That's great to hear! I am moving them down to the Mallard, so now it being something actual makes it even better. I did find the HO versions I was looking for, and had I been smarter at the time, I would have bought first. Thank you for being there!
That colour combination of scotsman & BR maroon coaches looks stunning. When you're sitting back enjoying running them, the small size difference wont even be noticeable. A great compliment to scotsman for sure.
Hi Ben! Hope the recovery is progressing well, even if it feels slow. In most cases the size difference would not be too bad, but on my layout and the fact that many 1:87 models are actually more 1:95 or even 1:100, it is noticeable. That is nothing to worry about as I did find the right coaches in true HO!
Hi Anthony, The coaches are definitely nice looking. I'm sure you will figure it out.On a second note that Flying Scotsman which is one the most recognized and beautiful steam locomotive..awesome 👍 Darrell
I've had those experiences too Anthony, where I've bought stuff and it wasn't what I expected. The coaches do look nice and the Flying Scotsman looked like it had no trouble handling them! I'm confident the coaches you're seeking will come along in due time!
Oh, I know. We have all been screwed in deals or the pictures lied. I was just mad at myself for not doing my own due diligence and checking the numbers or going with the model numbers Rick David put me onto.
Opa Dodge, it happens....in fact, in my early days on eBay, I made a few "oops". However, I must say those look DAMN NICE!!! That loco is AMAZING as well. Makes me want to do another steam run on the B&N!!
I was being a bit dull. The link you gave me had everything, but instead of using the model numbers and searching individually, I typed a generic "UK Lima HO," because there were several different liveries. These popped up, I loved the color, they said "HO," so I bought. Now I know Lima has box color schemes. So, I have looked up model numbers this time and found exactly what I wanted. Live and Learn. Still, very much grateful for your help!
Hello Tim, our dear friend! Hope you are well! I am glad to hear that the coaches will work with both locos, as I have been told they might not be prototypical in this livery. I love these and have loved this maroon everywhere I have seen it... I believe you have a few in this maroon! So, I will now have 2 sets, as I have found the HO versions (labeled LMS instead of BR, but I do not care) and ordered them! Take care and hope to see you on FB or YT soon!
They look fine to me Anthony and when the heritage trains run they pull all sorts of coaches so anything goes. Your railway, your trains, your town so you run what you want atb Andy
Hello Andy! Thank you for stopping by. What you have said is exactly how I felt when I ordered this livery- I know it was not prototypical for the Scotsman, but in these heritage days, they seem to pull many different types. I just love that LMS maroon (my favorite pre-modern UK livery). I was very thrilled when I opened them up and put them on the track. Only when I added the Scotsman did I see them as not quite right in scale. I know most folks would not care a lick, but it bothered my eyes, and also bothered me that I did not research the product model numbers better and took the ad at face value. So, these shall run with my Mallard on my OO loops, and the HO ones which are coming soon will run on my table! In the end, it's a win. I was just mad at myself for not doing due diligence.
Hi Anthony, the Flying Scotsman normally pulled LNER Teak coaches, I am not sure if these were produced in Ho scale. As you said the Crimson BR coaches you bought would be in scale with your Mallard. I am sure you would be able to re-sell these if you decided and get your money back as they look in great condition. Cheers, Paul.👍👍
Hello, Paul. Interesting to hear about the LNER. I knew that was one, but I have read it also pulled BR and GWR coaches in various liveries. Oh well, I just wanted some classy UK coaches for it to pull on my layout, prototypical or not. Indeed, the BR coaches go with the Mallard, but I think the maroon livery is one it did not pull, either. It'll work out. They are nice coaches.
@@ModelTrainOutsiderHi Anthony, The Teak Coaches were used during the LNER period, then it would have pulled various coaches after regrouping to BR after WW2. In fact the Teak coaches were deemed unsafe as the bodies were wood (teak) and then scrapped when BR took over. To be honest I would run whatever coaches look good, its the Loco thats the star of the show. I also discovered some Hornby train sets were sold as 00/Ho the Ho refering to the fact they could run on that gauge. I dont think Hornby realised 00 and Ho track is basically the same. Cheers, Paul.👍
Bummer there Anthony, they do look really nice! Interesting that the listing was from Sheboygan, WI. I grew up there, and now live in Plymouth, 15 miles west of there! Who knows, may even know the seller? (Dave).
