My friend George Waller brought me here, he wasn’t wrong about this mans talent. George died suddenly 2 years ago, he was a man of considerable talent himself. Rest In Peace my friend.
Hey Erik. I don't know if you're still very active on RUclips but i have to tell you how much this particular song inspired me. I vividly remember the first night i ever heard this song, style of music, or of you. You have literally shaped who i am as a musician, man. So much appreciation Erik, thank you for everything you've written.
It’s amazing, this video got released when I was a sophomore in high school. I’m 30 now, still come back to this video and it’s take me back to that subtle age of innocence
31 years old here - now with a wife, kids, etc. and I’m watching this video thinking the same thing! Instantly transported back to a more innocent time.
I dont 100% recall when I found this video tbh. But I did save it as I knew it was something I didnt want to lose out on. But I do know it was during a simpler time and younger me didnt realize how nice that time was to be in.
Some things we are born with in our souls and spirits, and it is a blessing when those things find their way out. Witnessing those moments is truly a blessing.
Theory can be stifling to creativity. This man has raw talent and its not easy to slap a beat, hit harmonics with right hand and play with left. Its quite a feat.. Andy Mckee- Drifting is good too. John butler ocean max sessions video is good. Antoine dufour is pretty amazing. Heitor pereira etc..
I went to Erik's guitar "seminar" in Bristol , UK a while ago. He was full of a cold and really could have done with some rest before the gig later on but he came out, plugged in and chatted with us for a good 2 hours about everything from influences to preferred strings. In amongst the chat he played some songs and explained some techniques and it was just awesome. Afterward I asked him if he'd mind having a photo taken with me. He said "of course". A damn nice guy
They way the host eagerly presents Erik, forgets to go off the stage and then thankfully shakes Eriks hand afterwards brings a tear to my eye. He truly has a passion for the essence of music.
I remember seeing this as my first RUclips video on summer of 2007 from the first iPhone at the age of 9... remembered it was insane to see a guitar being played like that and insane tones coming out of it. This video will have a special place in my heart =)
The first time I heard this over ten years ago, I had never seen guitar played like he did. It blew my mind alongside with the music I heard. Still as wonderful to listen as it was back then.
Every now and then I'll search out this piece and listen to it in wonder and be humbled all over again. This is truly a masterful performance and a beautiful instrumental.
Not listened to this in about 8 years or so. Some friend of mine just sent me some ok-ish finger/vocal musician in 2021. Was ok. But wasn't able to produce tears of pure joy just from listening/watching. This is and always will be for me at least the benchmark for tap guitar. Hard act to follow.
I regret to have not followed the career that this man had/has, no matter how big or small. But one thing is for sure, he made a lasting impression on me. Absolutely stellar instrumentalist. Followed his Twitch page for a bit before life got in the way but I will never forget this man. Unbelievable talent and I'm grateful I had the pleasure of discovering him.
@AndrificusMaximus . All my tab are already done and I sale them on my website. I don't give my tab for tree on Ultimate Guitar, Sorry, I have to eat and live.
It's the moment at the 33 second mark where the hometown Quebec crowd just collectively realizes just how great what they are seeing and hearing, IS. It's one of the reasons that more than 7 million people tune in to this. I first saw this more than a decade ago. After not seeing it for years, I felt like I wanted to see it and here it is. Like a utility of momentary joy. (God bless RUclips.) Another utility moment to escape the world like this is Michael Manring's "Enormous Room" at a modest house concert. It's the collective experience we all desire. I dare say that Erik himself knows that this video is his moment in time on the world scene. The Beatles on Sullivan. Dave Letterman after 9/11. Cant believe i didnt sub to you 12 years ago... Your video just popped into my head out of nowhere and I had to come back to feel some nostalgia.... Loved this 12 yrs ago still love it today thank u Eric!!!!!
It can be done! I was able to learn some slightly easier lap tapping stuff by playing Luca's lap tapping piece "The Future", it's not an easy feat but with enough practice you'll get the hang of it. I noticed that you kind of have to flick your wrist a bit and lift the finger up as soon as your fingertip hits the fret, the longer your finger stays on the string, it absorbs more vibration, making the harmonic weaker. I'm not sure whether you should use the flesh or the side of your nail though...I used partially flesh and nail and I hurt the side of my finger while trying to learn in so be prepared...
I remember seeing this as a teenager and it blew my mind and opened me up to a whole new world of percussive guitar and music! Now in 2022 it randomly popped in my head and is still just as awe inspiring. Well done Erik thanks for the amazing music!

How do you not cry when playing something so beautiful. The amount of heart and soul put into this song is just magical.
Mike Dawes told me Erik doesn't really know any music theory. Straight from the soul. Amazing.
Yes Erik also told this

When you wanted a drum set, a piano and a backing band but all you got was a guitar you were screwed, well... unless you're Erik Mongrain.
