I was over in Los Angeles and at the time I was a smoker. I went into a liquor store and all I said to the clerk was "I need a carton of Salem" and he smiled and looked at me and said " You're from Baltimore". Howd he know. I dont have an accent, everybody else does.
Wow this video is so good! That's exactly the accent! I'm a Marylander and I don't have this accent, but I was looking for a video of it because it reminds me of friends and relatives, and it's so comforting. Makes me wanna go "dow neee oshin" right now!
I'm glad they posted this! I've always wondered if pale folks in Bmore talked anything like brown folks in Bmore! They ji like talk similar with certain words, but not all words! So far, I haven't heard pale folks use the stretched to, do, you, and I haven't heard this other part of the bmore accent that I can't explain with words!
so what I'm picking up is that a Bmore accent sounds like if people from Boston/New England were somehow from the South. it's so unique that's the only way I can describe it
The Baltimore/ Philly/ Atlantic City accent is pretty close to our Pittsburgh accent. But we dont say wooder. That's my favorite one. We say yuns and yinz, you say yous. Accents are the best. Lol. We say ignert too.
My mom had a heavy Baltimore accent but I grew up in a small farm town about an hour north. I could never figure out why she said her words "weird". Now I know lol I've been watching the Baltimore accent videos. I can hear traces of it in my own way of speaking, probably a combo of Baltimorean parents and a small farm town accent. I understand everything the Bmore accent videos say even without subtitles 😂🤣
I live a little ways out from Baltimore, and we still get people who sound like this out here. It kind of disperses inward from the coast, and the accent gets slightly less thick as you move away from the Chesapeake.
As a MD native, still living in B-more, this is so true! 😂
The American Aussies haha
Baltimore Man: “Are you ready to go down to the ocean?”
West Coaster: “I’m ready to go maaaaan….
…but my name isn’t Danny 8-Shins.”
You can be robbed a gunpoint so many times, how tf you still live there?

Southern accent + 🇬🇧 + NY accent = Baltimore accent
Probably true.
Spot on.

Heard this accent in South Baltimore, people who have now been priced out the area due to development..
My neighbor was from Locust Point.
Minds me slight bit of Cumberland... Plenty of fam up there 301
Sounds like a mixture of southern, Midwest, and northeast accents
I've had quite a few influences.
