I changed my diet from garbage like normal people to a strict meat and vegetables only diet and lost 30lbs in a month before I even started exercising. I was so out of shape I literally couldn’t do anything besides go on walks. There’s nothing “wrong” with cardio. Taking a long walk or a run is fine, but you have to lift. Lifting really does work. I live in the country and decided to do what all the big farm boys do. Eggs and meat for breakfast every morning, meat with garlic, onions and peppers for lunch and a steak for dinner. NO BREAD! I just started lifting a few weeks ago and have already noticed a difference. Do it!
Me too! I was able to lose 60 pounds while recovering from shoulder surgery, 18 weeks living in a recliner. After a full year I was able to do very light lifting and everything just took off. Now I’m wide open going heavy and this 55 year old is looking and feeling young. All of our stories really need to get out there.
@@ComstockRoyalty except there are many people who have found success through a plant based diet. Just because it doesnt work for u doesn’t mean it wont work for anyone else
@@brennand933 I've never tried it. I spent 15 years competing in triathlons and 5 years as a natural bodybuilder. A plant based diet is not optimal for that kind of intensity and requires a solid diet to rebuild (IN MY OPINION.) I love my grass fed Bison burgers and Elk steaks.
Calisthenics, being outside more often, and eating high quality red meat amongst other quality animal foods has really changed my life for the better. Thank you for another great episode Mike!
Eating higher fat and lifting weights has made me more slender than ever. Not in a sick looking way but my abs have never been flatter, and I look cut. Also it’s not a fluctuating thing, I’m just like this year round now. Back when I counted calories, ran tons of miles, ate low fat… my weight was always bouncing up and down. The absolute best thing though… I’m no longer obsessed with food and hungry all the time!! I used to joke how I can’t relate to anyone who says “I’m not hungry.” Now I eat liberally, and I really don’t have major cravings or overeating tendencies! It makes me sad I spent so many years chained to my food obsession but at least I figured it out in the 2nd half of my 30s
Me too....ever since I went on LCHF diet, I have become lean and healthy. I've never starved. Not even hungry. I've kind of forgot about how it felt to be hungry. When everyone around me snacking and offer me a snack, I'd tell them I am snacking on my own fat all day long unless I am eating (a nerdy way to politely decline their offer of food). Not a whole lot people understand that though.
your weight fluctuated because you were fluctuating between eating in a calorie surplus and eating in a calorie deficit (either due to lack of consistency in diet or lack in consistency of energy expenditure). Your anecdote doesnt negate the fact that cardio and calorie counting can absolutely help other people lose weight. It didnt work for you because you couldnt stick with it, but others like myself can stick to it and works well if thats the case.
@@lock152 demonizing food groups can lead to bad relationships with food. the point of counting calories is to learn about the calorie density of various foods (and understanding that nutritious, whole foods like lean proteins, greens and other various whole foods not only provide a lot of satiety but are also vastly lower in calories than stuff like chips and ice cream). I understand that some people do take counting calories a bit too overboard but the point is to eventually not have to count calories because you know what the best foods for you are and how much of it you can eat without gaining fat.
I know that meat is the best thing I can eat; as Dr Ken Barry says it's the proper human diet. I love animals too, but I also know as a Christian that God gave us animals to eat. If God says that we can and should eat meat then there is no question in my mind and nothing to grapple with. He made us stewards over animals which also means we are be responsible with that authority and never should never abuse that gift.
Yeh God is always very convienent for what we do. God told me hes a jealous God so doesnt like other Gods also but will send us to hell if we bow down to them. This same God has inspired killings against others who dont bow to him. And this is the God who has given us animals to eat right that makes sense....
there is no one "best food". The best thing you can eat is a balanced diet that hits all your nutritional requirements and that's not going to be the same for everyone. Believe it or not, high carb diets will help some people lose weight, and for others it wont. Hard to believe, i know.

