17 years and I still come back to listen when I feel crap
I’ve been watching f this video for like 10 years. It’s better than the recorded version
2024 and this is still one of the most iconic videos on RUclips.
It's 2021 and I'm still at awe with Mr Mongrain's talent. Beautiful piece.
It's 2022 and I'm to still at awe with Mr Mongrain's talent. Beautiful piece, too.
@Jack Page he streams on twitch!
It’s 2025 and I suck
Thank you that’s my dad
@@egone61 my dad doesn’t stream
Still listening to this piece 12 years later... love this Eric.... love it
君は僕の同志だね
same here
This sound is so incredible!
Me too. Still remember the first time I heard it. Amazing
Same. It's amazing
My friend George Waller brought me here, he wasn’t wrong about this mans talent. George died suddenly 2 years ago, he was a man of considerable talent himself. Rest In Peace my friend.
15 years later and still a masterpiece
July 8 2023! Still listen at least once a week
Hey Erik. I don't know if you're still very active on RUclips but i have to tell you how much this particular song inspired me. I vividly remember the first night i ever heard this song, style of music, or of you. You have literally shaped who i am as a musician, man. So much appreciation Erik, thank you for everything you've written.
My favourite part is at 0:33 when the crowd cheers and Erik smiles. I was smiling start to finish.
Some things we are born with in our souls and spirits, and it is a blessing when those things find their way out. Witnessing those moments is truly a blessing.
16 years later, finding this at the start of my favorites list from way back when.
I remember seeing this as my first RUclips video on summer of 2007 from the first iPhone at the age of 9... remembered it was insane to see a guitar being played like that and insane tones coming out of it.
This video will have a special place in my heart =)
I was many years older but had the same experience. Good music unites all divides
It’s amazing, this video got released when I was a sophomore in high school. I’m 30 now, still come back to this video and it’s take me back to that subtle age of innocence
31 years old here - now with a wife, kids, etc. and I’m watching this video thinking the same thing! Instantly transported back to a more innocent time.
I dont 100% recall when I found this video tbh. But I did save it as I knew it was something I didnt want to lose out on. But I do know it was during a simpler time and younger me didnt realize how nice that time was to be in.
Mike Dawes told me Erik doesn't really know any music theory. Straight from the soul. Amazing.
Yes Erik also told this
Theory can be stifling to creativity. This man has raw talent and its not easy to slap a beat, hit harmonics with right hand and play with left. Its quite a feat..
Andy Mckee- Drifting is good too.
John butler ocean max sessions video is good.
Antoine dufour is pretty amazing.
Heitor pereira etc..
How do you not cry when playing something so beautiful. The amount of heart and soul put into this song is just magical.
Even the presenters, "Erik Mongrain" still ring fresh in my mind.
I’ve seen several of this style of guitar performances recently, but this performance has yet to be topped in my eyes. I remember seeing this years and years ago, and I definitely still know Mr. Mongrain’s name. Masterful work.
Still listening 14yrs later...absolutely amazing...
When you wanted a piano but your mom got you a guitar instead
When you wanted a drum set, a piano and a backing band but all you got was a guitar you were screwed, well... unless you're Erik Mongrain.
Ik it’s joke, but you can’t do that with a piano, that’s why the guitar is hands down the best instrument ever
OscarMacTavish True, it can do:
- Drums
- Designs
-All kinds of sounds
-Chords easily playable
-Easy to learn, hard to master!
-play everywhere
@@xyzLqrs Yes but piano is a easier and simpler and you can also produce good melodies and only problem is transporting a piano and can't do natural harmonics, unnatural harmonics, and tapping.
@@raymundoaustria5821 In my opinion complex is better.
I first saw this in the summer of 2007, 13 years later still coming back to remember good all times with this tune.
Watched this the day it came out on YT. I come back once in a while to remind myself of the good old days. This is still as good as I remember it!
