I think one of the main reasons this turned out better than the last several Will Ferrell movies of recent years is the fact that he also co-wrote it. His track record with writing his own stuff has been pretty strong (Night at the Roxberry, Anchorman 1/2, Talledega Nights, Step Brothers)
She didnt even sing them lines. It was an iceland singer that did the singer parts. So dont given Rachel Mcadams credit for the singing because it wasnt her. Will ferrell however did sing

They should of went further with the accident comedy at the end instead of the tear jerker serious ending. That scene when they crashed and got up in perfect unison to finish double trouble was hilarious!

Well, the thing is the Eurovision has always been like the movie. Many of us watch it just to have some good clean fun. Think about it : to win this contest, each artist needs to make a song that can be liked by every other country. That's not an easy thing to do, so it's often safest to make a fairly basic song with a catchy tune and lyrics that can't spark any sort of controversy whatsoever. Also, the plot of the movie is grounded in truth : many countries don't send their most famous singers because they don't actually want to win. There's no real proof of that but it's a very widespread theory.
Very well put. I was a little sceptical going into it, but I loved the film and they got the tone just right. Will Ferrell really did his homework, but apparently his mother is German so he's grown up with an understanding of the contest. I think in most Americans' hands it would have been "hey, I found this funny contest to rip the piss out of it" but Fire Saga was done with affection.

Last night I watched this movie for the first time. Today I watched it again, and after that I kept watching the songs performed by Ferrell and McAdams. Sigrit is adorable in the movie. As pure as a child, romantic and talented. And Lars believes in his dreams. Actually, their dreams. Another one on my favorite movies list.

That's the point.. Lars took a long time to realize that Sigrit's love was more important than the contest. So, he gave up and asked her to sing her song even knowing that they would be disqualified.
As a Brit, I love the Eurovision. This movie spoofed it in a very affectionate way. Although it doesn’t need much spoofing.
The Eurovision Song Contest is already a spoof of itself and has been so for the past 20 years. Some are aware of this and go along with it. Others are utterly oblivious to this and take it very seriously indeed.
Seeing this trailer makes it a bit less painful that we couldn't have Eurovision this year. Can't wait!

Last night I watched this movie for the first time. Today I watched it again, and after that I kept watching the songs performed by Ferrell and McAdams. Sigrit is adorable in the movie. As pure as a child, romantic and talented. And Lars believes in his dreams. Actually, their dreams. Another one on my favorite movies list.
