    Finally an 80s-ish look that isn’t only masses of fluorescent colours/neon. So many beautiful looks from this era also incorporated earthy tones, whether they were natural or dramatic looks. I’m glad you have captured this in your tutorial, definitely reminds me of the makeup worn on the runway and I love it! Your content is always as informative as it is enjoyable xxx

    Why is everybody complaining about listening to Charli's story as if she is interrupting Lisa? Lisa was asking her questions the whole time and I am sure she brought her onto her channel for this video for people to hear her story (as well as view this lovely makeup tutorial). I am sure if Lisa truly did not want her to speak, she would have instructed so beforehand.
    It sounds rather insensitive for you all to ignore this young lady's beautiful story and say, "omg shut up, Lisa is trying to do your makeup." I am not a makeup artist, but if they are anything like your hair dresser, I am sure they love to chat with their clients as well. As long as the client is following their instructions on when and how to tilt their head and not move their mouths, I don't see it as a problem (again, especially if the artist is asking you the question).

    We are all responsible for changing the standards in the fashion industry. We, the consumers, hold the power for ourselves and for the future generations. I've worked in the industry for over a decade and nearly all the models I've worked with (even size 0, including men) have had stretch marks and/or cellulite. We've just been so accustom to seeing photoshopped images that people think perfection is the standard.

    • @stanbalo
      @stanbalo 5 лет назад +16

      as much as we are brainwashed into liking what we see in a magazine etc., the real solution is to have positive self esteem and discernment. if one has low self esteem, you always create problems in your mind and no amount of diversity and inclusivity in media will change that. positive self esteem should come from inside you and not from an external factor.

    I'm so glad that Lisa mentioned the history of contouring - it's so interesting! If anyone watches glamourdaze's YT channel (a vintage makeup channel), you can see the women doing baking and contouring. There are so many makeup tips and tricks. As Lisa is a cosmetic historian of sorts, I would love to see her do some historical videos on the evolution of makeup. Watching her contour was really inspiring. Not to take anything away from others, but it was nice to see someone go in with such a light hand.

    Charli, thank you for sharing your story and what an inspiration you are to so many woman. You should be so proud of yourself and your accomplishments. I'd never heard of Charli Howard before but god, she's so beautiful, and after lurking around social media, I'm so happy to have been exposed to her. I've always felt similarly in that I definitely don't fit a typical model body, but I'm not plus sized/"curvy" either, so to see her body, especially after struggling with an eating disorder myself, really means a lot to me, and to see her championing bodies of all types, not just the two standards, makes me super emotional.

    Lisa I've always LOVED the makeup (and fashion) of the late 80s/early 90s (i.e. 1989-1992). To me it felt austere and modern but also beautiful and timeless. Earth-toned, classic and neutral yet quite glamorous, a "romanticized realism" if you will. Anyway, great video, beautiful, highly versatile look. I have a short bowel syndrome and severe underweight and as much as I try to explain to people the severe and at times truly dangerous health issues I have due to that, many afterwards keep replying "But I bet a lot of women are jealous" - because that "look" of BMI 15 which almost looks like you come from a concentration camp has become NORMAL and what one should strive for.
    It took me 18 months to gain 3 kg with a strict high calorie diet, supplements and 3x weekly 90 min light muscle strengthening training plus daily physio exercises but I still prefer that to parental feeding through a tube. I can tell every 500 g of gaining strength. I fret getting sick or no availability to the food I need for I can then easily loose 3 to 5 kg a week. And people think I should be happy to have this condition ! I hope women realise soon again when overweight actually starts, and what is a healthy normal range. And strive for that.

    I mostly don't wear make up, but I totally love this model style. Brings back memories. As a young girl I tried looking like Cindy Crawford or a least like a model-me and I spend hours and hours in the bathroom. What a fun it was. Mum didn't think so... XD
    Thank you for throwing me back. :)

    My goodness, with that polka dot shirt to bring it full circle, this look brings back so many memories. I would definitely date this look somewhere between 1988 on into some of 1991. Those are absolutely the eye colors everyone wore, and they are the only shades I owned at the time. If memory serves me correctly, for drug store eyeshadow options, we had earth tones, blue or purple lol.

    Thank you for this, it was nice to sort of being reading old magazines and gawking at old-school supermodels. You really made me go back in time to my teenage years!
    Also, finally someone with actual street/beauty cred pointing out that contour and highlighting were techniques developed with theatre and the beginning of the movie golden era! I’m not alone, I have Lisa Eldridge with me on this one!

    By some freak coincidence I have my makeup done almost exactly like yours today! Soft brown eye makeup (a bit heavier liner because I like it that way) and red lipstick. Great vid. Great look. Great model. 👍

    WOW - I feel like this is my only thought whenever I watch your makeup tutorials, I am always completely smitten by the magic of even a simple look you do, and find myself shaking my head in amazement. Also, after years of watching your videos I guess it's safe to say I'll probably never get over the softness of your brush strokes haha! And of course Charli is stunning, and actually reminds me of a friend of mine, even with the voice, so cute!

    I remember when contouring was known as “shading” I was a teenager in the late 1980s and that remains my favourite style, but I also love the 1940s and 50s with the real glamour queens. Great look and *u*k 35 inch hips. My own body image is screwed up from the pressure that only thin is beautiful

    A few words on this era in makeup : ( I’m 55, so I lived it) - good to use bronzer for warm glow now (we all used tanning beds then, really), blush was used as contour, we didn’t use fake lashes, we loaded on the mascara, going for length over volume, separating each lash with a pin (again, really), our go-to eyeliner was a crayon-type, and we did not wing - a big, round eye was it - yes, it was a neutrals/browns a la Bobbie Brown makeup, (using a gold on lid only for evening) - the only color ever used (sometimes) on eyes were navy in the lower outer half of bottom lash line to bring out whites of the eye - early brows were super full like Charley’s (Brooke Shields’ influence) - great job Lisa, this more modern interpretation is so much better than it really was!!!
