While Bobby is a plethora of wisdom, experience and knowledge, Coco is amazing at drawing that out of him. She’s a great interviewer with an insight that leads the conversation brilliantly.
The first time I heard of Chuck Leavelle was when he turned up on tour with the Stones in 1989-1990. The next thing I know, he's all over Clapton Unplugged. It was a great thrill to see him with the Stones on their 2002-2003 tour, which I caught in Denver. He seems like a genuinely good guy. It is neat, as a guitarist, to hear this or that track was written in such and such open tuning. My number one Strat is in standard and then the others are in open tunings. It opens a whole new world of playing to explore a new tuning. Which reminds me...I saw a video earlier that someone had posted of you two playing in a pub in Austin a few years, and you were doing "Keep on Growing." There was a point in that when I was like "Hey...Coco has some real guitar chops there!" Great job!
Hilarious little story about the guy with the wire who is steady when the wire is live, but shakes when it's off. I'm sorry some are offended, but as Larry The Cable Guy would say, "That there's funny, right there!"
I was in my late teens and saw Chuck's band, Sea Level opening for Jefferson Starship in Miami Fl. when the Starship was beamed live to some rock awards show. I loved Sea Level and immediately bought their album.
Having the pleasure to meet these two characters is a joy because they are so freakin' real. The level of talent is world class and the level of modestly is all universe. This is what bringing joy to the world is all about. They really love each other. BW is amazing and Coco is a true angel. They will lift you up. Take my word ❤
The drummer was Joe English who had just left McCartney and Wings. Davis Causey also shared guitar duties with Jimmy after the first album. Randall Bramlett joined after the first album and before the second as well, playing keyboards and sax. Those are some great albums too. Still would love to hear any John Prine stories you'd be willing to share. Thank you both for doing these.
The original drummer was Jaimoe from the Allman Brothers. Jaimoe played drums on the first album and in concert at the Duke Ellington Ballroom in Dekalb, Illinois, which is where I saw the group.
Music is the lifeblood that is able to produce talent like Bobby Whitlock . A great musician never dies, he lives on thru his music, he’ll live forever, thank God
Hahaha......"No Exit Publishing"?..... Lol.....yeah, you ain't gettin' outta that contract! That's funny....a real 'subtle' hint coming in the door. 🤣✌
Dont'cha just love senior moments? I enjoy mine. Aging has it's advantages. Lucky for us viewers here, your memory's pretty sharp. By the way, as for a fit of laughter...it's a GOOD thing. Whatever the troubles are, with someone else or yourself, it's better to look at them with some sense of humor. Crying, damned sure ain't fixing anything. 😉
I have to tell you, it's such a treat to see you in your natural environment. Always in the pocket. You've been generous to me with your time several times at The Saxon Pub and its stunning to me to connect with someone who was a driving force on the most important recordings of my life, of my generation. I'm not a player-though I have tried but I've been a music hound since I was ten. My first new record, (not used beatles 45s from garage sales) was Otis' Try a Little Tenderness when i was 11 or so. Bless ya-you got soul. Deep, everywhere and are a force of nature. I had my second shot today-I'm ready for live music again. And...where do you buy your shirts?
Thank you, = Coco for getting my question answered, indirectly or not in terms of it was as I thought Eric was playing Tell the Truth in standard A, = 440 tuning, not open E stuff. I felt I was correct however Clarification is always a Good thing.. Yes, indeed, = Bobby had got me all worried when he spoke of tuning to the E chord. and I totally understand that Eric, as you, and as Bobby, know exactly how to play, in open E or open G or open D (thorn tree) but at least for the clarification thing goes, "Tell The Truth" = is done in regular standard pitch tuning as far as Eric's guitar parts would go..!!! Thank you, Peace, love, be safe and healthy!!!. Thank you , Kindly, = M.G.
Thanks for talking about Chuck Leavell. I now live in Macon, he is well respected around here. Do you have any memories of living in Macon? The attorney's office where we closed on our house purchase was formerly Capricorn's business office - a few gold records still displayed. And the Brother's Big House is a popular museum. Really enjoyed this video!
My Dad had Parkinsons! ...and at times it was both depressing and horrifying. None the less, I was giggling right along with you; I saw absolutely no disrespect given by you, and no offense was taken by me. Sometimes looking back, it is easier to see and express humorous moments. I suspect that the ability to laugh, and to share in others laughter is one of the signs of a healthy heart and soul, thank you for yours. Spontaneous laughter of a thoughtful person in reaction to the various human conditions and frailties is a medicine in itself. Thank you both for these marvelous vignettes bringing thoughts and insights into things I have wondered about for years. God Bless you both.
