry sarcophagus truly wonderful.
I obviously need to revisit that church and pay more attention to this. We went there for the catacombs, which were, by all means, interesting too. Thanks for showing us and explaining.
These videos are incredible! Your visuals are great, your presentation is really good and the facts are awesome! The way you put everything together does a really good job of keeping me engaged in what you are talking about, with my attention span, that is great for me. You also have a very soothing speaking style....tone of voice and pace are actually really peaceful to me. I love these videos! Great work, keep it up!
Wow, thank you! I'm trying to find my voice in these RUclips videos- different from my tv work- lot more off the cuff and informal. I thank you for your comments. It means a lot!
@@DariusArya I didnt know that you were on TV, but that explains a lot. Excellent content, blessing to be able to see....and....this format is better than the typical TV format.
Beautiful, calm and informed delivery...highlighting beautuful art and architecture. I love imagining what later generations would have seen of classical and later Rome. Especially what my ancestors in Britain would have seen then brought back to the Anglo-saxon kingdoms if they had visited Rome in the 5th-10th centuries. Also, the geometric influence of Roman mosaics on later Islamic art.
1:17 that ceiling! OMG what did I just see? I know that you described it, but I cant even believe that someone created that! That is so beautiful! What a work of art!
Dr.! This is really an astoundingly informative video for me. I was aware that this church existed, but had never seen as much of the interior as you have included in this video. The layout and aesthetics of the central sanctuary/altar part of the church seem rather eastern or almost Orthodox to me - at least, judging from the video. I wonder if it “feels” that way standing inside of it? Again, thanks for all that you do. It is all so very informative and enriching.
Thanks very much for taking the time to answer my question. No doubt, you are incredibly busy. So I sincerely appreciate it. With all best wishes, Gregory Kinsey Florida, USA

Looking forward to it! Truly incredible sights.
Wonderful as usual. Thank you, Doc. May I ask if you have made a video about the Bath of Diocletian? That should be a long long video 🙂
Thank you !🙏
Those mosaics are beautiful! Thanks 🙂
Glad you like them!

Yes, thoroughly enjoyable!
Truly two of the most magnificent churches of Rome!
Special and mostly unknown to the public at large!
Another great video thank you!
My pleasure!
Darius, wyfe and I will be in Rome June 4-8. Love to hear some Darius stories and memories of Roma and surrounding areas.
Those mosaics are amazing
Very very thanks!.
Thank you for this video Darius! I cannot help thinking of Ravenna. Costanza must have been not only a transition from the Pagan world but a precursor and influence for Ravenna.
I’ll go there soon!!!
Incredible!
This is like a time travel to late antiquity.
How lucky are we to be able to see this mausoleum and the mosaics in perfect condition!
It's a real treat to have this window into 4C Rome.

Thank you. Yes, there is so much going on here.
That's pretty cool, I didn't even know it existed. Btw where can I contact you for some of those private tours (I guess you meant that)

This is insanely cool, thanks for the great presentation and showing many parts of Rome that aren’t often represented
Thank you very much, I'm bookmarking the mausoleum for my next trip to Rome.
Hope you enjoy it!
Haha, I have stayed in Rome many times, just a few steps away from S. Agnese, in the guest house of the Teutonic Order in Via Nomentana 421.
Thx 🙏🏻 so much for your detailed explanation…..Rome here i come for a fourth time!!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Sadly I have never been to this Church
Did they keep the "paganism" art to a minimum for political reasons? - Magnificent
It was a period of overlap and crossover!

What happened to the 144,000 prophecy? Why did you guys sell all those Brooklyn properties? Broke and losing members!

So how does one visit this place? Is there a fee?
Were the walls always bare brick?
I'm speechless !!!!!
It is uniquely well preserved!
@@DariusArya And also, the perfection of the beauty of it completely blows me away. Thank you.
George Costanza?? Who knew?
I doubt Diocletian would have approved of Festivus either, though the feats of strength might have appealed to him.
thanks
Great.
Always looking forward to your videos. So good so informative and new!
Glad you like them!
Beautiful ceiling mosiacs! I wonder if they were reconstructed or were they found intact?
Mostly preserved
I recall seeing a picture of a cat a domestic cat attacking what looks like a duck in a mosaic.Brought home to me the realism of life in Ancient Rome.
Yes! A great image!
Another good video. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Were the walls originally bare brick or were they plastered?
marble and plaster.
