Each of the opinions are based on that person's perspective. Tony Atlas and New Jack both mentions how they don't like the new day in interviews.
@@MrBeavis84 it used to bother me, but these days everyone Black is not a clown. So it’s easier to swallow, however I haven’t watched a segment with RTruth in years…
Why is the audio on this show so horrible? Konnan sounds like he’s talking thru a soup can, disco sounds like he’s using a microphone from Temu, and for some reason I kept hearing sporadic mice squirming throughout this clip.
Truth has said himself that his gimmick is his actual sense of humor backstage... i don't see what the problem is.... Why are people so hung up on gimmicks? They are gimmicks... people have roles to fill... it is what it is... i dont understand why everybody has to treat everything like meta-commentary on society or what ever... its brain-rot.
Sometimes gimmicks can be mistreatment though. Look what Vince did to Dusty Rhodes. He put a legend in polka dots. It was Rhodes' greatness that he made that crap into gold.
I noticed R Truth was reserved backstage interview, ironically after Nash said this. I'm a K-Kwik fan, bring back K Kwik! More serious, focused, and more explosive. I do appreciate Ron Killings comedy though, fun times!
they mention the JBL forcing people back across the border, but the stories I've heard the storyline was pushed by Eddie Guerrero, who convinced JBL to go even further than what he was comfortable with. Especially the story about how Eddie's mom was involved in a show, and faked a heart attack. As far as R-Truth, I honestly believe the comedy is what got his foot in the door, and has lengthened his career.
Interestingly when Triple H took over, Lashley was the top guy on Raw as US champ, Bianca the top women's champ in the entire company, Street Profits regularly pushed as a top tag team with Ford getting singles push and Omos (like him or not) regularly on TV squashing dudes. Now they're all stuck in limbo with 5'7 workrate white guys getting pushed instead. And the only black person getting pushed is the comedy guy (i love the current R-Truth btw)
This isn’t some opinion that Nash just started having. He’s had it for over thirty years. Like, how can the nWo take so much influence from black culture and get massively over, but black wrestlers are far more often booked ridiculously and give ridiculous gimmicks. That’s basically what he’s been saying.
Y’all, I’m a snowflake, no doubt. But Big Kev is a snowflake like no other. In the same discussion, he said black wrestlers are portrayed as basically clowns, and then mimics their voice.
The character is a holdover from the McMahon era. He's kinda right. Boogeyman, Booker T ('03), The New Day. The list goes on. Comedy is all very well, but Truth was an awesome champ in TNA. He can do much more than just this, IMO.
He’s not out there gyrating his hips or portraying a “pimp” so I don’t see anything wrong with him acting like his head is in the clouds. His character is not offensive to blacks.
Vince always presented warped caricatures of people. Races, gender, nationalities, jobs, etc. Big Boss Man is like no cop I've ever seen. Isaac Yankem. His idea of a female's best qualities, or what an Italian or Russian looks and acts like, is pretty well-documented. He didn't do it so much in the early days, because he was accumulating established characters from other territories, but once the late 80s came, it was very much Vince McMahon's personal stereotypes that made it on the shows. Sometimes he would get talked out of something, or his idea bombed so he was forced to just let the performer try something. Kofi had dreadlocks, so you know, he's Jamaican, mon. Nash is pretty spot-on with it. A lot of people were slapped with unworkable gimmicks. But it hits different if you are female, Black/AA, Latino, German, Russian, Japanese, even Somoan's were presented as jungle savages half of the time - basically anyone that isn't a white male from North America got a gimmick that was pretty ignorant. And even then, you might have to be a clown or a male cheerleader.
They have featured black wrestlers as these narrow one-note attractions for years. It's either for their strength, agility or athleticism (i.e. Shelton and Kofi in the Rumble) and they get overlooked for championships way too often, or they're goofy cartoonish characters (New Day, Profits, R-Truth) and they get camera time but never taken seriously.
I'm admittedly torn, but I've been having the same thought as Disco ever since the Judgement Day stuff started of that would be one of hell of a swerve and long con. Truth is definitely awesome, though I get how his character could be seen outside of context. They really could be going something like that, I mean they brought up Little Jimmy recently and they've been doing a lot of reference to his history lately. Priest did ask to work with Truth specifically and I could see Hunter booking that way. Truth has been consistently over for decades, real talk he really wouldn't feel out of place in the ring with the Rock and that says it all really.
