DIY Hair Strengthening and Moisturizing Mask !

Hi everybody! In this video, I’m going to share with you my D.I.Y hair strengthening and moisturizing mask that provides shine, elasticity, and softness.
I apply this hair mask before shampooing and I only use one ingredient, coconut milk.
I pour the coconut milk into a bowl and then I divide my hair into sections. Here I’m making 6 sections and then applying the mask.
To make sure I apply the mask everywhere I divide the sections again making them even smaller for more coverage.
Then, I finger detangle my hair a bit and massage in the coconut milk.
To finish, I take a section of my hair and braid it to help the mask soak in even more.
I do this for each of the sections.
I’ll show you again.
(I also like to dip the ends of my hair into the mask)
Voilà! I’ve finished applying the hair mask.
I let the mask sit on my hair for about one to two hours under a plastic bag with a towel wrapped around for additional heat.
The coconut milk brand that I use is Suzi Wan. This coconut milk brand contains 64% coconut extract which has lauric acid that soaks into the hair fibre and strengthens it from the inside.
Lauric Acid also helps to retain the right amount of moisture, preventing hygral fatigue.
This coconut milk also contains Water (of course) for moisture and Guar Gum & Xanthan Gum that help with moisture retention and adding softness to the hair.
Finally, it has Carrageenan which also helps with moisture retention, makes the hair soft and shiny, helps with detangling, and makes the hair smooth by building a protective film on it, almost like silicon.
This is why I specifically use Suzi Wan coconut milk; the additional ingredients pretty much make a complete hair mask.
After about 1 to 2 hours, I rinse out the hair mask with warm water, clean my scalp with a mild shampoo and then remove the coconut smell of the mask from my hair with a scented conditioner.
Here is the result from the next day!

You've got beautiful hair. I also use coconut milk on hair, either on it's own or with henna to make a henna gloss. I got my own coconut to make the milk. My hair is also similar in thickness and length.

This is an excellent video. I went to Whole Food and purchased my coconut milk. I have been doing the mask once a week since I learned of the great benefits it offers. I keep the coconut milk supply. Thank you for sharing. I made a slight mistake by leaving the mask on for only twenty minutes. I'll shoot for a hour or two. Ooops my bad.

I wouldn’t say so as this is very light protein type treatment. But If u do it like she did, your hair will thank u for it🤩🤗 hope this helps

I do this mask at least twice a year. You can do this mask once a month if you like for as long as you want to if your hair responds well to it.

Hi Queen ! I don't use the racist hair type chart. I just say that I have afro hair, natural hair, kinky hair or coily hair. I think my hair is low porosity but I will need to do some experiments to confirm.

Thank you so much ! Yes I still use the coconut milk. Coconut milk has the reputation to contribute to hair growth but I haven't read studies about this yet. I mainly use it to strengthen and make my hair softer.

Is your hair fine textured? And what is your hair type? How do u usually wear your hair?
I have different hair strands' diameters from what I've noticed. My hair is kinky. I wear my hair in twists and buns a lot (but buns sometimes break my hair off so I have to be careful).
Thank you for mentioning what is in the milk-the carragean is in alot of foods-it is used as a thickner but when it hits the belly it swell like gel(not good for belly).
I may think to try the milk(dont think i can get that brand) to do the mask with,withour drinking it-i live coconut milk n oil to cook with,lol

I have applied coconut milk combined with Rice milk. And stay in showercap for 2 hours and l rinse with warm water after then wash with coconut shampoo and l aplied some coconut oil mix together with castor oil and olive oil and then cover my hair with a cloth Will this work. to grow up my hair
Yes it helps but you will have to implement a hair care regiment and be consistent.

Nice, but what kind of condition was that and what was in the yellow bottle
It's a replenishing conditioner from Weleda bit.ly/ReplenishingConditioner. And the yellow bottle is a light shampoo with yellow clay. I used it only once or twice. I was back home in Guadeloupe when I filmed the video, I don't have this shampoo with me here in Sweden.

Is that product available in the States?
I've checked on Amazon and unfortunately the product does not seem to be available in the States. But maybe you can check out in any grocery store an other coconut milk brand that uses guar gum, xanthan gum and carrageenan.
I couldn't get coconut milk. Instead l get coconut milk combined with Rice milk. Will it work

Can you use coconut water instead?
You will not get the same result. Coconut milk is rich in fats. Fats are important for healthy hair. 🙂

Hi ! I know for the controversy about Carrageenan. It's not sure if Carrageenan causes cancer or not but it's better to not consume it because we don't really know.
I used to drink this milk from this brand but I stopped and used it for my hair instead (Carrageenan has some benefits for hair).

It’s so frustrating bc I watch all of these long hair gurus and everyone does something totally different. Some do things that are absolute NO NOs to others and vice versa. All it does is confuse people. Well, me, anyway. It’s like everyone is saying, “do this and you will have long hair like me.” But the next one did something totally opposite and said don’t do something that you did. Just makes me want to bang my head against a wall. I think I just need a RUclips break. Just keep my simple regimen and watch my own hair grow. And remember there is no miracle growth process. Patience is the key.
Yes my advice is to keep it simple. And the more you know about natural hair the clearer it will become. You can take a break if you need to. 🤗