Hello, Dave. It is quite possible the seller did not even know the difference. As Lima would be more known over here as HO. I am not upset with the seller, even if they were in error. My own due diligence with information from others I had asked for, would have clued me in and helped me find the right coaches. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Hiya Anthony Nice ..yes slightly over sized but if you hadn't mentioned it..I doubt most (with exception off rivet counters) Would not have noticed the size. You can always return. You just have to wait for coach stock to be released. Patients grass hopper lol The Lima coach stock are nice considering year of build. For time being I think look good. Atb Mark
Hiya, Mark! Sadly, it is when I put the loco with the them, that I felt the coaches looked off and started delving deeper into it and realized my mistake. They are beautiful coaches, which is why I chose them, even knowing that the Scotsman would not have likely pulled them. Hey, the Scotsman never ran through Germany, either, so all bets are off. I really wanted to honor the Scotsman with a rake of sharp UK coaches, even if on a German layout.
Hi Anthony, that is frustrating and I have experienced something similar. I purchased a class 33(blue) and three matching blue/grey coaches all by Lima. It wasn’t until I put them on the track that I realized they were not 00 scale. I would be happy to sell them to you fir a reasonable price🤣
I am sure we have all fouled up. I just like to share mine in hopes somebody will avoid the silly mistake I made. Rick David gave me a good site. I just should have looked up the model numbers rather than done a generic wide search. As for the blue/grey coaches... I could be interested seriously.
Well, Anthony, you always have the possibility to resell them, if and when you find them in H0. But as you say they do look good as Lima models goes. It’s just learning by trail and error. Best of luck with what ever your solution will be.
No, I will keep them. I am not out a lot of money and they can run with my DC stuff on the floor. I have already found proper HO coaches with the correct model numbers for HO.
Easily done my friend! They are nice coaches for sure, I have the 3rd Brake in BR Blue & Grey myself :) They are right for FS in that livery it is in too so it is only the scale that is out to be fair :)
Hello Christopher, good sir, and thanks for the comment and support. I have been told FS would and would not have pulled such coaches. In the end, I will keep these coaches, and I have already found the proper HO version (although they incorrectly, according to the site) say LMS on them. They are beautiful coaches and will look cool on the OO loops below pulled by the Mallard.
Hello Anthony, very nice coaches I do like that livery. To me personally they look great with the Scotsman and it's your layout your rules. You could always report the seller and seek a refund as you have been misled by the seller if you wanted to . I hope you and Joyce are well take care my friend.
Hiya, Deano! I know I can file a return and complaint and get my money back. I think I will just keep them and use them with the Mallard as a change of pace from the Gresley's, even if not prototypical. It is likely even the seller didn't know they were OO. I am more mad at myself for not fully using the site and info Rick gave me, but jumped on the first deal that said "HO" in this livery, as it is my favorite.
Yes, as I mentioned in the video, I was given a site which listed all the companies who made HO UK stock and the various model numbers and pics. It was very interesting. That's how I screwed this order up. Rather than picking a set, I did a random search for "HO UK..." and these came up. Had I searched by model number, I would not have been "tricked" into buying mislabeled. Or, had I looked up the model numbers provided I would have learned they were OO, as I did later. I was too excited... so exactly what livery I wanted and it said "HO."
Oh that sucks. When I was in England and hit the hobby shop, it was hard because everything was OO scale, so even though i got stuff I knew I couldn’t buy any thing that wasn’t a build. Nice cars though.
Yes, it was that way when Joyce and I hit the shops in the UK, even though we knew we were looking for something in OO. I will use these with my UK stuff on the floor. I have already found the correct HO versions. Had I paid attention to model numbers instead of trusting the ad, I would not have made this mistake. In the end, a "happy" problem. I have some addition UK stock for my OO loops. Cheers!
I wouldn't be too worried. Most of us OO Gauge Collectors end up with HO stuff as well. 1:76 vs 1:87 isn't a huge difference in size really. You'd really need to be looking hard to spot the difference. Happy Modelling. Mon
One can see a difference in true OO and the standard European stock (often 1:92 to even 1:100). As I mention in the video, I can run these with my OO Mallard on my floor loops (which are DC and analog). Fortunately, I did find the HO scale I wanted. I was just mad at myself for trusting the "HO" label on the ad on eBay and not checking the model number! Thank you for the support and positive words!
