I'm on board. As an American who prefers darker, self-deprecating humor, it feels like I might have been the victim of a trans-continental swap at birth. (And there's also the fact that on British chat shows you get to sit on a sofa with a bunch of people and relax a bit. Less of a job interview and more of an actual chat.)
As a British person who's dad's family comes from Sri Lanka I relate so much to this! When I visited people would speak Tamil or Sinhala to me and I'd just stare back blankly. The looks of disappointment when explained I only spoke English. I felt like a disgrace to my heritage XD
I'm from Canada and know the feeling. The embarrassment was one of the reasons I decided to learn French. I speak it reasonably well now but still wish I'd grown up bilingual.
Jonathan ross doesn't know how to do the whole more-than-one-celeb-on-sofa format. Jonathan doesn't help in creating a natural interaction between the celebs, and rather just takes turns talking to each of them whilst the others just sit silently looking ignored. I never get that vibe on the graham norton show ever.
Graham Norton is the only chat show host who engages with everyone on his sofa in same way and make them connect even if they are from different fields and don't know each other...some people are just naturally good at it and he is one of those
I noticed it too but think one of the factor is that Graham uses curved sofa so it helps celebs to maintain eye contact and then you can have more friendly conversation among celebs

Sri Lanka is such a magnificent country. Travelled around the whole country and I loved it. Even went right up north and I loved it. I would recommend it to anyone.
The way he speaks he gives a false notion to the audience that people living in Sri Lanka cannot converse in English. The fact is that this tiny island that was once colonized by the British and was called Ceylon changed its medium of instruction in education to English. Starting from my great grandparents they all had the privilege of studying in English and their own mother tongue became a second language in school. Today there are many private and international schools where the medium of instruction is in English and in state schools, it's taught as a second language. One has to be cautious and clear when presenting on public television rather than making a mockery of a county that is so rich and diverse in culture.
Romesh's brutal honesty about his family and pretty much everything is so refreshing and it's part of what makes him so bloody funny.