Sorry about your dad, Bobby's aunt was severely disabled, they grew up together, it's a world he knows all too well. He's needed a sense of humor to survive. 💘 CoCo
@@BW-CC Thanks for the response and kind words CoCo, it's been over thirty years, and by then I'd seen a lot of death already. I looked upon my fathers passing as release, and hope it was "graduation day" for him. I saw a couple of the interviews where Bobby talked about his aunt... it was very touching. I again suspect the relationship he had with her had a significant part in developing his tender and expressive heart. To have a relationship like that forces oneself to evaluate "standards of measure" with regards to what we believe someones place in the world is. This world is well and truly upside down, with far too few of us recognizing the value in the "less fortunate". Those we think were "short changed" here on earth, whether by race, physical ability, or mental capacity, I believe are going to receive a greater position and place in heaven since they were esteemed to be worth... less... in this world. Once again, God Bless you Both!
Great stuff. I met Jimmy Nalls when he was at the top of his game, playing with Jimmy Hall and the Nighthawks in the DC area. When he left he said he was going to play with Winton Marsalis (back to JAZZ). Wonderful guitarist.
Jaimoe! He and Chuck founded Sea Level. Fantastic band! Joe English, i think, later took over the drum chair from Jai. Joe would go on to drum with Wings after Geoff Britton's 5 months with Wings. Thank you for your interviews, they brighten my day! You're a wonderful person and what an amazing, blessed life! Cheers!
Cool.....hey getting our electric bill paid every month is no small thing to most of us! Lol.....good! Chuck Leavell has done so much. Sea Level, Allman Bros., The Stones, ect! Great feel....you've been blessed to be surrounded by the best in the genres you've played. ✌😎
Open e tuning low to high. E B E G# B E I used that tuning because all the tonics are on the e string like standard tuning Thanks again for more info Sea level was a great band
Chuck Leavell is wonderful. Give the Stones some credit: they always know who makes them sound good. I cut two tendons and my thumb didn’t work any more. I spent my savings to fix it. It’s tight, but I don’t see how you can play with a finger you can’t lift. It would drive me nuts. Love to y’all.
Hi Folks, A piece of serendipity; just got a 2012 Album of Chuck Leavell “ back to the woods” covering early blues piano ,, Chuck is a very fine player as you say bobby with “ finesse” Chuck was on Eric’s unplugged Album & his playing was plain as daylight in its precision & flavour . I sent you a photo which I think is quite rare from Dominoes days ,,, it’s just You & Eric singing at the keyboard ,,, Hope you like it. 🥂Cheers
Bobby, did you know my friend and neighbor here in South Carolina, Courtland Pickett (Motorcycle Mama)? Court's first band in Alabama was with Chuck Leavell, Chalie Heyward (Charlie Daniels Band), and Pete Carr. Not a bad lineup for your first teenage band. I wouldn't be surprised if you knew Court. Thanks again to you and CoCo for the great videos.r
Thanks for asking/answering my question. One other: having myself lived at times in the English "home counties" where not much goes on except a pub and farms, I can relate to the loneliness you experienced at Ringo's and John's mansions out in Ascot for months at a time. Q: Did you ever "join in" with any local musicians and play? Q2: Renting those mansions must have been very expensive! What did they charge you? Thanks again. Love the channel.
the great English actor Kenneth Branagh, in his autobiography, he talks about what happens when stage actors can't stop laughing - they call it "corpsing" - so now you know :-)
Hey Bobby, I was reflecting on how you described George Harrison hand writing you royalty checks for writing credits on All Things Must Pass. Just wondered if those $55 checks might have been worth more (uncashed) for the signature alone.
I think it was Michael J. Fox, the actor (Back to the Future) who is suffering from Parkinson's. He was diagnosed very early but still managed to have a reasonably productive career... as long as he could keep the shaking under control. I pray there'd be a cure someday to this dreaded affliction. That being said, I was ROFL with that wire-on-off joke from Bobby!! Just a humorous take on a medical situation. 'twas cool.
Eric Clapton does not play open tunings very often, that’s true. From what I’ve seen and heard on record and in per- son, he does like open G tuning and sometimes with a capo at fret 2 to make it the key of A. He’s a very good slide player, in my opinion. He doesn’t play a lot but his intonation is always right on and his notes are clean and clear, Much like his great friend and musical compatriot, George Harrison. George is one of the best and he almost NEVER played in anything but standard tuning.
So I’m confused, listening to the fast version of To Tell the Truth, you can hear at the end , Eric pulls off the slide from the strings and it sounds like his guitar was in an open tuning, unless someone else was playing slide and I just missed that. Ok, I got it now. Just got the info from an earlier video.
Are y'all planning on doing some live shows after this covid crap ends? I live in Lawrenceburg Tennessee about 80 miles south of Nashville. Would love to come up to Nashville to see you guys sometime. Maybe not necessarily Nashville but anywhere that I could drive to. I do that I go to other cities to see concerts and spend the night drive home the next day.

George Weaver joined Jaimoe before the second album, both left before the third, that's when Joe English joined. Thanks for clarifying.