@@ModelTrainOutsider OO gauge is originally from the UK and is 1:76, dating back to Bassett Lowke and Hornby Dublo, pre WWII days. This scale is continued in the UK until present days by Tri-ang, Tri-ang Hornby, Wrenn and then Hornby. Lima, who were originally Italian, were acquired by Hornby in 2004. Tri-ang brought out the UK version of TT Gauge between 1957 and 1964, which is 1:101 and is different to OO Gauge. I run UK OO Gauge, TT Gauge and N Gauge on my 5 layouts here. I also have the OO Gauge Lima carriages you bought. Happy Modelling.
@@monsvillerailways5736 This I did know! :) I will check out your channel! TT started in Germany, and for some reason the UK did TT in a different scale. Similar to all the different N-Scales.
@@ModelTrainOutsider Yes. 👍 TT by Tri-ang was decided to be 1:101 in order to fit the motors of the time into locos. The same for OO Gauge at 1:76.. Technology has changed a lot since those early days. Tri-ang TT didn't last sadly and this been rekindled by Hornby at the more standard 1:120 scale. Hornby continues the OO Gauge of 1:76 due to the huge following it has. Stay safe and happy modelling
Ohh well. It happens to all of us from time to time. Nice looking passenger cars. If you want, you have 2 ways of fixing the over size problem. 1. Put it into an oven for 5 mins and it shall shrink. 2. Since it was here in Australia, I can seek the cars it use to pull when it visited here, which is close to these colours. Enjoy.
Oh dear, they are beautiful coaches. I did a similar thing and bought a class 33 diesel that was advertised as Lima 00 but turned out to be H0. I still run it with my 00 stock and turn a blind eye to the difference.
It is a common error, for sure. Fortunately, I did find the proper HO ones. Mind you, I was mad at me for not double-checking before buying, when I had a site that had all the model numbers for HO.
Hi Anthony, like the comments below, most of us have been in this situation, I'm sure over time you will find the right ones! The fact that they were advertised with some wrong information doesn't help. All the best. John
Oh, yes, we have all been in this situation from buying used tools to used cars off the street. I just put my errors out there for folks maybe to learn from my mistake of not due thorough diligence. Mind you, only 1-200 people will see it, so not likely to save anyone, lol.
4mm compared to 3.5 mm Lima produced Mark 1s in BR Maroon, BR blue & grey & some other liveries, they produced BSK,CK,SO, Restaurant with incorrect roof & Full Brake BG this was overscale length supposed to be 57ft chassis but like Hornby used a standard 61ft chassis. Oh yes those big ugly couplings
Hello again! The web site I mentioned did say these were not "accurate" and listed a few things. As running a Flying Scotsman on a German layout is a fiction in and of itself, the coaches can be fictitious too, I guess. lol I just love the LMS coloring and as long as the coaches look classy enough, even if not prototypical to their basis, I will call it a win. I really just wanted some sharp UK coaches to go with a UK loco on my HO, 3-Rail, AC layout. I can now run these coaches with my Mallard on my floor layout where I run DC/2-Rail.
The no returns Means nothing if the item is not as described, That just covers the Oh I changed my mind, Thers a couple of Lima Ho pullman coaches on hattons. You could try the old tri ang TT scale which was 3mm to the foot
Hi, Clive!!! I agree, I can appeal, but it is not worth the hassle. I can run these with the Mallard, even if not the dread p-word. They are gorgeous coaches, so they shall be used. I already found the proper HO in this coloring (not the same BR, but LMS lettering). I was given a site that lists all the HO scale models for UK trains (oddly enough, called 1:87 UK Rail). Had I just looked up the correct model numbers instead of a broad search, I would have found the right models. So, in the end, it is a win-win. I will have a few lovely coaches from the UK in a cool color! Best wishes to you!
No way , oh well they look nice anyway and if you like the liverys who cares its your system .I had some of those Lima coaches on my old layout along with a GWR re rail in OO scale . Its a bit confusing with Lima as they do ho scale on European items and OO for British stock.. My flying Scotsman is lost in customs I think, still no sign of it... Take care 👍🏻
Sadly, I did not know about the box coloring for UK stock. I just read the ad and did not look any further. I am still learning in this hobby, especially when it comes to the ultra-rare UK stock in HO scale. Had I just used the model numbers from the site Rick gave me, I would not have made this mistake. Ah, well... they can stay with my OO stock on the floor! lol
Hi Anthony, Here in the UK there is a law about miss selling and I am sure that if applicable on this then you would be ok to send back and get all your costs back but none of that makes up for the disappointment you must have felt when you found out but as you will keep the coaches you can run them on the floor OO layout with the Mallard and who knows she may have run with these when she was out on the Railtours part of her life but what it also does is give you a reason to buy other UK OO engines to run with them and as I have some HO Italian coaches which I run with OO engines so try these ones with other locos (HO) you have and see if they look better as my HO Italian loco does look ok with my UK coaches as its from 1953 so no aerodynamics in then and is like a brick (E646). I will look forward to the next mail call keep well and safe. Cheers Robert.