Powerful and enlightening interview. Dr. Michelle is very knowledgeable articulate and grounded. She has had a heck of a first-hand journey. My wife passed a few years ago at 53 after a life long struggle with an eating disorder. She had amenorrhea from restricted eating and too much exercise. It lead to severe osteoporosis causing bones to break with essentially no impact. It forced her to be homebound and ultimately bed bound. She was unable to reverse her condition and eventually it becomes too late. Yes, Dr. Michelle is very well grounded from her journey and I noted her caution when she spoke about nutrition and exercise, body weight and importance of the menstrual cycle. A very important message indeed. well done doc on multiple levels.
I do strength training 3 x a week. Im asian & more prone to osteoporosis, no cardio except for jumping squats & no recovery time, 30 minutes. That's all ladies 30 minutes of your time. I went from skinny fat to muscle tone. Im 47, period has been same since 13. It's also what you eat, low carbs & IF( no breakfast). No snacks, except for yogurt & fruits. I workout at home with 10 to 25 lb dumbbells. My clothes fit better & my butt is perkier. ❤❤ my butt!! No sagging.
@agatha kinuthia How you train and what you eat matters. Study and adjust your diet and routine. Remember weight is also not always a bad thing. You can lose body fat while adding muscle. All "weight" is not equal. Stay off the scale and look in the mirror. Some thoughts.
Yes, BALANCE in everything in terms of FOOD that we eat, the EXERCISE that we do, having STRESS management in place and having a PRAYER time upon waking up and before going to sleep. Basic things but plays a MAJOR role in our BRAIN PROCESS and BODY PROCESS. I totally agree with this doctor. I am a nutritionist, a nurse and a personal trainer for 13 years. Now I train kids with Autism. The brain is indeed a master gland. If you mess with the brain (stress, trauma, low calorie diet, etc), body process will be disrupted that can lead to AUTOIMMUNE disease. If you take care of the brain, you'll get the maximum function of all of the body's process. The body is an amazing machine. The Creator of the human body is really amazing.
Eating fatty meats and veggies, being active and STRETCHING. Being in my 50’s stretching everyday is very very important. I do a stretching routine before every gym session and is a great warmup. I know way too many people who can’t touch their toes, very sad.
A lot of what she says is so resounding. I had amenorrhea for 3 years when I was 18-21. Went from obsessively counting my calories to the other scale of binge eating (all while binge exercising - all cardio) - not something I'd do again. I'm now in my late 30s, still working out 6-7 days a week, mostly cardio but more weights/resistance incorporated. No more counting calories, just eating whole foods like meat, eggs and dairy + intermittent fasting some days. Body weight is on the lighter side but I'm stronger and fitter than I was when younger and I have regular periods!
I'm a weightlifting geek. Only cardio I love is climbing & hiking. I eat ketovore, female in my 40s & feel 21💚 Ladies you won't look like a dude lifting! You'd need anabolics to do that.
As a man, I have noticed that carnivore(ish) women who lift look not at all masculine but healthy/optimal feminine, whereas those with meat-deficient diets and do cardio look rather more unhealthily androgynous or weakly masculine. Healthy hormones accentuate the sexual polarity, something not encouraged in the modern dystopian/gender-confused ethic.
I am a licensed ND too, went vegan in my 20's for "health", now in my 60's and no longer vegan because of health concerns - basically sarcopenia/muscle loss. Now I am in the process of rebuilding my body nutritionally with animal foods, HIIT, and resistance training.
I don't know if your problems are because you were vegan. I am in 50s, very muscular, 6'2, 190 and am vegetarian. Maybe I eat an ounce of cheese per day and 4 eggs per week. However, I have been lifting continually since high school, consume 40 grams of pea / seed protein powder per day, eat lots of nuts and seeds, cacao, intake 6 grams citrulline malate daily, take some k2, D3, B12 and a bit of egg shell powder, algae oil, carnosine. My cardio is 3 days a week: 1 day of sprints, 1 day of jumping over a bench back and forth (HIIT like), 1 day of steady state jogging for 30 minutes. I guess what I am saying is that I think vegan and vegetarians can maintain bone mass and muscle mass just as well as one on an omnivore diet if one supplements and trains appropriately. If one is a pro-bodybuilder or a professional power and strength athlete, I can see animal products providing an advantage since they are typically more calorie dense and are typically more anabolic. In studies, plant protein, seems to have a much greater association with a reduction in mortality and disease compared to animal protein.
@@jackbuaer3828 compared to what those studies? Compared to a cheeseburger diet? Omnivore ieto blows every study out of the eater for metabolic health. Most veg/vegan studies are epidemiology and without scientifically vigour.
@@dana102083 actually, almost all diet studies are observation whether veg /vegan/ omnivore. I would not say that a vegan or vegetarian diet is healthier than a high plant based diet that includes small small amounts of meat, chicken or fish. My point was that one can be healthy on veg / veg diet, though I think it takes some planning. There are plenty of vegan / vegetarian centenarians. But there are also centenarians that smoke and eat hot dogs. Genes are probably an under rated factor. When Dan Buettner did his survey of centenarians in the BlueZones, he found that most ate approx 95% or more plant based diet. The survey was only a little over 100 respondents, so it was not really a large sample size. I am a vegetarian for ethical reasons not health reasons. If one wants to reduce the slaughter of pigs, cows, chicken, turkeys etc . . . and the associated pain and suffering, then a vegan / vegetarian diet is superior for that purpose.
Amazing talk. I literally had ammenorhea since February after beginning a ketogenic diet but not enough protein. And lifting weights, calorie deficit. It took almost 9 months to get a normal cycle. I ate more carbs for 3 days along with upped my calories and I got it back. So important to have proper nutrition, my body craves red meat at the right times as a female too, our bodies know what they need when you remove sugar and stuff, can be in tune with that. But it takes time to unlearn certain things we've learned from mainstream health society. Thank you for bringing her on and this fruitful topic and discussion. May it help other women and others!
Lifting weights helps me more than anything. Some cardio, usually just through walking, and eating as clean as I can, but lifting does help me lose faster.
@@annukun7318 strength training helps too, and strength training burns more fat than diet alone will. But you are correct, no gym required for strength training.

