      Honestly it breaks my heart that she went though the pain of loosing her child. She truly does deserve happiness cause she really loved her child. I just want Isobel to be happy!

    I’ve always loved Lord Merton for so many reasons. He just always was the most romantic and gentle fellow. He deserved so much happiness and I’m so glad he found it finally with Isobel.
    I’m so glad Lord Merton got away from his toxic family. The way Larry and the rest of his brothers treated Isobel always made my blood boil.

    You know despite the constant one-uping between Mrs. Crawley and the Dowager......their friendship is absolutely genuine and wonderful.

    "Am I?" You can see the actual moment of realization. Her eyes show it. In that moment Isobel's eyes widen and she knows The Dowager is right. Then the panic sets in that she's loved him for some time and his time left is fleeting. Her acting is top tier.

      My grandfather was born in 1919 and was like that until he passed. Informal was button down shirt with knit tie, corduroy pants. Not at all uncomfortable and always put together.

    I love that the Dowager Countess And Mrs. Crawley became such good friends. Downton Abbey was such a universe unto itself. All the characters, both upstairs and below stairs, grew and changed over the course of the series. Amazing writing and characterization.

    I loved how Violet encouraged Mrs Crawley to follow her heart .. even with all her doubts ..
    She truly did her good .. that was a sound advise .. never feel ashamed or back down from what your heart is calling to .. even if everyone and everything seems against it.
    No one should kill the spirit ..

      Remember, Violet was upset at the prospect of Isobel becoming mistress of Merton Hall, mainly because it would mean that she'd be seeing a lot less of her. But in the end Violet realized that her friend's happiness was more important, and from that point she had Isobel's back.

      Isolation is a factor in elder abuse, esp if they're living in his house. Someone outside that little unit needs to step in to stop the abuse from escalating.

    I loved watching the slow evolution of the friendship over the years between the Dowager Countess and Mrs Crawley. Maggie Smith and Penelope Wilton played the roles created by Julian Barnes to perfection. I loved all the young romances he wrote for the show, but this was still my favourite storyline of all for Downton Abbey.

    There is just one thing that I truly love about little Miss Cruikshanks and it is this: If I was going to choose a wife for the despicable Larry Gray then she would be the one.
    We are hearing them making a consolidated stand on the issue of Lord Merton, bu just think how she will rant and rage and tear Larry to shreds as soon as the door has closed behind the Dowager Duchess and Mrs Crawley!

      @@SS11660 I think they were planning on getting it all. The money too. The estate won't pay for itself at all. It's just a money pit. Unless Larry brings in a huge income, he'd just have had to sell it before long, and they both knew it. Hence the absolutely venomous looks at Lady Violet from Miss Thing.

    So many parts of this storyline are so good, but I especially love Larry deflating at 6:55. He knew that once Isobel was provoked into demanding what his father already wanted, social norms be damned, then it was all over.

    The entire cast's storylines were, for myself, either loved, or loved to hate, but never boring. However, I enjoyed the relationship between Violet and Isobel far and above all the rest.

      I feel the same. The little tiffs that Isobel and Violet have from time to time make moments like this one even more powerful. The way that Violet put that despicable Amelia Grey in her place at the end is the Grantham version of "Nobody puts Baby in the corner."

    my favorite love story of Downton Abbey, just such beauty and love. Especially in that last scene, Dickie practically acting like the girl in the relationship, being all giddy and swept off of his feet by isobel

    Truly love this bonding moment between Isobel & Violet.... it has to be the best of the best! The older ladies of the Downton Crawley Clan are the real beasts!!! Mary is so like Cora in that aspect and Cora so like her mother-in-law Violet and Isobel so like headstrong like the aristocratic family she married into!!!

    I love the way the relationship between Violet and Isobel changes and evolves over the course of the show. The scene where the Dowager admits to Mary what Mrs. Crawley’s friendship means to her actually made me a bit misty eyed.

    You tell em Violet!! And I did not realize pernicious anemia was considered fatal back then, now days they can treat the B-12 deficiency and if you have taken care of it early you can live a normal life!

      My maternal grandmother, mother, and sister all had pernicious anemia. Easily managed now, but a little more than a hundred years ago it was a death sentence.
