I did notice the 2 on the left side of the stage. Bass and one guitar started to show more personality though. They were headbanging together during Megitsune and Headbanger. Saw them in Vegas and Los Angeles, and I think they were having more fun.

They actually interacted with the fans. Its just that they don’t really have the chance to get up front and have to stay in their spot. They did what they could and they rock! Just wish the BM team would let them let loose like the old days.

    Great review, thanks!
Let me disagree about what you said about the eastern vs. western Kami Band. I believe it depends on the personality of each musician. Ohmura and BOH are more expressive, Leda and Isao tend to be more static (so to speak). In the western band the most expressive is probably Barone, and he's sitting playing the drums (keep an eye on him next time!). They are probably told to behave like that (in addition of the masks thing, which we dislike). Anyway, we perfectly know who they are.
So glad you changed your mind about "BxMxC" and partially about "Monochrome". To be honest, it happened to me as well. So, 👍👍‍and 9.2 sound awesome! 😁

    • @jaegermeister798

lmao I am here for more Mrs. Heretic BABYMETAL reactions - she’s so excited and it’s great ^-^
I saw BABYMETAL on Saturday night in Strasbourg (France) in a really small venue.. and next two nights are London Roundhouse Mon and Tue 🦊
I agree that BxMxC is far better live than it is on the album - I usually geek out on SU-METAL’s vocal gymnastics during that one.. and live with the pit.. it feels so heavy
I agree with you on kami-band vs western kami-band.. I just want jp kami-band to be everywhere again.. they’re all virtuosos. The first BABYMETAL gig I ever went to in 2015 half the attraction was Takayoshi Ohmura on guitar. I mostly like Anthony Barone’s drumming in the western kami-band.. but nothing wrong with Hideki’s!
I used to pay equal attention to the band and the girls.. but lately I mostly pay attention to the girls if it’s a western kami-band gig

Great review, thanks - we've all been waiting for this (sorry David, I was really interested and wanted to know your thoughts, but it was Mrs H and her impressions of seeing BABYMETAL live for the first time given she doesn't know them as well, who I was looking forward to hearing most).
Oh yes please get the reactions posted that Mrs H has done as soon as you can - and I really hope you can both find or make the time to do those other reactions to 'BABYMETAL Death' and the other songs Mrs H didn't know as well.
On the songs blending together and everything happening so quickly so it feels like they've only just started and then the show is finishing ... this is BABYMETAL's ability to distort and compress time. Don't forget they have a mint flavoured time machine.
'Believing' is an interesting song - only the second song they have released which is entirely in English and does not have a Japanese version ('From Dusk Till Dawn' was the other). They started working on this song 5 years ago and it does seem to have a very specific message that may be aimed at a certain faction of the fanbase about change and not going back.
On the Kami Band (West), I don't know if it was different on the Dethklok tour, but on the European tour they are clearly all rocking out, holding up the kitsunes (especially Clint Tustin on bass and Anthony Barone) and interacting with the crowds quite a bit, joining in with telling everybody to "get low" during 'Metali", trying to match Moa and Momoko during 'Headbanger' and so on ... I'll see for myself tomorrow in London anyway.
I do have a genuine question, I am not trying to be clever or anything, but I don't think you said anything much about how with Dethklok having the main visual focus being on the cartoons, the band are basically in shadow throughout - obviously it is not the same, but is it so different to the visual focus being the girls in BABYMETAL?
Is that not being an issue with Dethklok where it was with the Kami Band down to expectation or could you see the band rocking out anyway (I've never seen Dethklok to know)?
Anyway, as I said, great review I really enjoyed hearing your and Mrs H's thoughts and impressions and I'm glad you both had a great time. Keep up the great work.🤘

Sounds like you both had a great time and hope you get to see them again, certainly sounds like Mrs. H will be ready to go again! 😆 Babymetal live is really what they live for and gives the full experience of what they give to the fans. Super high energy and top notch fan interaction, we really are The One with them in their shows! Looking forward to Mrs H's reactions, get them uploaded David!! 😆
Just a quick add about the Kami band, I agree with you. They sound amazing but I also hate they just stand there, I could be wrong but I sometimes wonder if they are told to not go crazy on stage because they want the girls getting all the attention on stage maybe? The Eastern Kami Band was SOOOO energetic (BOH the bassist was my favorite) and helped pump up the whole performance with not only the fans but I think the girls feed off of it also. 🦊🤘

