Technically most of the original Gotei 13 qualify for this as well. At the very least Yamamoto and Sasakibe should count, since they both knew Bankai before the Gotei 13 was even properly formed.
Toshiro hadn’t achieved Bankai before joining the Gotei 13. He said in the Everything but the Rain flashback that he had begun training to achieve Bankai. There was a Kenpachi who achieved Bankai before joining the Gotei 13 in the light novels. But that’s debatable on its canonicity.

I was thinking the same thing. In that episode, Isshin told hitsugaya to continue working on his Bankai training ( that's what I remember, I may be wrong). This could be interpreted as training to achieve a bankai, or training to make your bankai stronger. The latter would mean Toshiro already knew bankai, but I always assumed it meant that Toshiro was training in order to achieve bankai, meaning he didn't already know it when joining the Gotei 13

SAFWY is also between FKT and Fullbring, which means Azashiro lost to Zaraki when he was still using a fully sealed Zanpakuto, even when Azashiro used bankai against him. His Reiatsu was less than that Zaraki. So he is definitely overrated and people only ever mention and misrepresent his win vs Kuruyashiki and rarely mention his loss to Zaraki. His motivations are also about the same as like Shusuke Amagai (personal revenge against gotei 13) and that guy is super forgettable. Cien Granz is by far the more interesting villain in SAFWY.

He didn’t say that he did t have Bankai, he said that his Bankai training is going well. Kubo confirmed in a Klub Outside question that Toshiro got Bankai in the academy and we already know he was only in the academy for a year. So within 1 year of getting an Asauchi, he unlocked Bankai on top of getting his proficiency of the 4 Shinigami arts to a seated officer level

Toshiro was 3rd seat under Isshin Shiba when he was training for his bankai. So, no, he didn't have it until after being in the Gotei. The ones that did however are Chojiro Sasukibe and Genryusai Yamamoto
If I remember correctly the requirements to become a captain is having a bankai so this video is really wrong, the only reason the current gotei 13 might have a captain without bankai or a captain that didn’t have bankai at their time of becoming one is prob because of how many of them died/were forced to quit being a soul reaper

Toshiro got his Zanpakuto whilst in the academy ((for those who didnt see this his best friend got the same one and was murdered because of that)) now he might have been one of the first ones to achieve Bankai more fluently/easier but technically he wouldn't achieve Bankai till later after his Graduation.
Toshiro doesn't look particularly strong next to the other captains but when someone factors in that he's a kid compared to them it becomes a bit more weighty.
People forget that the captains are hundreds to thousand years old. Toshiro is a child amongst adults who are centuries old which is even more impressive.
If you read the manga, you’d know ow that while Isshin was still captain, Hitsugaya was still working on his bankai training to achieve it. The MAN Kenpachi from Zaraki. He had Shikai and Bankai. The whole time, probably not long after his fight with Yachiru hundreds of years ago. He just blocked out his Zanpakuto. As soon as he hears that voice he’s busting out shikai and bankai with no training to unlock it.

One of the kenpachis achieved bankai before discoring his Shikai and his power was really something, but like Shinji the best thing is that the power between his shikai and bankai is reversed. His shikai is only, just a really really super duper powerfull sword and thats all, while his bankai allow him to control the reishi in the Soul society herself, but don't grant him any physical strenght like a good Kenpachi is supposed to.
Zaraki Kenpachi also did that, if the conditions are simply having a Bankai. Only reason he can't use it is 'cause he didn't know her name, but Nozarashi did manifest. And I guess you could say that Kenpachi's Zanpakuto is the only Zanpakuto to have a Shikai of its own.

I was thinking the same thing. In that episode, Isshin told hitsugaya to continue working on his Bankai training ( that's what I remember, I may be wrong). This could be interpreted as training to achieve a bankai, or training to make your bankai stronger. The latter would mean Toshiro already knew bankai, but I always assumed it meant that Toshiro was training in order to achieve bankai, meaning he didn't already know it when joining the Gotei 13

@@doom9128eh he's a little overrated by the people who do know about him as he did cheap shot Kuruyashiki before their fight even began, not to mention Kuruyashiki wouldn't have used bankai at all, so Azashiro's win over him is watered down by those things. SAFWY is also between FKT and Fullbring, which means Azashiro lost to Zaraki when he was still using a fully sealed Zanpakuto, even when Azashiro used bankai against him. His Reiatsu was less than that Zaraki. So he is definitely overrated and people only ever mention and misrepresent his win vs Kuruyashiki and rarely mention his loss to Zaraki.
His motivations are also about the same as like Shusuke Amagai (personal revenge against gotei 13) and that guy is super forgettable. Cien Granz is by far the more interesting villain in SAFWY.

You're seriously mixed up and lost here. I don't think you've fully grasped what went down in the fight between Azashiro and Zaraki. Initially hurt by Azashiro's kido, Kenpachi unexpectedly powered up, allowing him to face Cien. However, Cien had this unique knack for analyzing opponents' reiatsu, making himself immune and able to counter. So, Kenpachi found himself in this never-ending loop of getting stronger while Cien adapted, forcing Kenpachi to level up exponentially. Even after hitting Vasto Lorde Ichigo's level, Kenpachi got hit with a barrage of heavy-duty kido, akin to what Yamamoto busted out against Aizen. This whole onslaught pushed Kenpachi to a whole new level of power, enough to withstand Azashiro's bankai. We know that if an enemy has a huge gap in reiatsu compared to another, the one with the major reiatsu advantage can nullify the other's bankai. So, Azashiro losing to Zaraki doesn't make him "overrated," tf? Zaraki hit a level comparable to *maybe* Dangai Ichigo, probably even stronger, I'd say. To call Azashiro "overrated" just because he lost to a character who took down a dude capable of manifesting his imagination, and on par with Ichigo, the series' main character who's basically a hybrid of all races, is just plain crazy and delusional.

Kubo confirmed in a Klub Outside question that Toshiro got Bankai in the academy and we already know he was only in the academy for a year. So within 1 year of getting an Asauchi, he unlocked Bankai on top of getting his proficiency of the 4 Shinigami arts to a seated officer level

Toshiro got his Zanpakuto whilst in the academy ((for those who didnt see this his best friend got the same one and was murdered because of that)) now he might have been one of the first ones to achieve Bankai more fluently/easier but technically he wouldn't achieve Bankai till later after his Graduation.
Toshiro doesn't look particularly strong next to the other captains but when someone factors in that he's a kid compared to them it becomes a bit more weighty.
People forget that the captains are hundreds to thousand years old. Toshiro is a child amongst adults who are centuries old which is even more impressive.

It’s not that he had his bankai before joining the Gotei 13, but that he could communicate to a degree with his Zanpaktou spirit and was strongly connected to it, probably more than most

One of the kenpachis achieved bankai before discoring his Shikai and his power was really something, but like Shinji the best thing is that the power between his shikai and bankai is reversed. His shikai is only, just a really really super duper powerfull sword and thats all, while his bankai allow him to control the reishi in the Soul society herself, but don't grant him any physical strenght like a good Kenpachi is supposed to.
I mean it's basically speculated by the new Head Captain that Hitsugaya will likely surpass him. Hitsugaya as Head Captain would be pretty cool

Id love to see a spinoff season with Hitsugaya as the main character set in the future or even a movie but Bleach movies arent terrible but not usually not great at all, pretty shallow.
