Great job! I have been a mechanic for over 30years and have done some pretty "unconventional" repairs but I would have thrown that out lol. You give me new hope for the younger generation.
The rows in the center can be pulled straight with a heavy piece of wire threaded between the thin metal vanes, pulled from the outside with a piece of straight wood to protect the outside of the radiator. Thread the wire between the vanes, bring it above the wood protecting the outside of the housing and gently pry in several areas until it more straight. Start farthest from the side you're prying from, the vanes will pull straight when you progress toward the edge you're prying from.
Doing my bro’s yzf radiator in a minute! Thanks for the video and insight!! It’s the first old video I have seen of you and it’s amazing how comfortable you are on camera now compared to then. Well done
Thanks! It really is simple to do. I have not tried this on older radiators but I imagine that most vintage radiators would hold up to being straightened.
thank you very much for this tip ! I did use it today in the radiator of my crf 250 x . after a fall on a rock . the radiator was very warped . and he came back almost one hundred percent . very nice ! saved about R $ 900.00 in dollars would about $ 320 U.S. dollars . ( the price of a new radiator here in Brazil ) ... I am now a fan of your channel here on youtube .
I picked up a new bike and the radiator was bent. I just fixed it today. Thank you. I did not know that this could be done without puncturing l. Thank you once again.
Excellent video, the other guys say just buy new radiators, but I have many bikes and plenty of bike paraphernalia to spend my money on, I'll fix what I can.
GREAT work and very informative....sorry to see all the haters out there... I used your technique to fix the rad in my 06 Suzuki Vinson... thanks and cheers from NW Ontario Canada
Nice work man! I passed up on a used intercooler because it was bent up.I think I'll call the guy in the morning and buy it now.Thank's for posting this video :)
One thing that i've tried and have had great success with us taking the shroud off, leaving the rad mounted and then feeding some wire through the side. hook up a slide hammer to the wire and pull them right out.
literally just rive it straight again, nice one. Here i was thinking it would require some tools, at least some heat! Cheers pal, gonna go and whack mine till it fits back on!
It works very well! the only thing is you ruin a couple fins shoving the wire through (which wont affect anything and is hidden from view) and you gotta be sure not to stretch the radiator too far. but this method keeps you from having to drain coolant and unmount rad. :)
Great job .....Havent fixed mine yet, but as others have said....you will likely save me $100's ...Good for you ( and me!!) Gotta love Google, and guys like you !
Oh my look at this video good to see how long you have been doing this I remember the first vid I saw of yours and that was in 2013 keep it up just the new you with the cr
really like your tutorials :P nice and clear footage an a decent mic! sometimes i end up in those 360p videos and its really hard to see what they are dealing with, but this is good :D
very nice man. I am doing the same but I have a little bend and I repaired the radiador in the place. I stopped to find something at the web to see if Im doing wright or wrong and find your nice video. tks.
if the radiator is bend like that, does it effect the cooling of the engien? Most people say that its nothing to worry about. my radiator is bend a little but it never has overheated
gabriel nelzn Often when its bent that badly the plastics no longer fit, but you are right, the operation of the radiator usually isn't effected when just bent.
Yep. Mine looks just like the one you repaired in this video. I raced an enduro with it 2 weeks ago and had no issues with over heating. I plan on rebuilding the bike over the winter, and was going to go with new aluminum radiators, but now that I've seen this I may just try and fix the OEM I have now and put that money toward something else. Thanks for the tip!!!
If it's bent up, it definitely will not flow as good. After fixing it I'm sure it helps open up the fins again and increases flow, but if it's as good as new in terms of cooling efficiency is another question. You're talking about air flow correct?
Ya know... I tried this on a 98 Cr125 radiator and like you said, it did end up with a leak at the top back of two of the tubes... I tried fixing it as a last resort with some alumiweld sticks but I kept getting pinhole leaks... So I have to get a new radiator now. BUT, this worked great on my 06 CRF250r rads...
Great job! I have been a mechanic for over 30years and have done some pretty "unconventional" repairs but I would have thrown that out lol. You give me new hope for the younger generation.
Thanks for checking out the video! I was pretty surprised it straitened out and it worked great for years after that.
these old videos are awesome lol
dude, your videos have improved so much in the past few years. these old vids still have very useful info in them tho, so glad they are still around
Thanks! my radiator had the same bent but i didn't know you can repair it that way.. Now it straight and working fine.

Great idea!

Thanks! It really is simple to do. I have not tried this on older radiators but I imagine that most vintage radiators would hold up to being straightened.
