Scavenger Type EP28: Replacing an EVAP valve on a 2003 Honda Element Code P2422
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 10 фев 2025
- The P2422 diagnostic trouble code is an indication that the vent valve of the evaporative emissions control system (EVAP) is stuck closed. ... If the EVAP vent valve is stuck in the closed position, fuel vapors will be prevented from flowing through the vent valve and into the engine.
If you would rather order a new one from Honda I recommend this website.
www.hondaparts...
Here is the part number and description.
17315-SCV-A02 "Filter, Dust - Honda (17315-SCV-A02)"
Finally a video that actually shows what's goin on down there. Thank you!
Thanks! I hope it helps.
HUGE THANKS! was going to get charged $500 to have this done at dealership. Ordered the part put the car on ramps crawled under and had this done in less than 10 mins. NO engine light now and its been 40 miles with the new part in. Seriously follow this gents actions and you can do this with 3 screwdrivers and an L set of pliers.
warning to all please make sure you use safety glasses. Lots of rust and debris came off the bottom of the car in this area. If i didn't have glasses i would be at the eye surgeon getting stuff removed from my eyes.
Good stuff. Glad this worked for you.
Thanks idk why nobody showed this video as good as you
Thanks! Some of my videos are pretty junky but I think this one Proves that I can do a good instructional video if I don’t rush it.
Thanks for doing this video. Had the P2422 code also. Didn't really appreciate that the new part was about $110, but I guess on the bright side the OEM Honda part was actually less than the one aftermarket evap valve I was able to find online. Your video really made this alot easier for me....... I appreciate it !
Glad it helped. It's not a hard job. Honestly, as new Honda parts go $110 isn't to painful.
Clint I have to do this on my 2005 CRV. Thank you so much for this video! I looks like what I presumed would need to be pryed in terms of the tabs but the video nailed it home!
I hope it’s helpful. If you don’t over do it with the plastic tabs I think you’ll be fine.
Getting ready to order the part! Thanks to your video I’ll have the knowledge to repair. Very detailed video!
Good deal! You got this.
Thanks again for this video. The part came in and got it done this Saturday. Thanks to you no more code and I can get my emissions test!
Thank makes me so happy. Hurry up and get it tested before the next code sets.
Thanks for this. If you have an AWD Element it's not quiet as easy, the rear diff gets in the way of the top right tab.
I bet you're right.
Thank you finally wow your right the others don't show anything..you sir helped and saved me!!
Glad I could help
Another good video Clint. Mine's also an 03 with 250k on it. No codes yet... but I know they're coming. Keep up the good work.
Honestly, mine was very poorly maintained and it sat for a few years before I bought it so..
Got this code now will replace gas cap first then order this part... Will see thanks for showing
That will fix it sometimes.
Thanks for you video i all redy took everything a part and clean spider webs and keep getting code im going to replace this good luck with you projects.
Glad I could help
if u want a good tip on this engine ;) ,the Vtc on the left side of the engine need cleaning and in the back left of the engine will be the vtec soleinoid clean him or juste change the screen gasket,it crack over time and lead to other stupid malfunction, and without forgeting the little screen under the powersteering pump and the tensionner get real dirty over 150k/mile and the pvc valve if ur oil consomption is high, other than that this engine will bring u everywhere u wanna go ;) dont forget to adjust ur vavle every 120k/miles, it will go past 400 000miles easy (i own 6 E right now ;)
Thanks
Nice Clint. Even an old guy could do it,, maybe. ;) Thanks.
You can do it!
Well done. !!!!!!
Thanks!
Thanks for this great video.
Glad you liked it!
Awesome, thank you!
Sure!
Thanks! I am having the exact same issue on my Honda great angles
Did it work?
@@clintsearcy3252 Hi, I’m still waiting on the part to arrive but I’ll update here when it does!
update, I replaced the valve, got the same code, replaced the sensor, and just today, I got the same code dang, what a journey
@@carlosd7717 which sensor did you replace?