  • @jaegermeister798
    @jaegermeister798 Год назад +14

Babymetal Death is their signature intro; they always perform it at the beginning of every one of their shows with the exception of special concerts. The reason they stopped it for a while was mainly because of Yui leaving and they had intros themed for the Metal Galaxy album. The version of BMD they did during the Legend 1997 concert was obviously for a very special occasion to mark a significant point in BM’s history.
It’s shocking you haven’t seen Believing, but that is a fault of your fans giving you these recommendations.
I get your perspective on the Kami band. It’s just looking at it broadly, Babymetal started with just the girls and no band at all. Hell, they started with just the music on backtrack and no one else on stage. No actors or anything. The Eastern Kami band will forever be a part of what Babymetal is, and they certainly helped carry the shows early on, but the girls will always be the center of attention and should be. For all we know, sometimes the musicians don’t want to be the center of attention but still enjoy playing live. But to your point; both Anthony Barone (drums) and Chris Kelly (guitar) are very expressive, even expressing agitation when the crowds don’t get involved in songs like Metali. Maybe things will change, maybe not. I have just come to the conclusion that maybe there are more moving parts behind the decisions around the Kami bands stage presence than we the fans might realise. It is at this point I will appeal to the age old saying, Only The Fox God Knows.
I thought Dethklok’s set was hilarious AF. Never really watched the show, but the unbridled vulgarity of the performance was comically great. The only thing I was disappointed in Dethklok was the fans sucked some of the energy out of the air when it came to Babymetal’s set. I went for Babymetal, but when Dethklok came onto the stage, I was rocking out harder over my seat than a lot of the fans even in the pit. So to me, Dethklok fans have no excuse for not participating in some crucial parts of Babymetal’s set when they were blatantly told what to do.

Great to see how much you enjoyed it. Mrs Heretic really had the full Babymetal experience. Maybe 1 thing, having prior song knowledge.
This was my preferred order for BabyKlok tour, because at some shows DethKlok was first and their were little kids for Babymetal in the crowd. it's not ideal to say the least.
Glad Mr. Heretic got to see both, It's clear he has a soft spot for/has a sentimenta attachment to DethKlok.
The criticism for the western Kami band.. I have 2 things to say: as I understand the musicians for DethKlok were not visible for a large part of the show and audience and I'm certain they play to a track as well (all 3 acts have to align to other things on stage). As I understood it Jason Richardson has also played a lot, if not all, the instruments he plays with live.
Also I think the Eastern Kami band did not start out like that, they first wanted to make sure they can play the songs without making mistakes. My guess is this is where the western Kami band might be.

They will be back next year for the Sick New World Festival in Vegas in April. Bring me the Horizon will also be there which bodes well for maybe another performance of Kingslayer perhaps? I hope so as that was such an epic collaboration.
Which Oli only performed Kingslayer the first time live together at Nex_Fest in Japan. So it really would be a great opportunity here i think. Show is sold out unfortunately but still managed to get some resell VIP's. Which cost me a f*** fortune but it's worth it.
So many bands that will be there and will be a blast. It assume you enjoyed your first live show though. It is the only proper way to experience Babymetal. Vegas will be my third but first festival. So definitely stoked on that one. 🤘🦊

Saw them in February with Sabaton but it felt a bit off then since most people were there to see Sabaton so the hype was kinda off… This time they felt way more comfortable on stage! Babymetal Death is a kind of Japanese word play. If you introduce yourself in Japanese you use the phrase "desu" what means translated "it is". This desou is spealled quite similar to the English word death. And so they took the song originally as a word play in order to introduce themselfes. The show that you reacted to was recorded in Japanbefore their first world tour. And I don´t want to know what would happen if you make a concert in the US where you crucify a 15yo girl and blowing off the head of holy Mary live on stage. Amuse didn´t know so much what they where doing in 2013 since Japanese don´t have much of a clue about Christian religion. They have Shinto religion mixed with Budism. About the production it raises with the amount of tickets they can sell. 8000 in RUclips theater is not nuch against 15.000 in Budokan, 20000 in Makuhari Messe, 35000 in Yokohama or 55000 in Tokyo dome.

