It’s been sixty years since I’ve done this. I haven’t forgotten how to handle an M1 Garand rifle and in my mind’s-eye I can still spin and do a rolling toss to my platoon members. Eventually, I became platoon Commander and I truly missed the M1. As CO, I wore a Sam-Black with a saber and there’s not much showing off one can do with it alone.
About 20 years ago I was visiting a friend who happened to own an M1 and I told him how I used to handle one. He placed it in my lap and said, go for it. So we went outside and it was like riding a bike, you never forget how to do it. I was a bit slower than before and I certainly didn’t have the “snap“ that I used to have, but it was good enough that his family applauded my meager performance. Most importantly, I didn’t drop it!

@@camelo1495 They're not soldier's. They're Marines and try to show a little respect. At least they had the balls to join while you just sit behind your phone, computer and gaming console. Go and try and do what they do and go what they been through to EARN that uniform like them and they're fellow brothers and sisters in the other branches did. Each earned their titles and ranks. Especially since they left home and sacrificed their individual times to defend the country they swore to serve and protect. They may be called to battle at any given day or night and may not ever be able to come back home in one piece. They knew what they signed up for and still moving forward with their promise. How many cam say the same? You Sure can't. Try to more appreciative about what our men and women in uniform do. You go to sleep soundly at night while other people in other countries have to stay up with their families, friends, neighbors and relatives listening to repeated gun fire and bombings. She does not use auto tune and I believe 90% of the population enjoy her music compared to the niche group of people who want to sit in silence for 30 minutes watching dude rub all over guns. It’s completely fine to like both thing, but comparing them is idiotic. Why would you say that? Are the women lesser, and to blame, and to be looked down upon because they were not allowed to enter military service up until very recently? Why are you blaming women and looking down on them for the fact they were not permitted to go and fight for their country? Nobody is putting the men who fought and died down. Nobody should put women who fought and died down. How dare you disrespect the sacrifice of great patriots? What makes you think we're not allowed to thank them? What makes you think we can only thank the men?

As much is it was an honor to be at 8th and I, it's the best and worse place a Marine can be stationed. 110% perfection takes hours of work, sometimes 16 hours straight a day, and the fear of messing up just one small time in the slightest fashion is the highest stress in all to endure. If you think you have a general idea if what it takes to be on this team, multiply it by 10. In this platoon, 100% perfection is slacking.

I don't care how many times I watch these guys do performances it's always amazing. If you've never had to do any type of drill with a weapon you have no idea how difficult what they are doing really is. The dedication, time and talent it takes to be that controlled is very impressive. Wearing cloth gloves doesn't make it any easier, you lose that sense of touch against the weapon.
