Thanks for the shout out! Wow, I wasn't expecting that.
And Save Me is by far one of my absolute favorite songs by Skillet! It's about fears--for John, it's blindness; for Korey, it's confinement/small spaces; for Seth, it's falling; and for Jen, it's drowning. They're calling for God to save them from their fears and set them free. Does that make sense?
As far as the preference that they'd sing "Lord, save me," far be for me to criticize you for that; I'm not doing that. However, I'm going to take a stab explaining why I, as a long time Skillet fan (Panhead), think they don't come out and say it. Like other commentors have pointed out, they're a band of Christians more than a Christian band. Now, I'll guarantee you (as far as I can) that they are definitely singing to God. I'm as totally confident of that as I can be without having God's view into their hearts. Their earlier music (pre-Collide album in particular) has a lot of that very obvious spiritual/religious wording where they do say "Lord" and "Jesus" right in the songs.
That being said, part of their ministry is reaching the lost, in having a message that unbelievers can jive with. Not that they're ashamed; far from it. (John's particularly vocal about he believes.) But they're trying to reach more people not by watering down the message but by speaking more generally.
I guess Jon Cohen really pointed this out, too. I definitely agree with what Jon said there. The podcast he mentioned is CooperStuff. John gets really, really vocal in that podcast about his views. Personally, I love it; he's a really passionate and honest guy.
Hey, can you guys give me a link or two to your stuff? I'm having a hard time finding it, and I'd really like to listen.

The scenes are representative of the different fears of the band members. They do have some songs where they call God out specifically, such as White Horse. I like how John is able to write songs that are uplifting and just speak to people in general. I would classify them as a band of Christians rather than an actual Christian band, i think the difference is that less people are turned off right away and more willing to listen to the message. When you listen to him speak at concerts you can tell that his main intent is to make a connection with the audience and then let God take it from there. He has a PODcast where he deep dives Christianity.
Some of their rockers you should check out Legendary, Feel Invincible, Not Gonna Die, I want to Live, Ignite, Finish Line....
Can you please turn the mic up a little, was kinda hard to hear y'all sometimes.
Fun fact: Jen the drummer/singer was only drumming for about 4 years and about to give up when Korey Cooper (guitar/keyboard/production/everything) and other friends convinced her to try out, and then Korey had to convince John Cooper to give Jen a chance.

Thank you so much for the very interesting information and letting us know about the mic. We'll make some adjustments and make it a bit louder.

I greatly appreciate your insight! I don't know that much about the band or the members. I really like their music and definitely a fan now. If I had already heard more song by them. I'd definitely probably be on the same page as you. Cause the more I learn about them, the more impressed I become. Thanks Jon, for the comments that they are "Christians in a rock band and not a Christian rock band" that makes so much sense cause we have secular songs too. And I feel like that's what I'd like us to be as well cause non of us are perfect! Thanks for watching!