I am a little bit surprised at David's comment on Western Kami Band. Chris, CJ, Anthony and Ryan did a great job in Japan shows to have some interaction with audience and, I believe, they did as well in the North American tour. Your score 9.2, however, is fairly high. That pleased me. 😄

    ⚡ 💕 🍑
Mrs. Heretic, 'BABYMETAL Death' is in your native tongue.
All of the lyrics are in English, although there is a pun where they use the English word "Death", instead of the Japanese word "desu" (pronounced "des"), which in this context means "I am", or "We are".
This song was their usual opening number for many years when Yui was still in the group.
It was revived once Momoko Okazaki (Momometal) became an official member, rather than just a supporting dancer last April.

I think from what i have heard from other people who saw the show everyone agrees he is an amazing guitarist but his show was lacking because it was only him on stage. I was wondering if you had your wife do more reactions to BABYMETAL. Look forward to those. Were you there on the 11th or 12th? I was at the show on the 11th. I feel the Vegas show was a little better but I ran into a bunch of superfans at the LA show and they made it a lot of fun. There was some fans from Japan giving out free keychains made from wood they made with the girls images burned into them. Very cool and kind of them. I still need to see BABYMETAL in JAPAN 🤘🦊🤘
Oooh I wonder if Mrs Heretic gets a little emotional like a certain hubby did on his reaction hehe.

The role of the Kami band has been scaled back in recent years and given that it's been consistent across both Kami bands, I can only assume it is an intentional creative decision by Koba to de-emphasize them and have all the focus on the girls. It's a source of frustration for a lot of fans, because Ohmura, Boh, and Hideki are much loved by the fans and seen as an important part of live Babymetal performances.

ok i am glad you got to see the show. first i can understand why Babymetal got a lower score than Dethklok because the reactor was biased(lol) and admitted it in the beginning. however i am glad you got to see that Babymetal is so much better than studio or even video. i saw them in 2019 at The Forum in LA. there the production was a little more but loved it. seeing them in Japan is on my bucket list. first the one comment of the band i can understand but you should also understand in a smaller stage where the girls need to move around so maybe they had to stay in one spot. just offering a different opinion. the song Believing is the one song that they change at each show. some got this one and some got either Mirror Mirror or Maya. most of the shows basically had the same list except that song that changed each show. in Europe now they have done Brand New Day also. also when you mentioned Su and her voice that is fine. but i love how you can tell she sings live and have to give her credits for how hard it is for her to dance and sing together. even Moa and Momo all the choreo for every song and you also mentioned the choreo but there again when you see them live you have a different opinion of them after it. they were doing a show basically every three nights. i still say Su is the best front person out there now to do what she does and sound better than the studio version. the other thing i love about seeing Babymetal live is how alike they are to the studio version. i have seen some bands that i like a certain song and then hear it live i can't stand it now because it does not sound the same. but all said i am glad you got to see them and hear them live and understand them better now going forward.

Others have already commented about BabyMetal Death, actually it is BabyMetal Desu. Desu, means 'to b'e in Japanese. Certain parts of Japan pronounce desu, with a soft U, so it sounds like the English word, death. The actual very simple lyrics translate as: We are BabyMetal.
BxMxC is one of those songs for me, is saved by the live performances, as you experienced. Several songs on BabyMetal's albums are so much better performed live, without the studio shenanigans applied to Su's voice. Plus the whole mixing of the song is improved, in my view.
I have always wanted to see BabyMetal in Japan at one of their epic live shows but not in the mosh pit. I would want the best seat in the house for that. However, the tours at smaller venues, such as you have witnessed, you need to be on the floor!
It is a shame about the Western Kami Band, I thought they did interact with each other and play to the crowd. A shame you that took the edge of for you. I do agree with you.
It is pleasant to know it is not only me, who gives you a thumbs down David. 😀
Not knowing anything about Dethklok it is difficult to make any comment. It is good they played songs that you hoped they would do.

I never heard of Dethklok before they were announced as co-headliners with Babymetal so I had little knowledge of what to expect. In the first show I saw in Minneapolis, one of the red lights on stage was flashing right into my eyes continuously. That, coupled with the fact I knew none of their songs, made it frankly a little annoying at first. By the second half of their set I had gotten used to it and I really enjoyed them in the second show in Vegas. Over all, other than that light, Dethklok was a pleasant surprise for me. Babymetal was incredible throughout both shows of course.
I wouldn't say the Kami band stood like statues. I did see some life in them, at least where I saw them, but it was nothing like we've seen from Boh or Ohmura. That doesn't take away from the experience at all for me but it would have been a nice surprise addition if I could have seen more interaction. So I mostly agree with David about it. Very few fans like the masks as far as I can tell.