I went to Erik's guitar "seminar" in Bristol , UK a while ago. He was full of a cold and really could have done with some rest before the gig later on but he came out, plugged in and chatted with us for a good 2 hours about everything from influences to preferred strings. In amongst the chat he played some songs and explained some techniques and it was just awesome. Afterward I asked him if he'd mind having a photo taken with me. He said "of course". A damn nice guy
His reaction to the crowd shows how much it means to him. I heard this so many years ago and like most people here it's worth coming back for
Hard to believe it’s been almost 18 years since I saw this beautiful piece of music. It always brings me such joy and happiness! ❤
14 years. that’s how old this song is right now. yet, no one can even replicate it as perfect as him. a masterpiece indeed
I have watched this many times. Full of feeling! I enjoy it every time....
The first time I heard this over ten years ago, I had never seen guitar played like he did. It blew my mind alongside with the music I heard. Still as wonderful to listen as it was back then.
They way the host eagerly presents Erik, forgets to go off the stage and then thankfully shakes Eriks hand afterwards brings a tear to my eye. He truly has a passion for the essence of music.
このメロディラインの美しさ。もはや芸術の領域でしょう!
Couldn't have put it better myself!
Not listened to this in about 8 years or so. Some friend of mine just sent me some ok-ish finger/vocal musician in 2021. Was ok. But wasn't able to produce tears of pure joy just from listening/watching. This is and always will be for me at least the benchmark for tap guitar. Hard act to follow.
You might also consider John Butler Trio - Ocean (Live at Federation Square) Hope you can enjoy that aswell ;)
15 years later and this is still an awesome song even if it is in 240p haha - and even after 15 years there still isn't a better sounding version of this song on RUclips
He streams on twitch!
Every now and then I'll search out this piece and listen to it in wonder and be humbled all over again.
This is truly a masterful performance and a beautiful instrumental.
I watched this when it came out and again now in 22....still dope.
He’s reached the next level of guitar
Streaming on twitch every sunday/thursday, 1-3 pm (eastern).

erikmongrain what happened to you my man.
2023 and I still come back to this, I think this was the very first RUclips video I ever watched.
After over ten (10!!!) years after I heard this track for the first time, I still get goosebumps. Simply amazing!
Just brilliant! I have listened to this many times and it still blesses my heart to hear such talent and beautiful music.
I'm getting tickets as soon as they become available for your gig Penzance, Cornwall.
I was 6 years old when I’d first seen this video, i’m 22 years old now and i still get goosebumps like it was the first time listening to it.
I regret to have not followed the career that this man had/has, no matter how big or small. But one thing is for sure, he made a lasting impression on me. Absolutely stellar instrumentalist. Followed his Twitch page for a bit before life got in the way but I will never forget this man. Unbelievable talent and I'm grateful I had the pleasure of discovering him.
Producer: How many keys will you play this song in?
Eric: Yes.
@Jack Page I can see you missed the joke!
who's here in 2020?
Hi ... did you can cover it too
Everybody with good taste in music 🙂
Hi👋
Hi
Always come back to this, incredible skill and music
My friend and I bonded over love for this performance. To this day, when one of us presents something to the other that we think will make he other happy, we will say “Eric Mongrain” in a French accent and the other will show their approval by saying it too
It's the moment at the 33 second mark where the hometown Quebec crowd just collectively realizes just how great what they are seeing and hearing, IS.
It's one of the reasons that more than 7 million people tune in to this.
I first saw this more than a decade ago. After not seeing it for years, I felt like I wanted to see it and here it is.
Like a utility of momentary joy. (God bless RUclips.)
Another utility moment to escape the world like this is Michael Manring's "Enormous Room" at a modest house concert.
It's the collective experience we all desire.
I dare say that Erik himself knows that this video is his moment in time on the world scene.
The Beatles on Sullivan.
Dave Letterman after 9/11.
This is Erik's version of that.
Love to all who love this.
