  • A story of one family's loss to fentanyl poisoning, recorded during the DEA Family Summit on Opioid Overdose and Fentanyl Poisoning.
Naloxone, the active ingredient in 4mg Narcan and higher dose 8mg Kloxxado, along with many generic versions, can reverse an opioid overdose if administered quickly enough. Some areas have Naloxone available for free. Google it.

I take personal accountability, but it was also the ppl I was introduced to. The music I was listening to at the time made it seem cool. Fortunately, I never got hooked on any of it. Also luckily, I fell out with those ppl and haven’t touched that shit since. I also had a self awakening moment and could literally see myself in a casket. I didn’t wanna bring that pain on my family like that. I’m praying that everyone dealing with addiction can overcome it.

Amen! At the age of 35 I was snared by the devil into a crack addiction that saw me ride a black horse and forget my name. 3 years later As I entered a rehab (on the very day that 33 years before my dad had took his life) as I entered I WAS DIPPED IN A LIVING WATER! The feeling you get when half under water and half out seeing out of my eyes I could see waves..as soon as my 2nd foot entered the building I was healed of all addictions, and urgently felt as though my friend needed help. I had no recollection of a crack addiction, nor memories as they too were wiped white as snow…no withdraw, no dreams, no sorrow! Healed in an instant. By the time my stay was over I was teaching board of prisoners how to color, and I also was leading a small Bible study. I spent 40 days and nights in that place just as Jesus had in the desert. I know that while addicted my soul cried out to our Father in Heaven and HE healed me at the moment I gave up. The moment I sought a help here. I will never forget how the Lord used me to show people that through the shed blood of Christ we all can be redeemed IF we let go and let GOD save us.

Trauma is a gateway and we need better resources for help and find better ways to help and support those struggling. Stigma and judgement from people who are usually failing to look in the mirror or totally do not understand the struggle of addiction and should just be thankful not to understand!! For those struggling KEEP TRYING keep fighting.

an addict is always an addict. first step is to acknowledge that. we are either passive or active there is no middle ground, and we most definitely have to accept that in order to fight it. its an everyday battle, one step at a time, one day at a time. but you have to be ready to walk that road of sobriety, no matter what that road is. its whatever is right for you. be it rehab, medication, religion, helping others, solitude, meetings, writing in journal, or talking about it to others. find what works for you and be consistent, for yourself and never others. sobriety is hard, but its beautiful.....for whoever's going through it, keep fighting the fight you're not alone. may brooke rest peacefully.

For some reason, these stories appeared in my feed and I got swept up. So very sorry and sad to see stories of the many innocent victims of fentanyl poisoning. Such a complicated issue, addiction in general. To fully address/resolve, so many factors and influences need to come together, starting with the victim and his/her circumstances that resulted in trauma and the path chosen that ultimately led to cost of life. And then, even the best laid plans and interventions do not promise a good end.

Prayers can come from all religions, I am muslim. I have witnessed my parents struggle beside a sibling who has battled drug addiction throughout his thirties as well. Never did I expect Narcan to be part of our home. Preparing yourself for that one heartbreaking phone call takes hours, weeks, months of heartbreaking acceptance and knowing that still won't be enough. I will pray for all the girls who are ready to heal.

    • @TexasPictures
      @TexasPictures  Год назад +1

Naloxone is the active ingredient in Narcan and is also available in many generics as a nasal spray. In fact, the brand name Kloxxado delivers a higher dose of naloxone than Narcan (Kloxxado-8mg per dose, Narcan-4mg per dose). Naloxone can reverse an opioid overdose if administered quickly enough. Some areas have Naloxone available in the brand name Narcan or generic versions available for free.
It is important to recognize that Naloxone is the drug, Narcan is just a brand name. Whenever someone uses the word "Narcan" in place of "naloxone", they're devaluing all the other equally effective brand options and promoting a specific pharmaceutical company.

i first tried heroin at 17. it was a party good time drug for me for 11 years. my first physical habit was at 28. the next 15 years were run a habit for 2-3 months, clean up for 6-7 months, a year even. One day get the bright idea that “hey ive been working hard and doing well. i wanna treat myself.”. each time within 5 months i was shooting 10 bags a day simply to get well again. All the while holding down jobs, juggling staying free in the justice system.
im 55 now. its been a while, but the last time was an overdose and my adult child had to witness their mother tell junkie lies to EMTs who were only trying to help.
i always told myself since i never stole, did tricks, lost custody of my children, lost of my driver’s license or been evicted from my residence i wasn’t “that bad.”. no, i was just lucky, with some kind or ignorant enablers.
i ended up getting involved with the justice system, long after i last used heroin and only a little more than a year before my state legalized cannabis recreationally. i figured im paying dues i owed i just never got caught for.
please don’t blame yourself. or even their friends, the dealers, the cartels, “Biden’s weak border policies.”. we all make our own choices. we all are trying to numb pain and stress from a society who tells us we need to work longer and harder and make more money to buy more stuff, and if you dont? Youre worthless. no wonder so many seek to dull the pain and shame

This family seems to have done everything possible to help their child. It's a heartbreaking situation for families whose loved one battles addiction. I was prescribed fentanyl patches in 2003 after having been previously prescribed other pain medications in the past. My family doctor assured me it was the best choice for me. After a couple months I realized fentanyl was not for me and I tapered down to tramadol. I later found out this same doctor was essentially selling prescriptions to many of his patients for a flat $250.00 per visit. He gave them multiple pain meds, benzos, and strong muscle relaxers. Several patients died under this doctor's care and he was ultimately arrested, convicted and sentenced to over 30 years. He was in his mid 60s.