As someone who went vegan for 3 years and became underweight, had an explosion of acne, stopped menstruating, and experienced extreme hormonal imbalance, I’m so glad more women are speaking out against a 100% plant-based diet.
@@cyndijohnson5473 Hi! Respectfully, I was WFPB and only had vegan desserts on occasion (like maybe at a maximum of once every 2 weeks). When I gained some of the weight back while vegan I had to eat past feeling full (very uncomfortable) and had to have many supplements. Many vegans who start and feel great come from a Standard American Diet (quite devoid of nutrients and filled with hormones, antibiotics, etc…). I was coming from a Mediterranean diet as that’s what my mother cooked, so I had always eaten nutrient-rich fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes, and seeds; but now the beneficial aspects of the dairy & meat that were included were gone.
Same!!! I only tried it for 4 months, trying to cure my son's asthma. In that short amount of time my healthy skin hair and nails turned into acne ridden, flaky, brittle, thinning shadows of their former selves. Everytime we ate at someone else's house, my kids were going pebbles and bam bam on the meat. I felt tired, emotional, and bloated. I switched back to including animal products and all those issues disappeared.
I really like doing my weightlifting circuit with no breaks instead of just plain cardio. Used to do HIIT daily and cut back when I heard it could spike Cortisol. Right now, meat , eggs, fish, good fats. Small amts fruit/veg. (no more mega salads) Doing IF and 2MAD has done wonders for mood and sleep! Getting outdoors a lot is a must.
This seems the story of my life. I became vegetarian when I was 15 and was for 15 years. I think I messed up my body so badly. I will follow her advice. Thanks for sharing!
When I was vegan and I did a simple set of pushups the DOMs and soreness the day after lasted one week. I was not strong enough to hike through the mountains. I noticed the "fuel" in my body was very clean and it was great for endurance, but the force in the muscles was missing
anecdote that means what? When you were vegan you did a simple set of push-ups? That sounds you went from doing nothing to suddenly exercising and did it only one time. Well no duh you had DOMs. Anyone coming from doing nothing to exercising, even a set of push-ups. will experience DOMs the first few times. I weight train all the time and I don't get doms but on a rare occasion. Even as I move up in reps or weight I don't get doms.
Meat has protein, which is needed for muscle growth and recovery. Vegan feels good for endurance because it is mostly sugar. But you cannot get strong without protein and amino acids.
meat doesn't produce force directly. progressive overload in resistance training induces muscle protein synthesis, and from there you need to fuel your body with protein, carbs, and fats to reap the benefits of MPS. Meat is one form of protein, but there are so many complete forms of protein nowadays, vegan sources included, that to say meat is the only way is just ridiculous. Im not even a vegan but I also have a brain.
@@brennand933 I never said meat was the only source of protein. But meat and dairy are the best sources of protein. Whey protein is proven to be the best bioavailable source of protein. And you do not need carbs to build muscle. I haven't eaten carbs in years, yet I have plenty of muscle.
@@nerychristian what you’re espousing is the classic “if it works for me, it works for everyone”. This is a complete and total logical fallacy. Some people feel like garbage if they are not fueled on carbs during a workout. Some people train best when theyre fasted. Some only need fats. Just because one approach works for u does not mean it works for the entire population.
It really shouldn't be one to exclude the other. Need to combine cardio and lifting. Along with proper diet, stress management, and sleep to reach a truly healthy state. To discount the benefits of cardio is a mistake that I'm sure will be rectified over the long term.
People equate exercise with calorie burning. So cardio makes sense. Endless cardio makes your body very efficient with calories...which is why for weight loss you wil need hours and hours to keep up with your fork. Eventually your fork will win.
@@osuk1 you being a military vet adds zero validity to your argument. Im glad HIIT and compound lifting has worked for you, but to say that it'll work for everyone is extremely ignorant.