Hello Rober, Sadly, the dealer had a "no return" policy. I could argue it with eBay, and I would likely win, but why bother with that hassle. They are beautiful coaches, and I will run them on my UK loops on the floor with the Mallard, as you mention. I have already found the same coaches in HO, but label LMS. I know Scotsman never pulled LMS, but it never ran in Germany, either. So, if I am breaking the rules... why not. I just love that maroon livery that LMS used and some British Railways coaches had. It will stand out on my layout like the Scotsman stands out. Very nicely! All the best and thank you for the great support you give! Best wishes! Cheers!
Hello, Raymond. As I mentioned in the video, I learned that AFTER the purchase when I was researching the part numbers. Rick from Well Chuffed Railways gave me a site and a list of companies who manufactured HO. I did a general search to see if I could find various styles rather than try 20 different part numbers. When these came up as HO, I was happy with them and bought them, instead of double-checking the model numbers given.
Hello Phil. I actually have OO stock- I have a Mallard which I bought in the UK last year (my favorite Steam Loco in the world, and I am not into steam normally). I have a Hornby Beatles Eurostar, a Beatles "Singles from Liverpool" class 73 loco and boxcar set, a rake of Hornby Beatles Album boxcars (yeah, I am a Beatles fan), and a class 800 Azuma. So, the BR Maroon cars will go very well with my Mallard. I am jsut mad at myself because I knew the model numbers for the HO cars I wanted, but just bought these because they said "HO." It's a happy problem, as we say. I have to run my OO stock on a separate set of tracks on my floor, as my table layout is 3-Rail (AC), digital (aka "DCC") HO, and my OO stuff is all 2-rail analog DC. My Friday livestreams also have 6 Euro trains running on the main layout and 2 UK trains running on the floor layout.
@@ModelTrainOutsider great stuff, only got into your channel recently but loving the uploads I’ve watched so far. Nice to see a modeller “across the pond” doing Brit stuff too! Look forward to catching up with your older stuff and of course, keeping an eye out for future content. All the best mate, Phil
They are nice coaches. But if they where listed as HO you should contact the seller to see if they would be willing to take a return. Maybe? Thanks for sharing.
Hello, John! Thanks for watching! They are gorgeous. The seller had a "no returns" policy, but I can force a return because of the labeling error. It is not worth the hassle as I can keep the cars and run them on my OO loops with my Mallard, and I have found the HO versions I want!
Sorry to hear your carriage's are wrong. looking at the gangway doors between the carriage and the back of the tender your hight is almost right could you get away with changing the wheels for a smaller radius to bring them closer to the hight needed ? Wouldn't be a perfect fix but would at least reduce the blatant difference. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe.
The wheel change is a possibility, but the coaches just feel a bit wide on the tracks. I already have found the wagons in HO and should have them in a few days. I will either sell these back off or keep them with my OO stock I run on the floor. :) Thank you for watching and the ideas!
Oh, I read the ad through and through. What I did was trust the HO listing and not look up the model numbers. I even knew these were not on the page Rick David suggested to me, but went with them anyhow. The seller might not even know the difference between OO and HO. Heck even the boxes do not say one way or the other.
Well Anthony listen to Joyce it's fine they will go with your OO collection, lima are more prototypical than other brands of the time and I have some myself. In the British rail era it was a free for all most ex lms, lner etc were mixed up so trains were made up of what ever was available at the time . The letter M before the coach number means Midlands E East Midlands and W West Midlands . Enjoy them they look in very good condition and OO coaching with an HO loco will give the rivet counters something to talk about lol.
Hiya Brian! Thanks for the great information. I am only now realizing that LIMA made some quality stuff. I have seen it at shows, and I have heard quite a few friends in the UK and the Continent say good things about their rolling stock. I have more coming, but my first impression is they make some nice-looking stock! Cheers and all the best to you!