@@philwalsh8975 Raw doesn't get higher numbers because of who's on the show (unless it's the Rock or a tiny handful of others). Kevin Nash is a woke guy who is desperately trying to stay relevant. I can't listen to his show at all. His pushes his weird politics and cuts everyone down. If he wasn't 6"9", he would have been a typical jabroni.
Why are you name calling nash when he's right in the description of Truth? If you seen truth in tna you know he can tell and can be serious. But I guess your type that would rather see blacks as clowns then serious competitors.
I can totally see how WWE's gimmicks for black wrestlers don't age well. But I feel like R-Truth is being R-Truth. When black men don't act "urban", and don't talk "urban", they end up being called an Uncle Tom. It's like they can't win. R-Truth has been employed by WWE longer than so many. On top of it he's stayed relevant. If R-Truth started acting totally different fans would be confused. He puts so many smiles on so many faces. Come on, let him do his thing.
I'm black and i dont have a problem with truth being a comedy guy. He's pretty funny so why not do it. He had a time when he was a "serious" wrestler and transitioned to funny haha because it got over big. If i was a wrestler i would rather be R-truth and be a comedy guy because im actually funny. And not be a "serious" wrestler then be made a joke for people to laugh at because its horrible ( Great Kali, Tensai, Vladimir Kozlov etc.) If i could make all that money for just having fun and acting a fool on TV every week yes sir haha
Ayooo Kevin Nash is correct it's always us acting a fool dancing n rapping hit row street profits etc etc Lashley n Benjamin are like the only ones I can think of in the past 20 years that's not like that
You forget about Lashely's loving his sister too much gimmick and him bending over for everyone. The ironic thing is they used those awful gimmicks in the buildup to the hurt business.
R truth is for 5 year olds and they love him. End of story. No I don't find him funny, yes I skip his matches but you always go on about appealing to a wider audience.. WELL that's exactly what R-truth is. At least they don't insult the audience by trying to make him look competitive like Orange Cassidy
We always hear wrestlers are best when they turn who they really are up to 1000 percent. If R-Truth is a funny guy in real life, then maybe it's just him being him.
Ron came out in confederate uniform, so you are going to have some black people who are going to feel a certain type of way about it. Ron is not dumb, and he knows that there are some black people that don't like his act, as it was mention on MVP's old podcast. At the end of the day Ron has a family to support and I think people are smart enough to know that Ron the person is different from the character (shout out to Ron for giving my brother an interview back during the TNA days). Xavier Woods knowns that some black people have a problem with the New Day and even some of the older black wrestlers (Tony Atlas and New Jack being two who have publicly stated their dislike for the new day). When he admitted it, he had a sad look on his face when saying it, in one of the WWE black history segments when they were talking about 2 Cold Scorpio. MVP and Lashley both used not wanting to be like the New Day on the buildup of the hurt business and even did so in a backstage segment with the new day. At the end of the day the WWE has a very small black audience, so even if it was majority of black audience tuned out there will not be much of an impact on their numbers. Bob Sapp in Japan has acted way worse than Ron and the New Day. The man was comparing himself to a monkey and was having people feed him bananas like he was in a zoo.
Say what you want about the Truth, but he has made it two decades in WWE as an in ring performer. There aren't ten people in history that can make that claim. Truth is near the top of the list in longevity, so if that doesn't count for something, then I don't know what does. He must be doing something right.
Bobby Lashley is presented as a bad ass. Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill are presented as serious, respected athletes. Carmello Hayes is presented as a star professional wrestler. Hmmmm.....
Bobby ain't going after no titles, Cargill and Bianca are women - bw get way more opportunities than bm and the new guy that got a title shot on the first day, will get actually get a title shot at the ic title time will tell.

