    I bought this exact trap and I've caught 2 chipmunks on consecutive days! Best trap I've ever owned/made!

    Go with the next size up trap (small with 2 doors). I caught 2 using peanuts. The doors are heavier to prevent them from getting out.

    This trap works great. I've found that raisins and peanuts (shelled) work excellent. The smell of the peanuts is strong enough to lure them in. Put the trap in a shaded or dark area or behind a hedge or plant. Not out in the open. They will hit it faster if they feel safe behind something or out of the sunlight.

    Ive caught 18 chipmunks in just a week of having one of these. Wish I had purchased years before. Peanut butter with a few sunflower seeds works great

    I've used these with peanut butter or cheese. Never caught anything but ants! I finally spotted a chipmunk running into the downspout. I put the open door at the end of the downspout and shook the spout hard enough till he ran into the trap.

    You'll increase your success rate dramatically by painting the trap a matt brown and green combination. Also, I've found strawberries to be the best bait.

    We had the plastic traps, but there are so many other animals, grey squirrels, skunks, etc. that we found the traps across the yard, with the bait door missing. Trying this one. 🙏

    I had a skunk of mine once. Also, when squirrels go in there, they get wild and they flip around with that trap and damage it.

    i caught a raccoon in one of those once. or at least a raccoon sized version of that cage. IT WAS NOT ITS FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH A CAGE OF THIS SORT!
    the next morning it had escaped. my guess is it had outside help cause there is no way it could be opened from inside. sneaky raccoons

    This is what I believe. The mouse climbs up on a platform. The mouse weight tilts the platform. The down ramp opens the catch chamber. The mouse goes down and steps off the ramp. The platform springs up. The entrance is closed and the mouse is caught.

    This trap is awesome! I've caught five chipmunks in less than a week. Would recommend this trap to anyone wanting to trap chipmunks. I did have to tweek the trip plate but after that it worked like a charm.

    • @elaineadams2255
      @elaineadams2255 4 года назад

      How do you tweak the trap plate?

    • @michaelmclaughlin6345
      @michaelmclaughlin6345 4 года назад

      The plate teeters like a seesaw so if the bar it rests on is not straight it will bind on the sides and prevent the plate from moving freely. I turned the trap over and straightened it out with a pair of plyers. Easy fix and the trap works great now.

    we had a double door one of theese and a super smart chipmunk in our basement and we tried to get it in the trap and tunneled it and it went threw a whole in the wall so it refused to go in the trap and took all the bait without setting off the trap so we had no choice but to shoot it

    Chipmunks are so cute, once I get one peanuts out of my hand, Well I didn't feed him I gave them to him to hide for the winter. He was so cute every once in a while he would nibble my finger, not enough to hurt tho. Very cute he was very brave

    HI MTG! I've been using these for a while now... particularly in the garden. ON rare occasions, particularly after the traps have been outside (the safety clip rusts btw) the sliding door sometimes just gets stuck part way down. Do you lubricate the slide channels with anything? What do you recommend? They do work! I've caught rats and voles but often find the trap half sprung with the bait gone... Thank You as always! :)

    • @MousetrapGenius
      @MousetrapGenius  8 лет назад +1

      Hi Fred, good hear from you! To be honest we've mostly used these traps inside so we haven't encountered that issue. Lubricating it sounds like a fine idea, but I think using something like vegetable oil would be advisable. WD-40 is likely to keep the little guys away ;)

    • @FrederickDunn
      @FrederickDunn 8 лет назад

      OH ya.. not to mention that WD-40 would possibly melt the plastic... :) Thanks!

      "Do you lubricate the slide channels with anything? What do you recommend?" I haven't need to yet, but you need an odourless solid lubrication.
      A solid lubricant like French-chalk (this is powdered talc - but not the scented-type - talcum-powder, but a block of talc typically comes with a bicycle puncture repair kit. It's very soft and can be powdered with a file), or graphite powder, as used for locks (from a hardware store).

    Trap works great until the latch breaks at the rivet, and the chipmunk can get out. Havahart won’t sell you a new part, as they want you to buy a new trap. Finished with Havahart.

    So you used the GoPro camera to film the moment of capture? Did you just set up the GoPro and left it recording? If so, the battery and film card must be able to record for more than a couple of hours?? Or is there some sort of motion sensing device connected to the GoPro that will trigger the recording to start??

    • @ricaspinto

      you can charge and film at the same time (thats battery taken care of), and memory: i guess a 64gb will work if the resoulution isnt too high

    Realising seems to be a bad idea. You are releasing a new sexual partner into a community of rodents that may be tired of mating with their cousins. The end result is that they may start breeding like rabbits.
