Paleblue batteries are rechargeables with a difference -- several of them, in fact. They recharge via USB-C, and they claim they're good for 1,000 recharge cycles, keeping 1,000 single-use batteries out of landfill. But do all of those numbers really add up -- and are they worth buying?

Just a point on the smoke detector. Standard batteries have voltage drop as they discharge. The smoke detector can thus warn when the batteries are starting to run out. Lithiums don't have this behavior, they will simply stay at the rated output voltage until the internal low voltage cutout kicks in. So it'll just shut down leaving you non the wiser that your smoke alarm is not functioning anymore
