- Produced by Nick Lowe, who also played bass on the track, "Whole Wide World" is probably the best known track of English rock / new wave singer Wreckess Eric. More than two decades after its release, it was included on Mojo Magazine's list of best punk rock singles of all time! The song has since been covered by Lightning Seeds, The Monkees, The Proclaimers, and Paul Westerberg, among others.

At the time Stiff had a policy of only releasing 1 production run of any single. I put my order in at my local (London) record shop. When I returned the next week I was told that there were no copies left. I ended up buying an Import Stiff Records compilation (from Italy) album to get the track. It was brilliant, as it had tracks by Elvis Costello, Ian Dury,, and Motorhead, as well as Reconnez Cherie. Whole Side World was still the best thing on it, though.
His first few albums are full of quality tunes
Best fucking pop song ever ever ever
Very nice!
Theres a good video of Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds in the studio circa 79, Nick gets progressively drunker, by the end hes totally pissed( not angry, drunk, lol)and looks quite unwell.
one of the greatest records ive ever heard, leaves me with two burning questions, why was it never huge and ive always wondered if Eric ever did find her?
He did: her name is Amy Rigby.
@@walterrizotto8668made some great songs together, can’t get enough of Tropical Fish
I am a big fan of "Excuse Me" and "Reconnez Cherie"
Respected Eric? Why not! :-)
"Whole wide world" was great, but "take the cash (take the KASH)" was much better.
Yeah great
And Pop Song is epic as well.
Why oh why didn't he become massive??????
Called cult
Every group couldn't be a huge popular success; and he was in another country.