Kevin makes a great point and the history of WWF/E backs his comments. Traditionally, that company in particular has presented many black and other non-white wrestlers with borderline stereotypical and buffoonish gimmicks. Koko B. Ware, Kamala, R-Truth, and others have been saddled with these characters that make them look really like caricatures of black males. Ron Simmons and the Nation of Domination if you really dive deep into old tropes about “Angry Militant” black men also was a victim of WWF/E ideas. Stevie Ray of Harlem Heat has expressed the same sentiment as Kevin about WWF/E and that was the main reason he chose not to sign with them after Vince McMahon bought WCW assets.

Not surprising to see him so desperate to push racial tension
Nash finally got his " old man" voice
First time hearing his podcast?
Man if Disco delivered promos when he was wrestling like he talks now he would have had more heat than Dominic. People would have booed the moment they saw him start to speak.
yeah.. god forbid a black guy has a comedy gimmick... its not as if hes the only black dude on the roster, or as if WWE doesn't have other people make asses out of themselves for a laugh....
Kevin a reaching, Sean Oliver is an NPC, crying racism doesn't mean anything anymore.
When all the black characters play stereotypical black roles that make them look foolish, then yes his point is valid
Someone like BiG e should be built like a brock Lesnar.. not a shucking and jiving character.

As a Black fan, it bothers me beyond the slightest.
There are over 40 million black people in the USA and thus you are going to have many different black people who are going to have different opinions about the characters of the new day and R-Truth. Each of the opinions are based on that person's perspective. Tony Atlas and New Jack both mentions how they don't like the new day in interviews.
It bothers me, I'm tired of seeing black wrestlers being treated like clowns in wrestling.
Thanks Nash for bringing this to light ...konan I'm disappointed...you know this is some old jigga boo nonsense
@@CoolCATs2814 wtf do you mean "mistreatment" haha god, the reaching in this comment section is astonishing.
My favorite R-Truth character was when he talked about "Little Jimmy" 😂
"Little Jimmy" was a stand in for the audience.
R-Truth’s character today is like a wrestler who’s lost a few brain cells from his “work” to me. I still 😂 at the commitment he’s put in though.
Trick Williams, Bobby Lashley, Carmelo Hayes, street profits, the new day..are some pretty inspiring guys if u ask me
I noticed R Truth was reserved backstage interview, ironically after Nash said this.

Lol. R truth is a former multi time world champion outside WWE So his career would still last because of his talent and abilities do better
Not shocked Disco has no problem with it…
Im not surprised by kevs stamce on this, everyone knows hes been down with the brothas since the summer of 92
People like truth nash is playing the race card for clicks
Very true.
Carmelo, Bobby, trick, obi, mvp plenty of serious black guy kevin was just yapping 😂
Maybe because times change. And not everything is based off race.
It's not that deep. People are so obsessed with race that when plans change, it's always a race thing, it's never just creative has nothing for them.
he also got rid of elias, mad cat moss, and lacey, because he was never supporters of them and pushes his own favorites like gargano and champa..
wwe ruined keith lee from the start...he had potential to be the next mark henry..
This isn’t some opinion that Nash just started having. He’s had it for over thirty years. Like, how can the nWo take so much influence from black culture and get massively over, but black wrestlers are far more often booked ridiculously and give ridiculous gimmicks. That’s basically what he’s been saying.
Nash sounds hilarious "Don't act a fool"
Y’all, I’m a snowflake, no doubt. But Big Kev is a snowflake like no other. In the same discussion, he said black wrestlers are portrayed as basically clowns, and then mimics their voice.
The character is a holdover from the McMahon era. He's kinda right. Boogeyman, Booker T ('03), The New Day. The list goes on. Comedy is all very well, but Truth was an awesome champ in TNA. He can do much more than just this, IMO.
wwe cant do comedy its as simple as that...its vinces version of comedy and that isnt funny at all for the most part...
Doesn't seem to bother truth. Why can't people just mind their own business? This is a case of someone making this about themself.
I think over time Nash was correct on this.
which is better the miz turning on R-truth or R-truth turning on the miz?
Miz is much, much, much better as a heel. Truth is far too beloved right now to turn him. Likely they'll just part ways after losing the belts anyway.
Kevin Nash has done his Liberal act so many times that it's quite clear he doesn't mean it every time.
I agree 💯 with Kevin Nash said, what he said is totally true
They have featured black wrestlers as these narrow one-note attractions for years. It's either for their strength, agility or athleticism (i.e. Shelton and Kofi in the Rumble) and they get overlooked for championships way too often, or they're goofy cartoonish characters (New Day, Profits, R-Truth) and they get camera time but never taken seriously.
yea its so obvious none of them are going to win the big matches ,only the second tier matches that get them there..
Priest starts cracking up the moment R-Truth appears. I don’t know how Dom and JD keep their composure.
@@nickhughes8179 If they ever team R-Truth and Sami Zayn that roster won't have a snowballs chance in hell of keeping a straight face 😂

@@philwalsh8975 Raw doesn't get higher numbers because of who's on the show (unless it's the Rock or a tiny handful of others). Triple H is giving wrestlers the freedom to develop their own characters. R Truth is still acting a fool. That means he likes it.
R truth is for 5 year olds and they love him. End of story. No I don't find him funny, yes I skip his matches but you always go on about appealing to a wider audience.. WELL that's exactly what R-truth is. At least they don't insult the audience by trying to make him look competitive like Orange Cassidy
Wanna get clicks on wrestling podcast? Talk about race in wrestling. I tuned out when Kliq This turned into a morning joe.
I agree with Nash and the only hope we have is Carmelo Haynes Wes Lee Swerve Strickland and Trick williams

Nash didn’t lie, it’s been obvious. Disco using Eugene as an example was ridiculous when you have tons of other dominant Caucasian wrestlers.
So if you are black you aren't allowed to do comedy?
Say what you want about the Truth, but he has made it two decades in WWE as an in ring performer. There aren't ten people in history that can make that claim. Truth is near the top of the list in longevity, so if that doesn't count for something, then I don't know what does. He must be doing something right.
Kevin Nash might have a point.

And before The Nation gimmick for Simmons, look at what he had to wear when he was 1st brought in.
@@CoolCATs2814 He was a gladiator. That’s not the same as say, Papa Shango. Papa Shango and Kamala were stereotypes. Ron Simmons in a goofy plastic gladiator helmet and some navy and powder blue trunks is goofy but not racial stereotypes.