Actually most of society promotes an omnivore diet. I am a vegetarian for ethical reasons..Based on studies, a majority plant based diet (which may or may not include some animal products) seems to be the healthiest in general.
Plant-based is hijacked term. With regards to obtaining certain vitamins, plants would be the best way and hence those plants can form a proper plant-base. But you can eat the greens in a soup made from meat. Other plants are not very good, mostly grains.
@@TehKaiser . When you made your anti whole grain arguments in the past, I provided you with the representative study below and asked you to provide a single study to back up your position. None was forthcoming from you. I paid attention to my dogs behavior, over 30 years ago. I noticed that she played intensely, with another dog, she wouldn’t play for more than 10-15 minutes, then she would rest. She would play with me much longer. One time, to the point of exhaustion. I never pushed her that far again. I expanded my perspective to include more mammal play behavior. I noticed that her behavior was “normal” and the excessive behavior I would encourage was abnormal. I have lived my life by that rule. I’m almost 60 and doing very well. I do some aerobic exercise, but mostly a anaerobic exercise. I have an above average level of endurance in the sports I enjoy. None of them are highly aerobic. Natural knows best!
Keto and IF gave me hypothalamic amenhorea/tanked my thyroid. Took me a year of slowly adding back in fruits, dropping the long runs, and supplementing bio-identical progesterone and thyroid to heal.

I just came off carnivore after doing it a month for autoimmune disease and all of its nasty symptoms. I lost a lot of the bloat I’ve always dealt with from celiac disease, lost my headaches, joint pain, most of my gas issues, sleep issues and energy issues. All went away. I still deal with a little bloating I believe due to coming off hormonal birth control, still a celiac symptom for me and also I think some distasis recti from having three children. I do what I can to heal DR but the other two causes may take time to heal. Other than that I have so much more energy, not a lot of hunger pains and hoping my weight lifting improves with all the changes and coming off a lot of conventional meat, artificial hormones and most carbs. I’m more ketovore now but introduced some veggies back into my diet. Otherwise all meat and fats for me. I feel better now at 28 than I felt at 18. I’ve noticed it even less stressed or prone to stress or anxiety which has been a game changer!
I love watching Dr Drays vids for skincare and can’t help but think of her when this guest is talking about her time as a vegan. Glad she’s recovered from her eating disorder 🙏
I really wish I could eat all meat but I have texture issues that make things very difficult as it makes me feel sick. Have only in the last few years been able to eat fish regularly. I do lift weights thought and have got my daughter into it, we have both lost fat and feel strong. And this training has helped her mentally through a tough time too. Lifting weights is a gift to your health 💪
Does not work for me. A high fat, high protein diet leaves me feeling weak, significantly unsatiated, and unable to sleep. Having some animal protein combined with low glycemic carbs and enough non starchy vegetables was the best solution suited for me individually. It also improved my overall digestion health. I still have an hour routine of cardio, be it dancing or brisk walking which also increases my energy, mood and weight loss as by product. Obsessing over pure high far high protein was too strenuous, imbalanced and problematic
What do you consider high protein? If you tried that way of eating first and got into ketosis that may drastically affect how you feel..if your salt balance is lacking and fasting. All can affect sleep directly when new to ketosis. If eating "too much" protein then fat content usually goes down too and some women need a huge amount more. Just wanted to give alternate ideas. Usually carnivore is 75% fat and 25% calories from protein, or by weight 50%/50%. 🙏

I find that I sleep better on the carnivore diet. But I also make sure not to eat after 4pm. I also supplement with B1 and B6. These vitamins are very useful for sleep. Hawthorne berry extract at night also helps the body to relax. But it takes the body time to adjust. It takes months for the sleep cycle to improve. I had bad insomnia for 15 years. The carnivore has improved my sleep a lot.
I wish you’d talk about hormones and menopause. Or maybe you have and I’ve missed it. But so many of us are struggling and have done well up to this point. What do you think about BHRT? Or is there a way to get through this “naturally”? Help?

Love meat and need it. I noticed when I went vegetarian, I would get huge welts on my legs with the slightest touch. They wouldn’t heal very fast either. It was painful and I would even wear soccer shins to guard my legs. I was eating enough, but never had enough of the correct nutrients. Just eating a little meat made the welts go away fast! Recently my naturopath said I should go on a plant-based diet. I knew that alone wouldn’t heal my body… I feel the best on paleo with lower carb veg. So many women have had incorrect ideas on what is actually healthy.
Most influencers prefer not to discuss any potential plant poisons at all, I’ve found. It is unfortunate, as not only do plants contain oxalates, but many other potential toxins, through anti-nutrients. Thankfully, Sally Norton has a book coming out at the first of the new year 2022. Shes absolutely the worlds expert on not only oxalates, but plant anti-nutrients in general, as well. Hopefully, her book will encourage influencers to embrace the subject of oxalates and other plant anti-nutrients.
I tried going plant-based and for whatever reason after eating, I would look 6 months pregnant. When I eat just meat or mostly meat with some vegs and fat, no bloating at all. My tum is meat-based I guess lol
It takes time for your gut microbiome to a change in diet. It can be hard to make any change especially if you go cold turkey. If you want to go plant-based again, go slow and take a month or two to move over and not all at once.

