    Great tutorial, this brings back a lot of memories. I use to know my TS-10 inside and out but these days I have forgotten a lot of it. I was heavily into building my own sounds. I actually have four TS-10s now and will never sell them. Nothing else has anything close to the rich sounds you can get from them.

    • @theaudioeng
      @theaudioeng Год назад

      .... Amen .... 😌🙏..... never selling mine, for the exact same reason, and I've got loads of vintage & modern up to date Tech synths - TS-10 STILL shines through. Ensoniq boyz did a marvellous job at this workstation era 🏆🙌

    • @Abruzzo333
      @Abruzzo333 Год назад

      Lots of digital synths can make equally rich sounds or better. A Kurzweil K2000...nevermind the even deeper K2500,K2600...Also the Kawai K5000, the Nord Modular just to name a few.

    • @Me-sr9gn
      @Me-sr9gn Год назад

      @@Abruzzo333 Sorry but that is rubbish and seriously what is your point, all synths can have a rich sound but the Ensoniq's go beyond rich. It's not just a richness it's more than that. I have had all of the ones you have mentioned and wasted far too much money on plenty of others that I could have just used a good VST for and none off them have the body of richness that the VFX’s through to the TS-10s have, or the SQ80... why did I sell that. They also have one of the best sounding effects systems ever made which is why a lot of people don't sell there Ensoniq DP's. I have a good card in my PC for VST's that does great things and has really good adat but it's so crystal clear that it seems to strip sound away so I send it back through an ASR. Manufacturers these day are so hell bent on having the cleanest sound possible that they are striping sound away. The Kurzweils were just as thin as the Roland's of those eras, great sounds but just not there and lacked the presence of the Ensoniq’s sound. I ran my VFXsd with an EPS16plus and still run my TS's with an ASR10. The difference in sound is the very reason I went to Ensoniq’s and I still haven’t found anything that has there sounds presence. I do have other gear and a lot of them are recent but they are just different so I use whatever I know will do what I want and the old Ensoniq's get used alot because of the rich and full presence in their sound. I would like to get another K5000W. That’s one brilliant engine that Kawai should have developed further. Such a waste when they decided to stop making synths, they could have done so much more as I'm sure Ensoniq would have if they hadtn't been destroyed by creative.

    I had one of these. Only synth I ever had that would overheat and shut down. The vaunted poly aftertouch required too hard a key press so I could never use it.
    I also had an SQ1 which had better transwaves but I traded it for the TS. I regretted it.
    16 step hyperwave implementation was much inferior to Korg wave sequencing.
    I actually took home 2 TS 10s, had to return the first because the ESP chip was defective.

    OUTSTANDING video, thank you. I'm contemplating spending $ on a TS-12 near me, shouldn't be buying stuff right now but I love deep and old digital synths / workstations and this really looks amazing. I did briefly play one years ago and was very surprised by how modern it sounded at the time. I think you've made my mind up anyway. Have been reading the PDF manual over too, what an excellent book. We've really lost the ability to make good manuals for products these days, only good one I've seen is for the little Arturia Microfreak. Anyway it's a pity the TS-12 don't have poly aftertouch but if I can fix my ESQ-1 I can't midi them together. Main disappointment for me looking at the TS manual is the lack of resonance on the filters. Even Bob Yannes' SID chip in the C64 had multimode resonant filters. Have you found that limiting at all? I'd enjoy making a sound from a normal waveform and a pre-processed resonant version of that waveform and with the complex architecture of the of the TS I could no doubt cross fade between the resonant and non resonant versions with the modwheel or channel aftertouch :) Anyway thanks for the effort on this video, the folks over at Ensoniq would be pleased if they were still there :)

    • @RoshiAi
      @RoshiAi  Год назад +1

      Hi RP?! Thanks.
      The earlier units by Ensoniq (Mirage, ESQ-1 and SQ-80) had a Filter with Resonance. Anything after that does not....except for their last unit....the Fizmo, that one did have a resonant filter.
      I think Ensoniq missed out on something but they did put a resonant filter in the TS effects though...but yeah...it's an effect.
      Also be aware that the Sample Playback Engine and the Synth Engine are two separate things in the TS. Sample Program editing therefor is limited.

    This is a lovely & inspiring tutorial Robin, thankyou.I have watched it & your other Ensoniq demoes many times. I have a question for you or any other TS10/12 owners if thats ok? I recently bought a TS10 & I cant get patches into it via midi/ Sys-Ex. I use SysEx Librarian & have used it for years without issue, but no matter what I do I cant load my patches into the TS10. I have backed up my patches several times, but can not load them back into the TS10. Am I missing something? The manual says that only Sys-ex needs to be set to on in the midi settings in order for the TS10 to receive system exclusive data ( patches.) The midi in port is working fine with note in from other keyboards.I would be grateful for any advice, thanks.

    just thinking back, toggling btw the upper and lower banks on the old Mirage sampler seems those in between presets weren't really labeled on the floppy disks. They were like the "leftover" sounds of sampling, Transwave may have been an fruitful accident. akin to granular. Still it's cryptic programming..

  • @anthonycrook1987
    @anthonycrook1987 2 года назад

    all parts of the sample(wave) of the original recording of instrument’s note, multiple snapshots of the sound which can be added, time modulated, FX’d into to great moving pads and also to beef up standard preset sounds that have life and movement to them. basically when choosing the category of vowel and constant tones in the menu you could spend years on programming. really one sound has all sounds, if you dissect and granulate it enough.
