Yes it is linear because both variables have power one.

(3/x)-(2x)=1 is not linear, but I don’t understand why. My book says it’s because it contains the reciprocal of the variable. Can you explain?

Yes its non linear because look at the variable in denominator that is having power positive 1 but if you take it above it will be negative one so negative powers are also treated as non linear.
