- A loose spiritual successor to "A Dark Night for Bert" by theburiedtruck
Bert's been tempered by the ghost of a deceased steam engine. Arry, though, is a different story. A trip to the mainland will have a lasting affect on the second Iron Twin.
Thank you to all the voice actors who made this an amazing story!
MEGA THANKS to the GencyFan23 for their stunning artwork that you saw in this video as well. Visit their Twitter page here: Th...
My god this was unsettling.
I remember the story where James encountered a line of 08 shunters. They were tired and weary, no longer able to fight their fate.
This was worse. Hearing the voices still filled with hope. A desperate, paper thin hope, but hope nonetheless.
Arry’s voice acting was superb, it really drew me into the setting, made it feel real!
Thank you for such a delightfully scary story
That's true, this was however after James and Duck met diesel on the other railway.
This would actually make a good sequel to 'A Dark Night for Bert'. Look forward to the next story.
It actually is a sequel. A fan made one more specifically.
It’s a great sequel too ngl
That bit with Arry being crowded by the diesels made me realise how *lucky* Oliver, Isabel and Toad in their own situation. Douglas found the trio just by chance, and, having been a fugitive himself, didn't think twice about the situation. Not to mention that another engine, coach and brake van were needed on Sodor. It'd be very unlikely, almost impossible, for Sir Topham Hatt to save so many engines at once as Arry had found. It's a harsh reality of being an engine. Well done on this story.
Now that is quite a bone-chilling, yet sinister story! It reminded me of The Truth About Scrap, Diesel's Demons and Bert's Redemption, only this time 'Arry learns the harsh truth about scrap and how it's not just steam engines but also diesels, even from before he used to be blinded when he and his kind were first built yet still not knowing what would come next. Wonder how D10 would also react about his kind being scrapped as well (aside from that one episode in Sodor the Magic Within).
Also, that withdrawn diesel's face flickering from alive to parish does creep me out a bit.
I bet Diesel 10 would freak out and have a panic attack
@@JohntheLNERP2 Also, considering Diesel 10 is a BR class 42 diesel hydraulic and how British rail consider Diesel hydraulic inferior. I don't think Diesel 10 would even be boasting to steam engine that they are outdated if he was a outdated diesel himself.
@@whoknows1990 definitely
Some Diesels were replaced By more fuel efficient diesel electric locomotives and electric locomotives.
And Diesel Hydraulics were replaced by Diesel electrics
Of all the engines to learn the harsh truth about scrap, I think Arry's experience was the most scarring. Bert learnt it from one engine, James learnt it from a number of diesels that accepted their fate, but Arry had to learn it from a group of diesels that grovelled at him and fought each other for sanctuary and when he left, the last thing they called was a traitor.
Nice work, of all the scrapping horror stories, this was the best. Well done, cheers and keep up the cracking work.
Aww shucks, you are too kind! I'm glad you liked it!
This was amazing, and others making comparisons to a dark night for bert and bert's redemption. I consider this the part 3 of a story. 1 is Bert's talk or hallucination with the scrap engine, then his shock at scrapping a diesel and his understanding of the steam engines, then to Arry seeing how his own kind are as they await the cutters torch, sort of like a large scale journey for the twins as the bubble of their minds pops.
I also think it adds because Arry may have known about big diesels being scrapped, but always thought that the reliable shunters like him and diesel would always be necessary because of how many their were. Sadly, those numbers just show how expendable they are. It's one thing to see a rusted and dead engine going to be destroyed, it's another to see them alive and lined up, waiting as death approaches them. Great work.
*Year, 1967*
Steam Engine: **Coughs and wheezes as they’re shunted into the smelters shed** Your class of engine might be the greatest… but for how long?”
Diesel Shunter: “why forever you rusted claptrap! Railways have just begun pumping us out, course they know what they’re doing, else-wise they wouldn’t have told us we were better than you kettles ever could be!” **Cackles and oils away**
*Year, 2010*
Same Diesel Shunter: **Coughs and splutters to a stop, and after a few days is shunted into a siding by an electric locomotive**
Electric Shunter: “Move it you rustbucket! Not even 30 seconds and you’ve already gotten my buffers dirty!” **Their engine hummed as they let the Diesel glide on the rails and bump hard into a old set of buffers**
Diesel Shunter: **Winged at the bump as they were shunted next to a already rusted husk of their sibling** “Hey, can’t a old engine rest in piec-“ **Flashback as a steam engine asked the same thing** “… just leave…”
Electric Engine: “Fine by me. Senile old fool” **Glides away to get back to their new job, which was to take the Diesel’s**
History repeats itself.
