Absolutely love what Steve is all about, I pretty much had the same experience, I no longer suffer with the trauma of alcoholism or addiction, and yes I found my God through doing the steps of AA, I work steps every day and yes im a better man for it. I can't believe how hard it is to pray or mention anything about God in the beginning, my kids could see my being physically sick or fighting with people, stealing, crying, they knew what drink or drugs I was using, but to get on my knees and say a prayer to my God I would shut the door so no one could see. I had my last drink on 23rd March 2019, I am a grateful recovered Alcoholic and I just wanted to say thank you for this positive message . God bless you 🙏 ❤️
@bee3092 being honest it depends on how you decide to live. Ounce you're used to a way of life. It's harder to reclaim your freedom. I'm fine but there are still hardships. As long as your trying, your on the right path. Also find your passion. Hobbies make new friends, and new passions. Might even be a new career. God bless you 🙏

I hope you were successful in quitting because I can tell you first hand it only gets harder and worse. If you ever need someone to talk to (it can sometimes be easier with someone closer in age) about anything I would be more than happy to talk. I wish you the best.

I work for a mental health service with people with issues with drugs and alcohol. I also teach addiction classes and 12 steps. I'm a Godly man and a great full believer in Jesus christ . What Steve says about God is something I felt, but couldn't articulate till watching this video. The very word has power, whatever it actual content may be. It lives in my heart and helps me be a little better each day
Btw if it is the Dave F that im thinking of from texas that was friends with Mark Houston, wow are you in good hands! From Mass here and have a couple sober living homes, would love to connect!
@@joshuawilliams8523 alcohol abuse syndrome is a fact. There is no such thing as alcoholism. Like communism and leftism. It doesn't exist. It has never existed.
When is this disease officially diagnosed by a doctor, by the way. Can it be diagnosed? And what is the testing method and where specifically do they find it. Answer: none of these things happen like they do with real diseases. Why? Because it isn't one. It was better for insurance purposes and help more people in the beginning to lump it all under the disease umbrella. And we still buy it. But think about it. If you actually had a definitive disease, you would be able to tell me the doctor who diagnosed you, when, under what testing method, etc. Anyone who says they have the "disease" of addiction, and I thought it myself at one point, flat out cannot name those details. Because it's not a disease. And if it is, then it is entirely different from every other disease known to man and is in a class all its own and has very vague quazi religious groups (cults) that meet in church basements, and THATS the way you combat this very real MEDICAL disease. Right...
AA has a 5-10% success rate, and it is the voices of that 5-10% heard extolling its virtues. AA is vehemently being debunked by professionals in the field. If you are struggling in AA. IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT. You are not "constitutionally incapable of being honest" with yourself. AA's idealogy can be damaging for some and even deadly. If you're one of the 5-10%, my "hat is off to you," but please do not encourage struggling, vulnerable people to get into the program more. 5-10% is pretty low odds to bet someones life on!
Thank you for sharing your perspective. It's important to recognize that different approaches work for different people, and not every program suits everyone. There are many paths to recovery, and it's crucial to find what works best for each individual. If you or someone you know needs support or more information on alternative recovery options, please call us at (844) 590-0403.
Only 5-10% of the people actually do the work in AA thats why the raw data might not look good which isnt a fair representation at all of how powerful the 12 steps are, think about how gyms have huge memberships but how many actually do the work? Schools are full of students but how many actually do well? The ones that put in the work thats who
If these 12 step programs and rehabs want more credibility they would do well to temper down the obvious thing a lot of people see, which is everybody saying the same things and showing no sense of individuality or independent thought. Do people realize not everybody who goes through substance abuse issues has the exact same fucking story? Its a problem when these meetings and rehabs attempt to not just tell their own story, but to try and lump me in as destined to have the exact same story. Drug use or no drug use, other people dont have the right to attempt to write my own story for me. Also if it truly is a real medical disease then treat it as such. Dont say that then turn around and say the solution is a religious, groupthink cult. It makes zero sense and anyone with any critical thinking skills can see this plainly.
Thanks for your input. You're right, individual experiences with substance abuse vary greatly, and a one-size-fits-all approach doesn't work for everyone. It's important for recovery programs to recognize and respect each person's unique journey.

I am 30 today is my first day to recovery
The most important day.
I did see so many AA relapsing in the last 40 years. So they helped me to stay sober and not stop to go to the meetings.

I just used the Alan Carr book. I also hate the hitting bottom concept in 12 step groups and I believe in the spectrum as opposed to disease concept.
Appreciate your perspective, thanks for commenting!
It's not a concept it's a fact. Alcoholism is recognised as a disease by the world health organisation
@@joshuawilliams8523 alcohol abuse syndrome is a fact. There is no such thing as alcoholism. Like communism and leftism. It doesn't exist. It has never existed.
Relapse is not a part of the disease. The disease is ambivalent. Relapse is a part of recovery and the various different treatment approaches.
Thank you for sharing your perspective with us Bede, it is very appreciated.
