speaking as the owners of two 40' high cube containers, you must uses some method to insulate the roof/ceiling to prevent condensation that will drip water all over the inside of the container. We used the DIY spray foam from Lowes. It works perfect. The spray foam also cools the inside surface of the ceiling by >30 degrees in the summer. In the cool weather, the cool metal will continuosly condense any excess moisture inside. During the warmer periods it also helps to coat the roof exterior with a white reflective roof coating. Just my 2 cents.
Welding Caution: - When welding galvanized steel like what your trailer is made of, you need to grind off the galvanized coating before you weld. Just in case you miss a little always provide good ventilation. Zinc oxide vapor is not good to breath so be careful. It is great to see you planning everything out before you are in the middle of doing the work. Smart move. Glad to see your generator start right up and have enough power for your welder. Good luck on the build.
I wasn't aware that a "conex" container was galvanized, in fact, I would be very surprised if they are.... The hinges and door locking hardware are but the roof and walls, don't appear to be galvanized, at least not on the 5 containers that I own. Just sayin'

Al. you are going to need triangle welding magnets for sure. It's what holds everything in place on surfaces that clamps are not available. You'll need four on average and two at least. And don't forget the sawzall with medal blades and oscillating tool with medal blades and sanding attachments... and your squares and a few types of gloves. Magnetted levels. :)

With the amount of work you are doing outside at the new property it might be a good idea to build yourself a battery box for the tool and camera batteries. excellent recipe on a cold like it is here in the UK i need a good hot meal... i'm in middle of making a 'stewpie' basically its a corned beef stew in a deep bowl with a thick pastry cover, i dip the pastry in the stew as i sometimes do with bread... and spoon out all the meat and spuds and peas, carrots to eat as normal, makes a good out door meal when im out on land...
They chickens need more light to lay, 14 hours is ideal but I'm getting 7-9 eggs from 9 hens (easter egger's from Hoovers we got last spring) and I've just got an led light on a timer to come on early in the morning and shutoff after daylight. I think they're getting 12-13 hours or light right now. Edit: I'm in southern Maine, similar day length for you guys
Sandra Westley I believe Al doesn’t believe in altering what nature should do, I did suggest this a few videos back, because I watch a couple in Alaska, who obviously only get 4 to 5 hours day light a day, so they put a light in the coop at 7 am and they have not suffered too much of a dip in egg supply, but they also feed them protein like fly larvae and mealy grubs, I think that also helps.
Also! I’ve found that if I hatch eggs earlier in the year and have pulleys laying their first year before winter hits, pullets will often lay through the winter happily, no extra light needed. Hatch them later and they usually won’t start until spring. (Example, hatch them in feb or March, six months later is August or sept and they’re laying and ur set! I’ve tried just doing this two years in a row and i arguably have more eggs now than during the summer haha)
Irwin C clamp vise grips and bessy clamps are a must. Soapstone! I like to bring scraps of flat plate to clamp on anything I'm making flat if I dont have a table to build on or saw horses. Chisels and punches are handy. Always think where tour tacking, so incase you need to cut it you can with grinder, cheers

@@LumnahAcres 👍 Al, you are an incredible young man. More and more I find myself following your example, saying grace and appreciating the simple things life has to offer. Thank you so much.
a couple of magnetic squares to hold your steel in place would be great to add to your kit, grind the paint off before welding, most are lead based so ventilate and not breathe in fumes, use a fan inside
Gooood mornin' Lumnah family! Oh, that cabin's gonna be so cosy when you're done! 🙂 I'd probably build another one further down the track, too. Bet you do!
You may want to get a set of oxygen acetylene torches. Take it from a fellow granite stater. The fire wrench is always helpful. Plasma cutter is handy if you can swing it. Definitely get torches.
I switched feeds to henhouse reserve, make sure there is enough for .25 lbs per hen and give scratch/grubblies. I'm still getting 18+ eggs a day. I was getting almost zero until I switched how I was feeding, I had to realize they aren't getting anything from free ranging with the ground frozen and so much snow.
I should have said that I think your videos are excellent and am envious of your lifestyle and am looking forward to your progress on the new property. Best wishes for the future from all at Wigan in the UK.