@@clintsearcy3252 The pressure sensor that was on the charcoal canister right by the evap valve. I decided to take it to the mechanic and get an evap diagnostic done. It turns out my charcoal canister was contaminated with gasoline :(, still waiting on the part to replace it though.
Hope this helps me on my 06 CRV had the P02422 code pop up.Its winter time to booo & brrr 🥶
Me too!
I been having just the gas cap sign come up. No actual coded. Replaced gas cap still returns. I guess I need to deeply inspect the filler neck next?
It can't hurt.
I noticed you replaced the gasket on your gas cap in an attempt to fix p2422. I guess that didn’t work? Has the code come back after you replaced this ? I’m in the same boat with the P2422. Been driving it for 8K miles with the code on and it’s time to fix it for good! Thank you!!
I ended up replacing both the gasket and the valve. The error code is set when the pressure in the tank is wrong. My code hasn’t come back since.
Did you fix it?
I got a Honda CRV 2006 AWD Have a code P02422 is this the steps you think I should take?Appreciate your feedback,.One suggestion I got was changing the Vent tank pressure sensor & canister purge valve. Thanks for any suggestions you have available.Ill check back soon to see if you reply.Happy New Year!
That's another part that can cause that code. I have never replaced mine.
Great video, as always! A month after replacing the vent valve you posted a video for p2422 replacing a gas cap. Did replacing the vent valve not fix the p2422 code? Did the gas cap fix the issue? Was there another solution? I’m asking because my 04 is giving me this code.
The code never came back. But the gas cap gasket is another thing that can lead to that code so I figured I do a quick video on it.
Thank you sir
I hope it helps.
I Have a 2006 CRV AWD and Code P02422 the steps you took in this should I follow the same?Im assuming so but assuming gets ya in trouble sometimes lol And if so can you help me find the part number I’m struggling to find it.Thanks in advance
I'm not well educated on CRVs but here is the Honda number for that part.
328:491LE55
I don't have any codes come up but while I'm pumping gas the nozzle keeps shutting off will this help stop that or do I have an entirely different problem?
I cant think of a way that this issue would cause you to have issues pumping gas.
Wich comes first: Gas cap replacemente or purge valve? Final solution?
Well, the gas cap is a lot easier. So maybe start there.
Hi Clint, great video. Would this evap valve being stuck cause issues with fuel mileage? I have this code showing and will be changing out the valve. Also looking for ways to improve my fuel mileage. I have a 2008 Honda Element EX. Thanks, Mike.
The best way to improve MPG on an Element is to keep the motor at or below 3200 PRM, run stock tires and remove things that cause wind drag like a roof rack and get rid of excess weight like the rear seats. I can get about 26 MPG if I stick to these things.
Hello friend.. I have a 05 element ... When I fill up my gas tank it shakes and fisfires at start for like 3 seconds then runs fine.. could this be it?? I did spark plugs and coils plus injectors and throddle body and still does it. Please help me with advice 🙏🙏
I can't say I've ever encountered that one.
That's a great video thanks. Do you know the part number of the valve?
17315-SCV-A02
i have 05 crv my problem is no one is manufacturing that part i notice the element is almost identical but has a extra hose my? is there any way to make it work with crv?
I got mine from the junkyard.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Do you have to disconnect the battery before you replace the valve?
I didnt.
@@clintsearcy3252ok thank you
Thanks
No problem
Could this cause a fuel smell after driving, not inside, but parked?
I never noticed a smell.
👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks
This the same as code p0497? Cause I did changed the EVAP canister Valve on the hoop but still get the code p0497
For that code I would start with the purge valve under the hood. Here's a video I found that shows you where it is.
ruclips.net/video/gvv7P9_PIbM/видео.html
Did the check engine light turn off?
Yes
Hi Guys, I have the same P2422 code, but it is not possible to find new part in Europe, do you have anybody advise, where can I buy it? Thanks
Oh, that's a tricky one. You may need to order it from the US.
