    THIS WORKS.
    I modified it by making the final knot starting with the double-wrap and then looping one of the ears twice, to make sure the knot doesn't come loose. Laces need to be longer for all that though.

    Presumably this can also work with eyelets instead of hooks on the top three or four lacing points? I’m going to try it on some altbergs because I get heel slip in my defenders, but not in my meindls. I’d rather have a well fitted pure leather boot than a well fitted goretex boot, just for waterproofing naturally instead of having a liner go home eventually and inevitably let the water in but not out easily.
    EDIT - done it, works perfectly, you’ve just transformed my boots! Delighted.
    Think I’ll flog the meindls now!

      It looks weird and the placement of pressure after doing this takes a few minutes of getting used to after conventional lace tying on a boot... but as someone who wears boots daily for work (and goes through more than one pair a year), I can tell you that this simple, weird looking tying method changed everything for me in a positive way. It may be completely psychosomatic but even my back feels better after a few weeks of lacing this way.

    Hello 👋 for those with hiking shoes designed like hiking boots (I have 4 pairs of lace holes and one pair of lace hooks):
    On last set of lace holes closest to ankle, tie a surgeon knot. Proceed to the lace hooks like normal, then create another surgeon knot. Tie your shoe like normal using last surgeon knot as starting knot.

  • @evzevz06
    @evzevz06 3 года назад +10

    Heel lift is also caused by:
    -Boots too long
    -Heel area in boot too thin
    -Heel area too wide
    -Too many insoles
    -Not enough insoles
    -Only wearing one pair of socks when you should wear 2 so the heel is low.
    -Wearing socks too thick which raises the heel position.
    Boot deisgned for a different heel shape Flat/bulbus.
    -Having under or overpronation of the foot
    If you can't walk around in your boots comfortably while they are unlaced with no heel lift then you havn't fixed the problem.

    • @byronlp
      @byronlp 2 года назад +1

      I think this comes more useful for mountaineering and ice climbing. When you are climbing or just hiking up really steep snowy slopes with a rigid mountaineering boot, you’re really testing the heel lift of the boots.

    Although this video is 5 years old I have a question. Just tied one boot 'normally' as i would having the knot on the top of the boot and the other one with the proposed trechnique in the video. It feels that i trully can't lift my heel but I feel I lost the ankle stability to the sides. Worth to mention that I use mid type hiking shoes. My question is - does this technique is a all-round solution for hiking boots or this is more for long walks on more flat surfaces? I'm just worried about the ankle stability while hiking mountains :/ Any thoughts ?

    • @georgemorley1029
      @georgemorley1029 3 года назад

      Having tried it, I can feel more flex in my boots higher up but still not that much. Mine are high ankle altberg defenders. I think with a lower cut boot you’re going to lose a lot of ankle support unless you really keep the tension on as you come back down criss cross from the top.
      EDIT - someone else posted here, do a surgeon knot at the ankle point as shown in the video, then take the laces going up as normal, then at the top you do ANOTHER surgeon knot to start the knot at the the top. Hope that helps!

    Doesn't help when you don't have hooks on your fucking boots. I have been all over RUclips searching for a video on how to lace up boots to prevent heel and foot slippage and they all include the hooks I cannot find a single one that doesn't have the hook.
