  • I’ve been abusing all my tools recently, I needed to make a wooden mallet to quit tearing up all my chisels. I was just going to throw something together, but instead decided to make something pretty unique in this video.

    Watching you work on the table saw it's scary, it reminds me of how I do things, lol. Great video, I might try out something similar, it have me some new ideas. Keep them coming.

    Fabulous! The only thing I would have done differently is the handle. I would have reversed the wood so the purple was on the outside and then made the top of the handle align with the purple wood in the head so that it would look like the darker wood "flowed" from the head to the handle. This video has inspired me.

      Totally agree with you, the whole time I was concerned about breaking up the mallet and thought the Maple overpowered the Purple Heart, that would have been a nice touch!

    This is a beautiful mallet. Did you do anything to keep the purpleheart from turning brown over time?

    • @riverjackstudio
      @riverjackstudio  Год назад

      Just tung oil, in my experience it won’t brown for quite a while if kept out of the sun/oxidation, and I can just go back and re-sand/re-finish. I’ve done wax finishes before and I’ll apply it before the Purple Heart regains it’s color from sanding and it’ll actually turn colors over a longer period of time from a grey to deep purple, then eventually to brown.

    Great Job nice looking Mallet. I'm curious though how much $ did you put into it you think?

      @riverjackstudio  Год назад +1

      Materials wasn’t much around $15, but I probably spent around 8-10 hours on labor.

    To be honest, I wouldn't use this mallet for anything! It's way too beautiful to bang it on a chisel/ joinery or anything for that matter! 😊

      Well you’re going to have to skip several parts in my next video because I start out the gate abusing it haha. Appreciate the compliment!