There seems to be a bias against cardio by many of the paleo, keto, low carb camps. My guess is it is as important as weight lifting for being healthy, maybe more important. Studies seem to confirm this: "The meta-analysis showed that, compared with no exercise, resistance training was associated with 21% (hazard ratio (95% confidence interval (CI)), 0.79 (0.69-0.91)) and 40% (hazard ratio (95% CI), 0.60 (0.49-0.72)) lower all-cause mortality alone and when combined with aerobic exercise, respectively" See the article: The association of resistance training with mortality: A systematic review and meta-analysis, European Journal of Preventive Cardiology
I dont think anyone said cardio is bad, its just most people I hear that promote it also dont lift weights. Also: And what types of people were studied? Were these randomized trials? On women and men? If people git to pick, different people gravitate to weights or cardio as well. Meed to know more. Weight lifting includes cardio but its important to move your body and have heart rate variation-- which this community focuses on more.
@@nutech1810 My guess is that steady state has benefits that HIIT does not have and vice versa. I was a vegan for 7 almost 8 years. Thought I was healthy thought it was good but my body didn't like it. I went eating meat, organ meats, bone broth, eggs, and that type of diet. Feeling better muscles are more dense. I have more energy!

I healed my mental health issues through forgoing a very low fat / low calorie diet of ZERO red meats in exchange for a carnivorous way of eating. Anxiety and depression gone, however, because I was eating SO little (prob 800-1,000 calories per day) and doing massive amounts of cardio, I ended up gaining about 25 pounds in about 3 mos once I switched over 🤣. I was so hungry that I think I overate to feed my body (I was quite thin)… but now a little fluffier I am healed from mental health issues and I wouldn’t change it! I have much more energy, my teeth and gums have become incredibly healthy, my hair is thick and strong and my skin isn’t dry anymore! Perhaps I’ll get back down to a more comfortable weight but I would rather live this way than before. There is much truth to these podcasts.
I agree. There is a lot of evidence now that explosive, short term exercises like sprinting and fast weight lifting is much better for your metabolic health than jogging and countless, slow reps with lighter weights are. Humans seem to do best with explosive types of exercise for their health.
I was fluctuating up and down for the last three years. Strict Intermittent fasting + cardio. It wasn’t until now when Ive finally started lifting weights daily. I show all symptoms of pcos, but even though I put in all my effort to cut carbs I felt like I was going crazy. I just incorporated the myo d chiro inositol and only on day two I feel WAY better! My workouts are no longer than 45 minutes every morning. I stop eating every day around 6pm so you can say I’m still working out in a fasted state between 6am-8am! But I’m not in a state where my body feels stressed out. So far I’m losing more so inches vs weight, but I feel so good finally. The max cardio I do is 20 minutes where I alternate days between a short climb on the stair master for that burst vs a full 20 minutes on the elliptical.