Thanks for posting. I have a 2003 Element. Do you know if this repair would fix a P0456 code that my car has ??
Thanks again.
Well, it's could help. So could replacing the gas cap gasket. The 456 code means you're reading low pressure reading in your evap system. The first thing I would do is unhook the battery and tighten the gas cap and see if it comes back. Start with the cheap and easy stuff.
@@clintsearcy3252 thanks for the quick reply. I just got my Element back from my mechanic and the gas cap was replaced, with an after market one. I actually prefer Honda parts IF I can afford them. 3 days later, and the code is back again. So, I’m gonna say gas cap wasn’t it. Guess I gotta keep looking. Thanks.
@@djwak59 That's why I push junk yard parts so much. Something like a gas cap is OEM from the junkyard and costs almost nothing. My next move on your code would be this valve.
@@clintsearcy3252 thanks again for quick reply.
After watching your video, I’m sure I can handle this job. I’m gonna do bone yard part too. I replaced a used blower motor for my car that cost me $20. Works great and easy replacement too. Thanks again !
hi i have the code 2422 autozone tell i need to change purge valve.not working . still have the code , should i change the evap valve ? please help i have honda crv 2013 thanks
The AutoZone guy is mistaken. The Honda CRV code for the Purge Valve is P0443. The 2422 code is for the EVAP vent valve so if your CRV is getting code 2422 I recommend following the procedure in this video. Even though this is an Element I believe it's very similar on the CRV. Also, check your fuel cap and make sure it's on tight before changing any parts.
@@clintsearcy3252 thanks now im just waiting for the part . i hope will fix the problem when i change the vent valve
Hi have the new part and replace it have drive around still have the same code any other recommendations? Please
@@zhangtiger9651 Carlos D in the comment replaced the canister itself, Here this youtube you are watching. Search in youtube P2422 Honda acura. The vid show clogged canister located where vent valve go into.
I am having the same p2422 code on my 2013 accord. What would you recommend I replace?
What is difference between Evap valve and purge valve ?
Ones under the hood and the other is between the rear wheels.
Does this code ever also have a small EVAP leak code with it? I have this code and also a small EVAP leak code. I'm wondering if my vent valve is stuck close but also leaking while it's closed.
I'm not sure.
Must be nice to work on an Element (or any car for that matter) of that age and virtually NO chassis rust.
I really feel for you folks up north. I had a 97 Accord for a long time that came from somewhere up north. I had to replace brake lines, power steering lines, gas tank ect... Every nut and bolt was a battel to remove. I still loved that car though.
Was just going to say that! So miserable working on my new england cars all my life
@@anthonytorrey Southern Ontario is not any better.
Difference between vent valve, evap valve and purge valve ?
EVAP Canister Purge Valve - The most common issue that causes the P0441 trouble code in your Honda Element is going to be the vapor canister purge valve. When it goes bad, it typically causes issues with the vehicle’s idle speed. This is especially true right after you fuel up. It’s really easy to replace. It's located under the hood.
The 2422 code is for the vent valve is stuck open. That's what we changed in this video.
@@clintsearcy3252 I have the same code for my 2013 accord (p2422) should I change the whole canister ? And use my current sensor n solenoid or just replace something else
My car turn off when driving not sure if it's this code that is the reason
This code should not make your car shut off. I would start by looking at the key switch. They go out a lot on Hondas.
Looks like an alternator issue. Will do some test
Thank you Sir, I have a 2005 element and just get the code P2422 can you tell me where did you purchase the part on this video.
Great question. I have added all the information you will need to the description on the video.
Thank you Clint
Can the old one be cleaned ??? And put it back. ???? You are using a used one. !!!!!
I've never done it but I guess it' worth a try.
And vent valve
I did!
Thank you Sir, I have a 2005 element and just get the code P2422 can you tell me where did you purchase the part on this video.
Hi Warren. I bought mine from the junkyard. If you would rather buy a new one I have added all the information you will need to the description on the video.