It what they call: "evolution in time"
you’ve outdone yourself with this one, excited to see the next one !!
Aww shucks. I'm glad you enjoyed it! Twas an okay story I think I think the next one is better
@@22Tesla reminds me truth about scrap but l think this fits arry better in a way not that James wasn’t a good choice but l feel like a diesel will be far more traumatized by seeing his own class scaped
@@22Tesla How Could You Just Say "Twas An OK Story" Mate?? It Was A Brilliant Story. Nice To See That Arry Got A Taste Of His Own Medicine, In A Way. Also, I Think That This Story And The Wandering Coach Definitely Deserve A Trainz Remake.
@@22Tesla do you do art for people?
Those end credits creeped me the hell out. Well done on a good story.
Ooooh! Now that was spooky! I guess Arry and Bert won’t be teasing the engines about scrap anymore.
Well done!
Random people: there just machines they don't have feelings
Me: shows them this vid
Something I've noticed is that this in some ways contrasts Awdry's story where Douglas saves Oliver. In that one, Douglas (who was also a survivor of the Great Scrapping) saves Oliver from scrap. By contrast, 'Arry, when he faces the truth chooses to run away when confronted with his own mortality.
True, though Douglas met only one steam engine during his trip to the mainland who was fleeing scrap like how he did. Arry faced a mob of desperate diesels who were desperate for escape a fate that he thought he was always exempt from. A dark reflection of the Awdry story.
It's quite satisfying to see them both finally realised that someday they will be scrapped and replaced by much more modern and reliable diesel. ( And electric engines)
I wanna point out that a few class O8 shunters are still in service but it’s only in industrial areas but it shows they really were a head of there times. A few others were also preserved.
Yeah, stuck in industry, or hiding on heritage lines with the steam engines they replaced. Ironic indeed
@@22Tesla I can imagine on heritage sites steam engines had some sympathy for any preserved older diesels after they accept the cold hard truth that eventually they all get replaced and no vehicle safe from the torch.
Also If you were a diesels engine that wanted steam engines gone what would your initial reaction be to see not even diesels are safe from being replaced?
While quite similar to NarrowGauge's The Truth About Scrap, I still like how is a sequel to The Spectre's Warning!! The animation at the climax of the story when the lights flicker is best animation I've seen for a Thomas Horror Story!! Wonderful job! And what you did when the credits rolled is absolutely chilling!!
Hehehe yeah, I know but I'm glad you liked it all the same! :)
i never expected that arry learned about it after a few months when bert encountered, but at least they have changed a bit after learning both truths about scrap. anyway, nice job on making the audio story.
Looks like Arry & Bert somewhat redeemed themselves; in dark way. They both finally learned that was not just steam engines being scrapped, but diesels as well.
I love it I love how it take place after Bert event with a ghost steam engine I love the hint to the truth of scrap and I love the cry’s of the diesels at the ends
I like how there is a blink and you'll miss shot where the faces of the diesels are replaced by a dark hole with blood around it and blood dripping off the claw looming over them.
The face of that diesel is eerily similar to the one of that unfortunate steam engine in the first image of "Bluebells of England".
Whoa. Now this story chilled me to the bone. I like it!
I got really creeped out when they realised that he was a Sudrian engine and started begging him to take them with him, it reminds me of how the little boy who can see gets swamped by blind adults in Day of the Triffids
I think Arry got a good dose of reality that he is not modern anymore but instead out of date.
The fact that you can see the scrapped diesels briefly have no face as the lights flicker truly sets the scene that these diesel shunters are truly doomed awaiting fate
This really is a brilliant story! Great work!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@22Tesla I sure did!👍
This is amazing. Glad to see a almost direct sequel to A Dark Night For Bert.
@22Tesla Amazing. This is what I was looking for in one of these scrap stories. The real raw emotion behind an engine's unavoidable death.
When I think of engines getting scrapped I don't think of them just quietly accepting their fate. I imagine many of them would be begging and pleading the way these diesels did. I mean, if you were for certain to die and you somehow found a way to cheat death, wouldn't you beg in the same way? It's the human aspect of these living locos that draws us to the Thomas franchise in the first place - they're just like us.
This side of the ends of engines is never explored because it's extremely uncomfortable, much like the truth in real life it's easier to tell a softer lie than face reality. Most of these engines probably met their end the same way people who are murdered do: crying, screaming, and begging for a way out.
Although it's extremely difficult to portray something like this, I thank you for having the guts to do it. This really drives home the finality of scrapping and the sorrow and desperation behind the end of each engine.