@@tiffany02020 This is the same thing the Stivers do. They get them early spring and then also feed them protein
That dish looks delicious Gina! Well done! 👍😁
I can't wait to see the window openings. It's gonna be great!
Excited to see the container cabin . The potty is a long way from your container. . Gonà be fun for everyone
Al what you need is a plasma cutter..
It would cut through the container like butter...
That is exciting! Can’t wait to see what changes you guys do!!!
Good morning ALL! 🙋 ❤&🙏 for everyone
Gooooood Morning
Loved that beautiful close-up shot of the chickens!
So excited to see what you guys do!👍🏼
Love you guys God Bless you all
Al, it a good idea to stud your openings with steel for support just like you would for a stick built house.
Praying God’s sweetest blessings on your efforts in 2021. Your family is inspiring to all who watch. ❤️✝️🙏🏼💕🤟🏻
I really like those magnetic holding blocks for welding and fabrication.
Your high tunnel looks great. Just imagine, fresh carrots right out of the ground for dinner. So much snow!!! Way too cold for me! Place looks amazing. Love chicken pot pie! Be safe and well. Hugs for all.
I would put some center blocks under the Shipping Container. It will put less stress on the sides where you're cutting.
Hope sure is pretty! Good luck to you all these days are hard on all off us move to your land as soon as you can!
Good morning Lumnah family ☕️ Happy Friday, have a blessed day
Happy Friday
@@LumnahAcres 👍 Al, you are an incredible young man. More and more I find myself following your example, saying grace and appreciating the simple things life has to offer. Thank you so much.
It very nice to think though before you get into it ,especially when you haven't done it before God Bless
Make sure at lowe's you get some fuel stabilizer and gas line antifreeze in the cold weather it really helps
Nice yummy looking supper! Can't wait for the container build!
☺☺☺
a couple of magnetic squares to hold your steel in place would be great to add to your kit,
grind the paint off before welding, most are lead based so ventilate and not breathe in fumes, use a fan inside
A beautiful Friday to you!
Yes it is. Good morning
Gooood mornin' Lumnah family! Oh, that cabin's gonna be so cosy when you're done! 🙂 I'd probably build another one further down the track, too. Bet you do!
That’s an awesome idea!
You may want to get a set of oxygen acetylene torches. Take it from a fellow granite stater. The fire wrench is always helpful. Plasma cutter is handy if you can swing it. Definitely get torches.
A great place to find steel and other metals for small projects is at your local scrap yard

Gooooood morning from Georgia!
You can chlorinate the rainwater in the water tanks ... for livestock, gardens, flower beds ... great system! Cheers!
Al, need your welding magnet 90° plates to hold stuff so you can tac it
After watching Gina use the veggie chopper, I bought one. You could get a sponsor for that.
Also, Al, you are a very talented builder. It is fun to watch your many skills. You are doing an amazing job on your RUclips videos.
Good Morning, Lumnahs! I’m excited to see the build start on the container. Stay safe & warm. The pot pie looked delicious.
Blessings, Love & Hugs from Vicki in Ft. Worth, Texas 🇺🇸👍❤️🥰🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Someone may have said it already but welding magnet's get at least four you will find will be very handy 👍👍. 🇨🇦 Craig oh there are diamond impregnated cut off wheels more money but last much longer.
Good morning! Dinner looked good.
Happy Friday morning
I'm hoping everything goes smoothly with the windows. I've heard of nightmares in structural strength after cutting holes in containers. I'd make sure all your angle iron is in place before cutting windows or doors. That Chicken Pot Pie looked amazing! Blessings to all.
Goooood morning To the Lumnah Family, Greetings from Naples Florida. Not sure if you are welding your beds into the container but, a good idea is to weld U channel into the container so you can slide the beds in or out. My cousin did that for removable shelves in his unit. God Bless you all.
Thanks
Gooooood morning from Georgia! I’m between Savannah Georgia and Jacksonville Florida.
I believe he said he would leave the beds unattached so they could be taken out and used for camping.
@@nahnisjourney1406 Good Morning Georgia, with the U channel he can slide a sheet of plywood in between the two channels (1 on rt, 1 on left) then put the cots or beds on top. They can be stacked like bunk beds to conserve room. 😃
Also Al dry fit the metal to be welded to the window then take a measurement so then u will know how big to cut your opening uses magnetic levels also
Love the clucking of the chickens as they eat. Good memories as a kid.
Hi from a -3 in England. It was a -5 in the night. I'm getting excited to see the new off grid builds. I was thinking, could the windows be riveted with the screw holes. ? I dont do these sort of things so maybe way off track. Thanks for the videos. Stay safe all. X
Thanks for showing more of the Homestead today. I enjoy seeing more of the animals and garden. Don’t forget that in the past you’ve given the chickens grubby‘s in the winter and get more eggs 🥚