Mary, writing one's own obituary is actually a common recovery activity we all do. Her's was especially poetic, confident almost like she was sucked in by the romance of dying. Not that her situation was the same but think of Romeo and Juliet. When I saw the movie as a field trip outside of staring at Olivia DeHavalands bodacious chest I was enamored as a tween by the ROMANCE of their deaths, not necessarily their poor choices or lack of parental supervision! Folks that jump off the Golden Gate Bridge will write prior to their leap in the same romanticized way. Survivors of that leap are well documented in their realization as they hurl towards the sea slamming at a predictable rate of speed per body weight and hitting 40 degree water that unless your entry is somehow perfect you slam into the equivalent of concrete. Seems making the 'other side' less attractive might help. Jesusian here and I'm excited to go home and fortunately upon recovery my suicidal tendencies waned so home when my time comes,... not like this😔🕊️

This was a moving story. I've struggled with addiction for 30 years, with bouts of sobriety thru 12 step programs, in and out of rehabs. Everything changed in June of 2019 when I accept Jesus Christ into my life. From that day I've been clean with absolutely NO URGE TO USE WHATSOEVER. Truly a miracle never in my wildest dreams would I have believed you if you told me before that day that Jesus was the answer to the problem all along. My pastor told me not long after my conversion that I never had a drug problem, but rather a Jesus problem all that time .....

I'm just now seeing this. Hoping there will be a Chapter II allowing parent's to share more on the true Essence of their child. Meanwhile, I need to set this straight. The hardest person to forgive is yourself. My healing will come in time. I thought I knew everything about addiction at the time she was alive. I actually studied the history of Opioids and I gave up my career to walk alongside the homeless with SAPD HOPE team doing ID recovery. On Brooke's last day, as I was leaving rehab. She stopped me and asked, "Mom, why am I here"? All I could think to say was, Brooke, I just want you to live! What I didn't understand, until after death, is the depth of Opioids on the brain. It truly is out of the addicts control. If addiction were thought of as a cancer on the brain, I think more people would be receptive and compassionate. My mom passed from cancer in January. She fought it for years and the family supported her. It sad that Brooke actually put up the same fight for her life, yet hers was a stigma, to be hidden and not shared and supported by all people. WE, us parents, are going to work together to break that STIGMA so another life is not lost to addiction.

Heartbreaking 💔 I lost my father in 1999 to an overdose. Breaks my heart how ramped it has become and all the lives it has taken. Writing her own obituary wow. My heart goes out to this family and all families dealing with addiction and the losses that come with it! ❤

The best part of your testimony is declaring the name of Jesus, I know he can deliver and save anyone who calls on him. My son relapsed 9 months ago, and all can say thank you Jesus for delivering my son again. I am so sorry for your beautiful daughter, this is very sad to listen to. God bless you keep the faith no matter what!

It kills me to see parents that tried to help their kids blame themselves. Getting and staying in recovery is the addict’s responsibility. You can’t save your child(ren), they must save themselves. Thirteen years clean, we can and do recover. RIP Brooke

I have been clean for 16+ years- it has not been easy, but I wouldn't go back on drugs. I have learned how to deal with feeling pain in my life without having to go and get high and drunk any more.
Listening to this lady tell her daughters story is so sad- may her daughter rest in peace.

I never got the details on how they passed and I’m glad I stumbled across this video. I didn’t know Brooke well, but it was obvious through our meetings and those who loved her how amazing and beautiful she was. I’m so sorry her journey was cut short. Thank you for sharing this part of her story with the world and know that her memory also lives on in many of us who were privileged enough to join paths with her.

I lost 2 nieces to tainted heroine and meth, laced with fentanyl. They died 2 years apart, both we’re working the program but the drugs got the best of them. They both left small children and now my sister is very lost and depressed, blaming herself. May all the addicts seek help, your family loves you very much but we can’t help you until you help yourself!

WOW!!! If you didn’t cry watching this, you are not human! What a beautiful and extraordinary young woman Brooke was. She packed more into her 30 years than most do in an entire lifetime. I cried like a baby listening to the obituary she wrote for herself. Sending her parents so much love, strength and peace. All the way from Country Victoria. Australia 🇦🇺 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

Just beyond heartbreaking. The commenter Melanie below me is absolutely right. You did not fail her. You did Way Beyond what many people are capable of doing with rehabs, and support. I am clean and sober for 25 years now, but it took 27 years of drug and alcohol, arrest, losing jobs before I was able to get clean. Brooke was incredibly blessed to have you all and your love and support. I would say our community and Country fails people with addictions by making it financially prohibitive for most people. I was in rehab for 4 months, and then went to a halfway house. That was 25 years ago and all of that was was a fourth of what it cost now and was covered by my employers insurance. Now rehab is a huge money making, for profit care and our country should be ashamed of ourselves that we continue to let people suffer simply because adequate resources not available unless you are extremely well off. Best to you and and bless you for your work and sharing your story.