This really was not on you Anthony. The seller obviously doesn't know that HO and OO are scale sizes, not track sizes (which are the same) However, I wouldn't be bothered with the hassle of returning them either. They do look very nice, so maybe just run them with the lights dimmed and your glasses removed, till you find replacements.
That was my instinct. The seller probably did not know. I have bought a few thinks from sellers who are just clearing a relative's things and had no idea what the items were or their worth. If I had done my due diligence and looked up the provided model numbers, I would have learned they were OO. No real loss. I will just run them on the floor with my OO stock.
Don't beat yourself up, it was just a perfect storm, I've done it (but don't like admitting it) and so have most of us in our quest for euphoria. Yes, the Mallard in garter blue did pull BR maroon mark 1 coaches on the main line in 1987. I know because I was on it! www.alamy.com/birdwatch-europe-express-no4468-mallard-leaves-skipton-en-route-from-york-to-carnforth-16th-may-1987-image210377801.html
Oh, I know this is a mistake we can all make. I am just mad because Rick had put me onto a site that had all the proper makes and model numbers, and then I did my search and did a general search (hoping to catch all makes in the net and pick the best price and livery for me). Obviously, the person mislabeled, and maybe they did not know any better themselves. I recognized the model numbers in the eBay ad were not the ones from the site Rick gave me, and that SHOULD have been a warning bell... but my brain just did not listen to it and clicked "make offer." Ah well. They will look fab running on my OO loops with the Mallard, even if that is not prototypical. lol Cheers and be well!
They don't look too bad Anthony there's a never ending discussion about the "benefits" of oo scale. In my opinion it should never have been developed all it did was cause problems
Hello, Digger. They are beautiful, which is why I chose them, they just suddenly did not look quite right with the HO Scotsman. That's when I went back and looked up and found these were OO, despite the Ad. In the end, it is probably a win. I now have a cool set to run with the Mallard on my OO loops, and I have proper HOs coming in the next few days. I am just mad I wasted about $80 because I was too "buy it now" happy and did not double check the model numbers provided, but trusted the seller saying "HO." Heck, I didn't even know about the coloring for Lima UK boxes as a code. Had I known that, I would not have bought them because, silver for Lima UK means OO. Ah well, now I know! lol
Those cars will be perfect behind Mallard as they were in use in that livery 1956-ish until the mid 60s
That's great to hear! I am moving them down to the Mallard, so now it being something actual makes it even better. I did find the HO versions I was looking for, and had I been smarter at the time, I would have bought first. Thank you for being there!

@@ModelTrainOutsider
Yes. 👍
TT by Tri-ang was decided to be 1:101 in order to fit the motors of the time into locos.
Enjoy.
Hmmm, I was going to try a hot water wash and the dryer rather than hanging them out to dry. Maybe that will help them shrink a bit.
I've tried that before. I don't think Joyce will like the side effects it does to both the washing machine, and the drier.🤔
Ah, well... they can stay with my OO stock on the floor! lol
Hi Anthony,
Here in the UK there is a law about miss selling and I am sure that if applicable on this then you would be ok to send back and get all your costs back but none of that makes up for the disappointment you must have felt when you found out but as you will keep the coaches you can run them on the floor OO layout with the Mallard and who knows she may have run with these when she was out on the Railtours part of her life but what it also does is give you a reason to buy other UK OO engines to run with them and as I have some HO Italian coaches which I run with OO engines so try these ones with other locos (HO) you have and see if they look better as my HO Italian loco does look ok with my UK coaches as its from 1953 so no aerodynamics in then and is like a brick (E646). I will look forward to the next mail call keep well and safe.
Cheers Robert.
Hello Rober,
Sadly, the dealer had a "no return" policy. Cheers!
Only the red white and blue packaging and the orange and brown packaging is HO there is are some Lima tribute sites that will show you
Hello, Raymond.
Greetings from 🇬🇧, don’t beat yourself up, easy mistake to make…just a thought, why not invest in a OO scale loco to go with the LMS coaches?
@@philblyth3218 Thank you very much for the kind words. I try just to have fun and be silly on the channel.
Oops 😮😮it happens i have learned from the past i have screwed 😮many times i really read everything on the ads now 😮 sorry 😐😊
Cheers and all the best to you!
good vid nice vid thanks lee
thanks, Lee!
This really was not on you Anthony. The seller obviously doesn't know that HO and OO are scale sizes, not track sizes (which are the same)
However, I wouldn't be bothered with the hassle of returning them either.
They are definitely nice looking💔
Indeed.
Ah well, now I know! lol