Well done Tesla. You are a true storyteller.
This is a great start to the four stories man. This really does feel like a continuation from the Buried Trucks Story a Dark night for bert. But I got to ask is there a script to the story as I would love to adopt it one day.
HEheh thanks! I'm glad you liked it. As for a script, I'll post a link to that on my Twitter sometime tonight
*Adapt
The end of that gave me goosebumps and tears in my eyes! It was awful but so right. Thank you for that.
HEheh glad to hear I got that kind of reaction :) Wait till the next stories come out.
Awesome Work! I loved that you made a sequel to A dark night for Bert
I like how you made this different to how it was with James.
I saw the hollowness in 1 of those diesels, which reminds me of the hotr video "the truth about scrap".
It's kinda rare to hear a diesel wishing to be a steam engine bc they describe them as "timeless" and "precious"
You could continue the story in the Arry with Boco & Edward talking about what he saw that night!^^
Great idea
Great story. It's almost gut-wrenching to hear the pleading sobs of the old Diesels begging 'Arry to take them with him. I don't know what I'd do if it had been me. It's always sad when the life of a train comes to an end.
Unfortunately.. I do too.. and it's not a happy thought..
That was pretty creepy. An excellent Halloween story in my book
This is amazing. It's even more dark than I thought it would be. Looking forward to more.
This gives me “The Truth About Scrap” vibes
I really like how Arry and Bert learn that they’re going be scraped along with the steam engines.
I really like your series Tales from the Scrap Siding what brings me to the question: will you make more of Tales from the Scrap Sidings next year ?
8:56 idk if anyone saw this or this was intended but the diesel near the left looks like it says “Crap” instead of scrap idk if I’m just reading wrong
This is fantastic! I loved it!
This is an Amazing unofficial sequel to A Dark Night for Bert
Oh my god, it made me cry hearing such things like this
Amazing job with the video it really didn't give me the chills it's nice to see another story like this I do feel sorry for the iron Twins and all the other diesels on Sodor they probably went through as much pain and suffering to find out that they're siblings and friends from the other railway are dead/scrapped
I think the first diesel would be a Class 66 and the second a Class 60.
That’s a good guess. Which would mean that the story takes place during the 1980s or 1990s
Well I don't have sympathy for those diesels they brought their fates upon themselves ever since they made the steam engines suffer so this is pure karma
Dang right
That's a little harsh, in a way.
The sad matter of fact is, regardless of how they treated steam engines, these diesels were always going to end up here, and all because some man at BR said "We've done well but we can do better.."
@@flashstudiosguy I know it's harsh but that's just the way I feel towards the diesels on the other railway
@@JohntheLNERP2 Yeah, ik
Too right John! Those diesels shouldn't have tormented the steamers.
Wow this amazing story and unsettling at the same time 😱
Now i dunno why vut i want to hear the cutters rorch, ending the class 08 shunters.
A sad fate, but one needed to be informed about.
I'd say the first diesel wasn't rude to 'Arry out of futurist prejudice, but because of electrification happening, making him have grief and taking it out on another engine, said engine happening to be 'Arry. After all, the news wouldn't talk about a bunch of new kinds of diesels, that wouldn't be special enough, it would talk about a new locomotive power type, as in electric, taking charge in Britain.
This is great story! I hope for a Trainz version!
Man I really pity those poor souls of diesels! 😢 😭 😔 I really wish that Arry took the time to save them all, not just for Sodor but for other railway museums too. I know that some people really dig the steam engines existence and their fate, but I really dig the diesels even more. People hate on the diesels for killing the steam engines, but it wasn’t their fault the staff of the other railway brainwashed them into tormenting the steamers. I know that so diesels shouldn’t have badmouthed the steam engines or put them down, but they were doing what they thought was the right thing. Plus when the face the scrapper itself, they believe that nobody wants to preserve diesels onto choosing to save steam engines as they are the “kings of the railways”, If I had the chance, I’d save every diesel I could.
Good job!
Although I'm a Christian you've earnt yourself another subscriber.
This felt like The Truth About Scrap, but better. James has gotten humiliated too regularly and now it's Arry's turn to get some much needed karma.
Why does you being a Christian matter I’m confused 😅

Very well written and narrated, thoroughly enjoyed!
very good story
Okay, all those who were profoundly creeped out by the audio of the credits, say aye.
This has been done with James and d 10 and now arry!?! It seems like Sodor is learning about 1984 Britain
I feel so bad for the diesels… :(
I wonder if the bit with Henry was foreshadowing for Tunnel Vision.
