- You all know what crested geckos and leachies, or leachianus geckos are, and you’ve watched the videos about sea turtles and sea kraits, but what about all the other cool reptiles that live in New Caledonia? Well, on this, the final video from New Caledonia, I take you out into the field with me and show you some of the lesser known reptiles we encountered on our expedition! I’ll introduce you to the bayavia gecko, and the green bellied tree skink and get you up close and personal with Rhacodactylus trachycephalus, the lesser rough-snouted giant gecko and much more! So come with me one more time to New Caledonia, and let’s check out some amazing reptiles!

Leachie geckos are like the tree boas of the gecko world. I like the eyes on those geckos.

Hey man these videos are like Dick Bartlett's "notes from the field" in the reptiles magazine back in the day! Except live with no need to imagine what it was like there! Your efforts are very much appreciated man!

awesome trip.
It totally was. Be sure to check out my Vlog channel for more
We need more rough snouted geckos in the pet trade
I have loved every New Caledonia video you've put out but this one is my favorite and has made me the most jealous haha. Amazing footage! Just wanted to point out that when you say "it's one of the only live bearing geckos on the planet. The OTHER ONE is in New Zealand" it sounds like you're saying there's only one other species of live bearing gecko which I'm sure you know is not the case. I think there's about 8 species of Naultinus recognized right now and one Hoplodactylus that are all live bearing and there may be more.
Thank you I'm really glad you enjoyed the videos. And yes I know but if I got to technical in my videos it would get boring so I just kind of gave the cliff notes on that fact
Accuracy isn't boring, Dav. A lot of hobbyists appreciate it. You don't have to go into intense detail but correct statements go a long way.
More wild behavior captures would be nicer since it's difficult to find a video tha show what they really do in the wild without interfering. I like your work cause u travel to the source, please show more like 90's national geo videos of the wild but more natural. I really want to see this and more in their natural habitat. Also do you know if there's a place that would sell new Caledonia or Madagascar natural tree barks?
Thanks, I'm glad you liked the video. Finny thing is I made a few videos in the Nat Geo style of documentary with my trip to Peru but the videos didn't do very well, so I changed my style a bit. And sorry, I don't know of any place that does.
Cool video. All New Zealand geckos are live-bearers though.
Robust forest bavayia arrived at our apartments just now, hiding from the cyclon. And I was looking for a bird because this guy makes noises like a baby magpie
Next up, a tour for a lot of the Gekko genus!
That would be awesome
Those speckled litter skinks are beautiful. They look like they're made out of bronze.
They do!
New Caledonia and New Zealand are what's left of Zealandia and I wonder why nothing related to the Tuatara managed to hang on in New Caledonia.
can you do a amphibian video, chinese crocodile lizard video, or borneo earless monitor
👍👍
Great video. Awesome to see these species in the wild. The music, however, is super-distracting IMO.
Did you found any Eurydactylodes?
dav after watching the very first episode from this set iv been thinking more and more about how i want to keep my geckos, im now thinking i want to go completely bio but with plants from new Caledonia , would you know anyone who can help me identify good plants for a terrarium that they would be on naturally in the wild ? or even a video or list of plants. if you cant thats fine , just thought id try and skip some of the hard work of researching myself lol xx
Sorry I don't. I'm not even sure if native New Caledonia plants are available
God you are so lucky! I want to go to new caledonia so bad lol my only question is why in none of the videos did we see any gargoyles?
They are only found on the main island and most of their habitat is gone from all the mining going on.
Hey did you see any snakes in there? Is the snakes in New Caledonia?
I did! Check it out here: ruclips.net/video/WXMx-0D8nbc/видео.html
So we're the cresties eating pangea in the wild?
Where do you think they got their formula? :)
Why did you go to New Caledonia and not talk about the Mniarogekko chahoua? I waited and no Chahoua what gives?
Sadly we looked, but didn't find them. I'm just going to have to go back :)
Very well done, except I'd rather hear the natural sounds than music.
What is a rattler?
Fans of this channel :)
