No, a course, membership site, or class is not necessary to to learn gospel or jazz. However, you get what you pay for, a private tutor is the best option and most expensive, after that would be some kind of class, course, or website, and the last option is to learn by yourself, through others, or through youtube. I try to make my videos to where people without means can learn from them while still providing a way to get more results by joining my program, but its not an absolute necessity and many folks grow just my watching my YT vids