GuitarGare
My first time hearing this. Totally brilliant. :-)
@AndrificusMaximus . All my tab are already done and I sale them on my website. I don't give my tab for tree on Ultimate Guitar, Sorry, I have to eat and live.
I heard this 13-14 years ago and now still listening...thank you eric
Every so often someone comes up with a new AND WONDERFUL way to use a device/machine/instrument. Best I have seen/heard of this on guitar, WOW.
Now, everybody. Let's go to see the song " The Future by Luca Stricagnoli"
Each time I watch this i feel like giving up the guitar. Amazing
I feel like picking mine up! and yes amazing
you need some victor wooten in your life, listen to his ted talk.
It can be done! I was able to learn some slightly easier lap tapping stuff by playing Luca's lap tapping piece "The Future", it's not an easy feat but with enough practice you'll get the hang of it.
I noticed that you kind of have to flick your wrist a bit and lift the finger up as soon as your fingertip hits the fret, the longer your finger stays on the string, it absorbs more vibration, making the harmonic weaker. I'm not sure whether you should use the flesh or the side of your nail though...I used partially flesh and nail and I hurt the side of my finger while trying to learn in so be prepared...
It should be the opposite ✌️❤️
Came back after 15 years to revive this. Never stopped listening.
@Jack Page Nope. I Commented to revive it. Been listening all along. This is where I first found it. Not where I have to continue to listen to it. *Downloads*
Cant believe i didnt sub to you 12 years ago... Your video just popped into my head out of nowhere and I had to come back to feel some nostalgia.... Loved this 12 yrs ago still love it today thank u Eric!!!!!
#Who's-Here-In--2021?
But can he play smoke on the water?
Dudr noooo....he can't even hold the guitar properly, how can he play smoke on the water?lol..
@@yangerjamir0906 🤣😂
it's not how you hold it. it's how you play it. wife.. what do you mean by that?
But isn't smoke on the water, like, the hardest thing you can play on guitar?! This looks relatively easy in comparison... 😜
This is insane. Eric, if you read this. I hope you know you've created an entire new breed of guitarists through your music. who all share the same passion and love for music as you. Your a modern day hero sir!
Long ago, in 2006 my friend show me some of Eric Mongrain videos, when I check this out I said: acoustic guitar is not shit - I am shit.
It was uploaded when youtube came out ;)
I come back to this often. Have been listening to it since 2006 or so... still moves me every time.
Absolutely beautiful. Really, truly beautiful. I always watch this to put a smile back on my face :)
Who's here in 2023?
2024*
i am here in 2024
So am I
Still here
Here in 2024!!
My only inspiration is Michael Hedges.
erikmongrain sir where are you from...😃😃😃
Perfect inspiration. Your playing honors him beautifully.
erikmongrain I met him once. He was my hero
Terrible
Michael Hedges has so many good tunes!
Ive been watching this video for years and still cant comprehend how amazing of a guitarist you are Erik. All of your work is so complex it boggles my mind, your techniques, your music genius always inspires me. Thank you
Erik, I wiki'd you & saw that Don Ross is one of your biggest inspirations. When I was 16 I stumbled across a random cd that had Klimbim on it and didn't leave my bedroom till I had it down. His music changed the way I view the instrument entirely. I just wanted to let you know if what wiki says is true you have truly done Mr. Ross proud. Your music is every bit as inspirational to the craft as his.
check out John Butler - Ocean!
bravo Erik Mongrain!
music for life
I didn't know eminem can play guitar
+asdf I didn't know erik mongrain can rap
+Kyle Pseudonym Don't you guys know anything? It's clearly Vin Diesel...
I said this very sarcastically in my mind as I typed this, but realize now that I did not convey that in my comment.
Lol eminem is talented too :p
***** lyricism, I'm not a big rap guy myself but he is good at throwing words together. Also free styling which is much harder than people think
i come back to this every time i hit a wall when i am playing. sometimes playing the same old songs for too long can make you stop trying. so i sit and watch this, remind myself that there is other things to try, other ways to use it, and most importantly that its worth trying new things. i thank you sincerely good sir.
