This was amazing. Burke is the only former GM to flood the world with inside information and knowledge of hockey operations that we wouldn't have gotten otherwise.
I met Brian Burke in the Toronto airport many many years ago was on my way home from an old man hockey tournament. I went up introduce myself shook his hand and told him I’d love to hear all his experiences in a book I’ve been following him through the hockey news there really wasn’t that much hockey news down in the states in the 90s. He was very polite he asked me sheepishly if I would like an autograph I said real men don’t ask for autographs from other men he laughed and we sat down at the bar and had two drinks and just talked hockey amazing man I’ve shared this interview on three other platforms great job guys
Gave him an uber ride a few months back in Toronto. Had a short ride but a nice chat. Good guy and agreed with me that Don Cherry didn't deserve to be treated so disrespectfully.

Love Burke, dude is old school and he knows hockey with the best of them. I am amazed that he was this open in this interview because he definitely seems very reserved when he's on TV, especially when he's talking to Duthie 🤣🤣
Burkie can be controversial, hard headed and come across as rude to some....BUT you cannot deny that he is a GREAT interview. Full of knowledge, willing to share stories from behind the scenes. Need more like him in hockey.
They cut him off too many times. I would have loved to have heard the rest of the Pat Quinn Bobby Orr story or the Gary Bittman trying to explain complicated negotiating to the NHLPA, but these clowns kept interrupting.
I was introduced to Brian burke just a couple years ago and I love him. For the most part I think he's on point with where the league needs to go. He carries the spirit of the game with him everywhere he goes and he loves the game.
Really great to get the front office point of view and stories. Plus Brian Burke has developed into a living legend. Wish a coach or two could have a sit down with the Chiclets.
USA hockey is Brian Burke. Very grateful for his time in Anaheim building that Stanley Cup team for us. This guy has built teams everywhere he’s been. Look at his time in Anaheim and building that squad.
If espn truly wants to tap into the hockey market, I see biz on there, but you wanna sign a guy like bb for big money. This’s a dude who can give insight no one else can. Unreal human. God bless bb
Brain I had the pleasure of having your brother Doc visit our plant in Indiana. Always looked forward to us talkin Hockey. Missing the NHL Network and seeing you on Friday's.
I don't even boo Bettman out of hate anymore. I've come to realize he does a great job on the business side of things. Plus, he takes all the boo's and heckles really well and I respect that.
I never knew that Burkie was a bruiser!!! Makes me love him even more!! My old colleague at work would always get irritated by the whole tie thing.."Are you going to put it on or take it off?? Make a decision!! he would say. LOL
Yes... the backup goalie coming in and getting the W was one of the greatest stories in the NHL in years. "Let's do away with it, immediately!" Brilliant
Also, that's the poetry of hockey. It turns sacrifice into a gift and celebrates it. Ted Lindsay said once, I think: "It's me for you, and you for me." and in hockey we love the 4th liner who blocks a shot so his team can win. That Jay Baruchel movie that had Doug Glatt, perfectly encapsulates the team dynamic between the skilled guys (who the analytics peeps love) and the grunts who play the hard things because they love their teammates. Marshall McLuhan brought up the stats keeping thing LOOOONG ago as something that would dominate the sports, because it was going to be the financial peeps who love those things who would come to dominate the business of hocey, because they would be able to speak the language of those who could buy teams. That's why I love Green Bay, and I don't even really like American Football lol
Needs to get a first for Malkin and a first for Letang and Carter combined to prevent self implosion by 2024 do it Burke Merry Christmas and a Happy Boo Year 🇨🇦
the guy in the blue hat is interrupting the flow of the interview....he has no feeling for it at all...he is asking ok questions at the wrong time repeatedly... you can even see the internal cringe on the faces of the other two guys, who have a great raport with each other and the guest as well, i noticed this in their other interviews , may be a good idea to leave the blue hat guy behind the scenes, it would elevate the whole show...just my two cents
You aren't wrong. He has good, well researched questions, he's just got to read the rhythm of the interview better. I feel for him a bit because he doesn't have the same hockey pedigree/relationships as Biz and Whit, so there isn't the same type of inside chat that the hockey gang can achieve
The story Orr tells about the Quinn hit is later in that series some mafia-looking dude comes up to him in the lobby of the hotel and quietly asks "do you want me to take care of Pat Quinn for you?" Bobby or course goes "What? No!" But yeah, apparently that happened. A guy was literally prepared to bump Quinn off because he hit Orr.
Sorry to interrupt, but every time I see a PB Spittin Chiclets interview I am always reminded of the time when a porn actress said he was the worst "celebrity" athlete she ever encountered. I would love to hear Spittin's reaction to her claim.
@@user-bf5vi6yg8n Oh god, I don't know. For reasons I don't recall, she was being interviewed on sports talk radio to promote something or another before the hosts started asking her about interactions with sports stars and celebrities.
If a fourth goalie came in & won a playoff game, it would be an amazing story. Those are the things you need to keep in the rulebook in my opinion, & the chances are slim and if it happens, suck it up buttercup.
As an Av fan,I wouldve taken that 42yr old beer league guy-ANYDAY-over Hunter Miska. Who was the backup goalie, for the Cup favorites,& in 5 or 6 terrible starts-had the 3rd worst stats in the NHL, in last 30 yrs or so. Despite playing behind arguably the deepest deffense/best defensive team on earth. Now,we traded for Johansen,& I don't think he's gonna be the answer either..was pretty bad in Buffalo,& not great in his 1st game with the Avs. But he was playing behind a joke of a team,& unlike Miska-at least has some potential. Miska has never been a heralded prospect-at all-even when he played pretty good in AHL. Johansen was an AHL All Star,& might turn into something eventually. But he probably isnt ready to be an NHL backup yet-let alone for the Cup favorites. I'd probably take that beer league NOW,over Johansen-but no question I'd take him over Miska.
Ryan, can you be honest and say if there was a breakaway hockey league that allowed you to play less games and make more than the career earning of the NHL's all time highest paid player you would turn it down? Be honest.
This was amazing. Burke is the only former GM to flood the world with inside information and knowledge of hockey operations that we wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

I wanna see Burke dye his hair lol would knock 20 years off
Let's go to Turkey and get hair plugs!
I went bald at 20 lol 😅
you have got to respect Burke and how professional he is, great interview.
This is the one interview I've been waiting for! A real hockey guy talking real hockey shit! The game has been lacking people like BB for a while!

Pure class. Nothing but respect for Burke. Dude knows hockey, can tell a great story, and is an excellent speaker. What an interview.
Cool interview, what class act and so cool to hear his insights

Brian Burke such a legend glad Pittsburgh picked him up
The Bieksa story is so top notch 👌

That was a lot of fun. Burke rules.
Been waiting for some classic Burkey....thanks boyzzzzzz

42 isn’t THAT old for a goalie, in my 40s I wasn’t as fast of a runner, but my reflexes and strength were the same as in my early 30s.
"Gary is a brilliant guy" - Burke
"Yeah, he's trying" - Biz
The sisters of St Joseph would say (before the whack): “don’t give me any of your truck young man” - Truck the short version of truculence
Burke is making too much sense when he talks about hits in the NHL, liking a game with lots of truculence, the scheduling, etc.