it's all about lifting weights honestly. builds muscle, increases metabolism. obviously don't eat like shit but you can enjoy cheat days while still getting strong and looking fit
A lot of what was said is an exact story of my life. One of the things I’ve started doing to improve is going on long walks. I can be a real couch potato and can barely get through a HIIT workout, but I can literally walk for hours outside. And I enjoy it. A note on the vegetarian and animal cruelty issue, I think about it the way I once heard Native Americans do. ‘The bear said eat of me, but honor me.’ Eat the animals, but honor them and their sacrifice. Use the entire body. When we eat the meat, they become a part of us and give us strength to live. So treat them well. I heard it as a child so I don’t know how accurate it is, but that’s how I rationalized eating meat as a kid. I also grew up visiting family who live on ranches and raise animals for their meat. So the freezers with freshly butchered meat probably caused some desensitization… Meat being bad was always an odd concept when my family needed it to get through the insane winters in the coldest parts of Wyoming.
Dr. Peter Attia had a different message on exercise. For longevity, Peter recommends at least four 45 minutes session of Zone 2 cardio a week. He also recommends strength training. In addition he recommends one session of four 4 minute high intensity cardio intervals once a week. He indicated that his cardio recommendations may reduce all cause mortality by up to five fold according to a study. Whereas strength training has helped reduce all cause mortality by up to three fold in a study. He seems like a very smart guy that does a lot research. Maybe people are getting too hyped on HIIT. Or maybe they are foregoing Zone 2 cardio because of video like this High Intensity video. I try to do both HIIT and longer runs in addition to weight training, but I find myself getting influenced by the fitness influencer du jour and sometimes do more one than the other. I am back to doing more zone 2 now.
So often I tried to advice young women I encounter in my job who often have anxiety issues how important exercise is for body and psyche and I always told them that for me "as a guy" strength training was the best. I always hesitated to fully recommend lifting to women.
Doctor thank you so much. as a man this did not apply directly to me but it does help me understand my lady better. you look very healthy and very beautiful. Super interesting info thanks again :)
Both of my kids (son 23 & daughter 21) have been seduced by a vegetarian style of eating. They consume little or no meat per say. They still consume dairy and eggs. All I know is they are always sick. They use to be really strong and mostly healthy, but now they think they „know it all“ and cannot be deterred from their friends viewpoints (many vegans). It‘s so frustrating to notice the change and not be able to help them help themselves. They just won‘t listen 😤 Even my daughter has started with a masculine hairgrowth (sideburn area). I am convinced she has a major hormone imbalance! What can I do to help my kids?
My daughter was kinda leaning that way, until she started breaking out and feeling weak and tired. I try to patiently (challenging) and lovingly point out the connection between food and how her body responds. At the end of the day, I practice what I preach and it shows! You be the living testament to this way of life...they’ll follow soon enough!❤️
@@MP-uq3zr Thanks so much! I do practice what I preach & my health hasn‘t been this good in decades! I’ve gotten rid of all processed foods in the house and only buy fresh organic. We love homecooked foods and everyone agrees on that. But my kids and their friends have veered off into this vegetarian-relm, eating more and more soy processed foods, especially when they’re out. I may try again to talk to them and share some more of these personal life stories, like Mike has brought here. I guess in the end, my grown kids will have to choose themselves. Good parenting never ends ehhh.
After switching back to red meat I feel I can exert much more power in my workouts and noticeably have less fat on my body while keeping calories consistent.
Thank God because I hate cardio lol. I'm 48 and for me weights followed by some cardio work. I'm more focused on tightening and toning than weight loss. That and eating properly and not starving or eating excessively helpse actually lose and keep the weight off.
Fascinating conversation. Thank you. Do let us know about your antibodies. I am very curious as to how long the natural immunity lasts in healthy people. 🤔
What if people are prone clogged arteries and have heart surgery and had a triple bypass surgery etc. Would eating red meat help? Or i guess they could cut out a lot of carbs maybe? I ask this cause I have a best buddy who's dad died of a heart attack. He had a triple bypass surgery etc. But he had the typical American diet. Red meat, potatoes etc. Wasn't a heavy set guy at all. Just a normal man at the time in his 50's.
You need to cut down on saturated fat. You can still eat some meat but pick the right sort (lean game meat) and use vegetables and fruits and while grains to balance out the risks with fibre.
From what I've read, it is not the meat that causes heart disease but the starchy potatoes eaten with it. That combination is what causes heart disease. Eat your meats with leafy greens or non-starchy vegetables and then check your stats. You'll be surprised.
This is quite an interesting topic and angle. It is territory that isn't really discussed, at least not yet, and it's very interesting to hear a doctor talk about it and even advise it! Thank you.
Loved the content, as always Mike brings on amazing guests and leads the conversation just enough to maximise the message without hijacking the answers. Hate the autofocus front camera.
@@TheRealRealOK if good health is eating adrenaline from tortured animals which causes your body to create mucus and plug itself up because of how acidic meat is and hard it is to digest then yeah you got it.
I'm unfortunately a Cardio junkie --- but I must admit that pure health science doesn't support like "Long-distance running for health". I'm no longer running for my health. I'm a running addict and I do for fun.
Several of my friends who are in their 40’s are using Mirena or an iud. They think it’s great not to be getting a period, but my question is this-is utilizing hormones to eliminate the menstrual cycle healthy? I wonder about the long term effects of these devices.
Or you can actually work on what your body needs and your period won't be as bad...I feel my period is a gift. All birth control has its negative side effects that men simply cannot handle so women have to just deal with it. Except me because I'm not brainwashed by it.
@@Jaylade totally agree. I’m 48 and love the fact i still get a regular period. Sometimes I’m a bit grouchy (particularly if I haven’t looked after myself well enough and had too much stress etc) but on the whole it’s no big deal and i love the fact that everything’s working as it should. I tell my fiancé I’m holding off the menopause and potential cancer risks by not taking any fake hormones and he’s fully supportive. I wish more women understood that there is a price to pay for taking these drugs. Our bodies are incredible when allowed to function naturally.
I was on Mirena after my third son was born and it tanked my libido. I had almost no sex drive and my husband and I’s marriage got rocky. I got off of it when I had finally had enough of feeling so off and anxious. I had a normal cycle and I felt like my old self again. My sex drive came back and my anxiety has almost completely gone away. Of course three children can be a little stressful but no “invisible” daily stress and emotional roller coasters for no obvious reason. I think it’s pushed on the masses for some sketchy reason to medicate and prevent reproduction but that’s another topic. I’ve never felt better in my life with not being on hormonal birth control. Long term effects are shown in study after study that birth control are causing a lot of infertility issues in my generation.
This just shows how strangely polarised the thinking around diet and fitness has become. You are either vegan or eat a ton of meat?. Neither is optimal. Eat some lean meat, more fish and a lot of plants, no junk and don’t overeat. Lifting is awesome. They keep closing the gyms where I am atm. Can’t wait to get back to the U.K. where I can retrieve my gains. But I also run several times a week. Running does build leg muscle especially doing sprints, cardio can be part of your body building. You need both. It’s a weird mindset to not get the benefits of both meat and veg, lifting and cardio. Those that struggle as vegans often under eat and use the way of eating as a form of calorie cutting. Sounds like this is what happened to her.
Lean meat is trash and not optimal. WE NEED FATS. It's odd how ignorant folks who think they know what is optimal are in regards to fat intake. Did you learn nothing from the Inuit and that man who thought lean rabbit would keep him alive? Then you recommend more plants. You mean the same plants that don't want us to eat them and produce a lot of toxins and antinutrients? The same plants, most of which didn't exist that long ago or weren't considered food? The same plants that contain NOTHING we need to survive that we can't get from animals? Red meat and lots of fat has and always will be optimal. The brainwashing by "experts" sure has done a good job, even with so-called people who should know better.
Meat consumption is often meat flavored with sauces from plants(tomato) or coating with grain products. I have a hunch eating plain meat with no seasoning it but salt would eventually get old.