I'm in a inner conflict because I would love to see them without the masks alongside the girls a bit more upfront in the big shows in Japan but at the same time after seeing them with the masks, which were improved, (it seems they wear new masks compared to the beggining if I'm not mistaken...) I actually love the masks, Idk to me personally in a way it kinda makes them stand out visually contrasting with the girls, they look badass and matches with the costumes of the girls and the whole thematics very well, I have this kinda of vision about the masks. Maybe they could just use paintings again but Idk...
I don't have a problem with the masks being honest but someday I hope KOBA will just say: “Okay, you guys have been ranting all this time on me, every day and night on my Twitter about these damn masks, I'm done, that’s it! I’m done, I don't care anymore, WESTERN KAMI BAND you guys can go all over on this tour, just do your thing, dance if you wanna dance, whatever.” 🤭🦊

I know you're probably going to get some flak for the Kami band comments but you know where I stand DH. I've always been of the opinion that the bands energy is a representation of the audience towards the music. They know when to dial it back for the more somber songs but they're mostly on stage having a great time. If the band is mostly just standing there as still as a statue it takes away some of the enjoyment for me because like it or not they're part of the act and they're going to be seen if you put them there. I do remember them putting fox hands up before one song and headbanging at one point but the other 90% of the show they sucked some of the energy off stage.

Question: You went on a rant about kami Band West just standing there like statues. How in the world did you not get onto dethklok? I went to the Orlando show, they were in the dark so you couldn't see them, there was basically no crowd interaction, the band didn't "rock out" or move around and the entire focus was the cartoon. It seemed more like a dethklok fanboy reaction. I'm just saying the lack of consistency on calling out 1 band and not the 2nd who were vastly less interactive with the crowd seems off. I do think your expectations for Babymetal were probably a little higher based on the videos of their all out shows in Japan. Unfortunately the venues they used were to small for all that stuff.
I think Babymetal has figured out how to turn an 1hr 10 mins into around 20 minutes feel time. The amount of energy they pumped into the crowd was unlike any other band I have seen, possibly causing time to bend. Lol. I would like to see them in a larger venue with more of their full set. Orlando was pretty big, 10,000 sold out, but a amphitheater. So wouldn't really work there either.
But anyways, I'm glad you enjoyed the show. They're a fun band to watch.

    • @THEDavidHeretic
      @THEDavidHeretic  Год назад

The difference between the two is exactly what you said. In Dethklok, the band was playing in the dark, you couldn't see them. This forced the focus onto the video screens for the visual, thus making the musicians stage energy and stage presence a non-factor. With Babymetal, the band is in plain view for everyone to see. As such, they are a big factor in stage energy and stage presence, which to be honest the Western Kami Band had none at all. That is the difference, so my critique stands.

    • @sycogator

As a wise man once said:
"I'm a big advocate for showmanship... All those people who spent their good hard earned money to see you, not hear you are getting cheated... if people just wanted to hear you play the song perfectly why not just stay home and listen on your computer? Why are they bothering to come see you play live? Because they want to see a show. So many bands just dont get it." David Heretic, Babymetal Death video.. 😂
Dethkloks show could of been replaced with music videos from your computer. If the band wasn't there, it would have looked exactly the same except for the people blocking the view of the screen.
"If all They're going to do is stand there, then why have them, put them under the stage. Don't let them up on stage being a buzz kill". David Heretic, this video.
(If you can't tell, I have watched some of your videos a few times)
I will say, the Kami band is pretty much in the dark for the show, unless you make a point of looking at them, they blend into the screen. They're only get lights for solos. The only lighting they get during the show is overflow from the girls so, they are about as noticeable as Dethklok if you're wanting to compare the lighting. Dethkloks show was just lazy to me, sort of like going to watch a Lazer light show with background music. You could of had a cover band put on that show and nobody would have noticed.
Anyways, keep doing what you are doing and let Mrs. Heretic watch BM Death.. lol

Considering that BM has a wide range of fans age wise, and children are brought at the show, people have been arguing that bands like Dethklok and Wargasm (who are definitely PG13) are not ideal as bands to pair with BM.