I love the way the audience realises what they're seeing about 30 seconds in and bursts into spontaneous applause. I knew a chap who could play this at ludicrous speed - and he used to get the same reaction from people :)
andy mckee lost some weight
I remember seeing this as a teenager and it blew my mind and opened me up to a whole new world of percussive guitar and music! Now in 2022 it randomly popped in my head and is still just as awe inspiring. Well done Erik thanks for the amazing music!
Erik your music has an innocent quality in it's sound which cannot be expressed in words alone, It sounds like there is nothing wrong in the world, there is just harmony
2022 reporting in, remembering a better time in life and listening to this banger.
Every so often I keep coming back to this video to listen the elegant, inspiring, and hauntingly beautiful guitar stylings of Erik Mongrain. Phenomenal. I still love it, six years later.
Every week i come back to hear this music... since 7 years
Although we all know he's not the first to have ever played the guitar like this, like Jimi Hendrix, Andres Segovia & Eddie Van Halen, he has elevated the range of this beautiful instrument to a whole new level and brought to the masses new possibilities of how to play whatever instrument they have. Bravo Erik...
I heard this song years ago and I always come back to it. Doesn't get old.
I'll probably be 70 years old and still listening to this.
its guitarists like this that change the world. you'll find thousands of Van Halens and Dimebag Darrels across the world now. But only a select few are this innovative.
beautiful thing about music. no matter where you are in the world anyone can enjoy it
Erik, you're a huge source of inspiration for so many young guitarist. The energy from your song give us motivation and creativity, and willpower to play music all around the world and spread peace. Thanks you so much to be yourself. ☼
I remember seeing this for the first time 15 years ago on bebo (UK) and it's still awesome!
Struggling with the fact that this masterpiece is nearly 16 years old. It defined my college days. Literally half a life away 😭😭
This is so beautifully composed music! I just found this vid via the wikipedia source for guitar tapping because I was looking for what was the term it was called because I did not knew it beforehand and saw from some forums that it was just literally called just "tapping". Because from some of my fave bands I see quite often they play this technique and was always amaze that guitar have different way to be played other than just strumming or fingerstyling so it was so cool to discover this guy
16 years later, someone still appreciates his genius in 2022. Anyone else?
Haven't seen this in years, popped in my head and I couldn't remember the name, took me some time googling random shit until I found it.....still as great as the first time I heard it
Almost 18 y later i'm still here! Great Song! Bravo!!
I don't think most people really appreciate what a difficult piece of music he plays there.
I've been playing guitar for I dunno 12 years now? Am satisfied with what I can do atm, but while this is a completely different style of playing, I do know it takes years and years to be able to play like this.
Hats off deep for mr Mongrain. Very much respecto's
I've watched this video. On a regular basis. For 5 years running. And it becomes more amazing every time. Still. Incredible.
This is the first video I ever saved in my Liked playlist... I will never not love it.
All this time and I still come back to this.
I remember watching this a year or so ago and wanted my daughter to see it again....EVERY time I watch this my heart pump and I notice my breathing change as it does with pieces of music that inspire and impress!!!
So much better watching him play, would love a HD/BluRay version of this.
I like the smile you get around 0:33. Just that you are enjoying the audience enjoying you. It comes full circle.
Même après plusieurs années, écouter ces quelques secondes est un véritable plaisir. Merci Eric !
hitting those harmonics on point every time... jeez. most excellent
lol
I think Eric is the only person I’ve ever seen to makes such a overplayed instrument sound completely and totally unique. I love this piece so much
Yes, it's still really cool after all these years ! Great musicality served by a great technique ;) 👏👏👏
This is the only good memory I have with my dad, is listening to this guy for hours
I could listen to this over and over
Beautiful...Mesmerizingly Spirit Lifting
11 years later and I'm still coming back to this video to listen to it :) Still sounds just as good :)