Agreed
Congratulations. 🏆
@@brennand933 counting calories may lead to bad relationship with food
@@lock152 demonizing food groups can lead to bad relationships with food. the point of counting calories is to learn about the calorie density of various foods (and understanding that nutritious, whole foods like lean proteins, greens and other various whole foods not only provide a lot of satiety but are also vastly lower in calories than stuff like chips and ice cream). I understand that some people do take counting calories a bit too overboard but the point is to eventually not have to count calories because you know what the best foods for you are and how much of it you can eat without gaining fat.

If God says that we can and should eat meat then there is no question in my mind and nothing to grapple with. He made us stewards over animals which also means we are be responsible with that authority and never should never abuse that gift.

there is no one "best food".

Thank you for such an honest comment. I’m so sorry for your loss
I do strength training 3 x a week. Im asian & more prone to osteoporosis, no cardio except for jumping squats & no recovery time, 30 minutes. That's all ladies 30 minutes of your time. I went from skinny fat to muscle tone.

@@jackbuaer3828 in real life, you're not supposed to have to supplement. There were no supplements 100 years ago. Eat meat.
@@KarlDag Tell that to Mike who has a supplement company ( : I hear you though. If there were no supplements, I probably would not be a vegetarian.

Omg… as we get older, keep moving. It’s that simple.
"Move it or lose it"
I'm a guy and the only cardio I do is jump rope with weighted rope. If I wanna go for a run it's only 1 mile.
Awesome interview! As someone who struggles with hormonal imbalance, I could really relate!

Same here! Keto messed me up bc I went way to low carb. I’ve lost 16 pounds since January by enjoying Whole Foods❤️. Fruit is not evil! I finally can enjoy fruit again. My mood was horrible on super low carb/keto, messed up my cycle.
@@LadiesofPurposeTV oh wow, your comment so refreshing! Have you looked into the work of dr. Ray peat? Glucose really is the preferred fuel of the cell. The state of ketosis is a stressed State and is not healthy long-term.
Were you running while doing IF/Keto?
I lift weights 5x a week and keto is the only way of eating that is good for my mental health, mental clarity and better mood. I know the person in this interview eats carbs but I’d like to see an interview with someone who does keto cycling and lifts weights.
She’s no longer vegan!?
I really wish I could eat all meat but I have texture issues that make things very difficult as it makes me feel sick. Have only in the last few years been able to eat fish regularly. I do lift weights thought and have got my daughter into it, we have both lost fat and feel strong. And this training has helped her mentally through a tough time too. Lifting weights is a gift to your health 💪
Mike is such an amazing interviewer!! I really enjoy this program.
Find what works for you, great approach!

I heard few success stories from some hard core keto dieters. They were very short term in the end and gained weight back very quickly as soon as they discontinued it.
Potassium does balance out
Protein sources i normally consume are from - eggs, fish, legumes, nuts and grains- all of high quality and ethically resourced as much as possible.
When my sodium levels are too high, i just eat more potassium rich foods like avocadoes or sweet potatoes :)
Help?

I’m. It sure if you’ve done a video on this but I would love one with the doctor regarding women whom are peri menopausal and/or going through menopause. Especially, if you’ve been fit and want to remain so without loosing bone density, muscle mass , cognitive function and energy and libido.
I love her mentioning of cycle of life! Great info not just for ladies but guys (especially us older dudes) too!!
Great interview!
She is so pretty ❤️
Please discuss OXALATES I have oxalate poisoning from spinach) with sally k. Norton, MPH I think from Cornell
Raw spinach? should be cooked to reduce oxalates.
His shirt though. But true in every sense.
@@mjs28s thanks! I will probably always be more meat-heavy just cause I have longer-lasting energy but definitely would like to be able to eat more plants without looking pregnant
Please discuss mini bungee trampolines. I have one cuz i heard lots fantastic stuff about it.

thank you for this kind of interview. Very valuable information
There seems to be a bias against cardio by many of the paleo, keto, low carb camps. My guess is it is as important as weight lifting for being healthy, maybe more important. Studies seem to confirm this:
"The meta-analysis showed that, compared with no exercise, resistance training was associated with 21% (hazard ratio (95% confidence interval (CI)), 0.79 (0.69-0.91)) and 40% (hazard ratio (95% CI), 0.60 (0.49-0.72)) lower all-cause mortality alone and when combined with aerobic exercise, respectively"
See the article: The association of resistance training with mortality: A systematic review and meta-analysis, European Journal of Preventive Cardiology
Cardio really isn't important. We do HIIT. Cardio makes you lean. It doesn't sculpt. Weightlifting & diet burns more fat!
Women are obsessed with cardio as a way to burn calories. That's the problem. But muscle means you have a higher metabolism, it makes more sense.
@@nutech1810 My guess is that steady state has benefits that HIIT does not have and vice versa. Oddly enough, in one longevity study, playing tennis dramatically beat out lifting weights, and running in terms of longevity by about 7 - 8 years. See the article: Various Leisure-Time Physical Activities Associated With Widely Divergent Life Expectancies: The Copenhagen City Heart Study, Mayo Clinic Proceedings.
Better diet is the low hanging fruit that needs to be addressed before moving on to exercise as a luxury to get better health.
I was a vegan for 7 almost 8 years. Thought I was healthy thought it was good but my body didn't like it. I went eating meat, organ meats, bone broth, eggs, and that type of diet. Feeling better muscles are more dense. I have more energy!
I loved the moral of the story you shared about your daughter hiking. Me and my husband want to raise our babies in a similar fashion. I’d love if you shared tips and tricks (any knowledges) on raising health conscious kids to live a healthy lifestyle.
Great video!! Love everything y’all talked about
Another great episode Mike
Thanks
@@TheeJayMac0214 All I do is sprint as hard as I can for 6-8 seconds a couple of times, rest for a few days then do it again. Of course I old so I can't do it too much.
@@ClassicJukeboxBand hey it sounds good and you def have to listen to you body. Today is a rest day for me plus I’m on my cycle so I feel fatigued. I’ll prob pick back up tomorrow just lifting.
Lol Yes! Last year during the pandemic for about a month and a half I did intermittent fasting, eating between 12pm-8pm for the reason that it felt like the only thing I could control. When I stopped I had stomach issues, but I’m not sure if that could have been because I stopped abruptly.
it's all about lifting weights honestly. builds muscle, increases metabolism. obviously don't eat like shit but you can enjoy cheat days while still getting strong and looking fit
I lift some weights but as a rock climber I lift my own weight, over and over and it is more fun :)
What a great video! Thank you both!
Menopausal women need protein from meat to reverse osteoporosis along with resistance training...
Great interview as always, Mike!
You should, strong women live longer.
Wonderful episode, thank you.
TY!
Doctor thank you so much. as a man this did not apply directly to me but it does help me understand my lady better. you look very healthy and very beautiful.
Super interesting info thanks again :)
for any ladies that have to get used to their new bodies, posing like ancient statues of goddesses or muses in the mirror can help a lot!
Again: you just nail it everytime 💪🏼👍🏼
Tough love…..Let them find out the hard way

Mike, love your work. Really would like to get more information on peri-menopause. Nothing I used to do is working.
Fascinating conversation. Thank you. Do let us know about your antibodies. I am very curious as to how long the natural immunity lasts in healthy people. 🤔
Sure! Last time I tested was July, plan to retest here soon to see where they're at 10 months later.
Red meat would help, so would eliminating seed oils and sugar.
Check out low carb cardiologists Dr Aseem Malhotra & Dr Nadir Ali
@@stargazerbird saturated fat is not the problem. It’s the toxic seed oils (canola, soybean, sunflower, corn oil etc) and the excess carbs.

What was the name of the lab Mike mentioned at the very end? The lab that could test for antibodies.

Thank you for this!
Agree balance is important...
Meat consumption is often meat flavored with sauces from plants(tomato) or coating with grain products. I have a hunch eating plain meat with no seasoning it but salt would eventually get old.
Another great discussion Mike. You haven't had Deanna on in a long time. How is she?
